No one beats Tarja in my book as far as metal goes. She's not the best opera singer out there, but she's still amazing.

Because Nightwish popularized the usage of female driven opera in heavy, contemporary music. Many here might not admit it, but Nightwish is probably all they have in their repertoire to compare DSO to, even though DSO is not genre specific in the least. Just my $0.02

I like Floor as well, but I've never been crazy about her classical technique and I think her voice thins in it's upper register. But, with a doubt she has one of the most power belting techniques I've ever heard! It's almost scary.

Also, I know that Lori studied too, and that she is more experienced than Floor. Anyways, I guess it's just a matter of personal taste. You may prefer Lori's Classical technique, but still Floor's songs are much harder to sing and she has an incredible control over her voice, and a perfect vibrato. Well, I have to admit that Lori also has a perfect vibrato, though! :P

I think what most impressed me about Lori is Ginnungagap from Therion's Live Gothic, just because she shows off her high D sharp. And then, Aesma Daeva's cover of Mozarts D'Oreste which she shows great ability in her runs and in her staccato. I've always liked Floor, but I think After Forever is kind of boring. And, I like both of their vibrato, but Sandra from Elis and Dreams of Sanity has the best vibrato EVER! haha. :]

Oh, not really! Most of the professional Opera singers have better vibratos than any Classical singers. Sandra has an awesome voice, though! >3

Floor did study Opera, and with more training and practice she could be as perfect as Ellen Beach Yaw, Diana Damrau, Yma Sumac, Erna Sack, Joan Sutherland, Beverly Sills, etc. :)

I never found After Forever boring. Actually, they are my faves, along with Nightwish, Offertorium, and some other bands. They don't have bad songs! :D

Tarja is great when she belts out songs like "Poison" and "My Little Phoenix", but she doesn't have a good Classical technique in fact, because every time she uses it, she has a very false sound and she always has to fake her vibrato. Annlouice Loegdlund has to be the best Classical singer in a Metal band! Her technique and vibrato are just perfect, and she can EASILY sing Soprano! :)

I agree with this, except Tarja has a nice operatic mezzo-soprano range. In my opinion. She gets a lot of good sound down there. I also think Annlouice is good, but Lori Lewis has the best technique I've ever heard anyone in metal use.

Yes, and that's because she is a natural Mezzo. But she can sing Soprano now! She said herself that right now she is a Light Lyric Soprano! :)

Floor Jansen has the best techniques in fact. She studied both Opera and Classical singing! I wouldn't compare her to any other singers, though. She's not only a perfect Opera and Classical singer, she's also a perfect belter! :P

Annlouice's vibrato is a bit more natural than Lori's, but they are both amazing Classical singers! :D

Lori Lewis has also studied and has a glorious belting technique. She also has a masters degree in classical singing. Floor has only been studying for nine or ten years, Lori has loads more experience. And I admire Lori's mid and high range the most. She has a high D sharp to die for.

Also, Lori Lewis has a really wonderful belting technique. Listen to Since the Machine by Aesma Daeva, and make sure it's her singing not Mel. It's SOOOO wonderful

Yes, Lori has a good chest voice, but you can't really call belting what she did in ''Since The Machine''. It's just chest voice! Also, Floor has the most powerful voice and she can belt and sustain very high notes in pure chest voice. She can also sing in head voice E6, F6, and maybe higher. Lori's notes in chest voice are in the 3rd and 4th octave, while Floor can belt the 5th octave. Plus, Floor's head and mixed voices are stronger than Lori's.

I like Lori so much, but Floor is matchless!

I really love Diablo Swing Orchestra, but if you want to listen to an avant-garde metal band I'd suggest some Toby Driver, like maudlin of the Well or Kayo Dot (Especially Dowsing Anemone with Copper Tongue)
