  • Does anybody know why the big air instrument players do that side to side? Is it keeping a rhythm, showmanship, something else?

  • I love the brass, it sounds like the begining of a TV western like Pondarosa, I was a freshman in high school when this came out and everybody was shakin theit booties when the ban covered this little number.

  • This is great great music. I loved the single as a kid, in fact I had the 45. This is much much better jams!

  • @bassbob42 as long as you're not jumping on top of a pool table in the middle of a metro Dade county Florida nightclub and almost getting shot ...

  • Someone forgot to take his Midol...

  • I FUCKING LIVE FOR HEAVY METAL, BUT 60,S MUSIC IS FUCKING EXCELLENT

  • This was the music I grew up with!!!!!

  • @mweezy - Musicians get tired of singing the exact same over and over - they ab-lib. I don't blame them..... I'd go crazy concert after concert singing things like the studio version. I've heard several artists explain it before in there own words. As Eric Burdon said: "If you don't like it - go buy the record".

Great post by the way ---> I love Arthur Conley.

  • This is a great performance of a great tune!...and about the audience: they look a lot better than the shit-bag dancing by those wonderbreads that opened up the Winter Olympics!

  • now that's how you walk out of a show

ps: hate the bored white people in the front seats, damn fuckers

  • @efsq FUCK YOU CUNT, IM WHITE AND FUCKING PROUD OF IT TOO, PERSONALLY I THINK THIS SONG IS FUCKING EXCELLENT AND IF I WAS ALIVE BACK THEN, AND WAS THERE IN THAT CROWD I,D BE ROCKING THE FUCK OUT MORE THAN ANY CUNT THERE, INCLUDING ALL THE BLACKS PUT TOGETHER. SO FUCK YOU, YOU "DAMN FUCKER"

  • @efsq HEY friend easy with the white people shit, yes they do look brain dead with as much rythm as a pool cue but dont bring the WHITE thing in man we are all BLUES BROTHERS PEACE MY MAN

  • @smithdvr

it's just a joke man, I'm also white

  • @smithdvr I think I love you

  • damn he's singing just like in the record it sounds so good

  • Yeah, oh yeah!

  • This F##king song rocks...i am doing a gig this month and will tear the shit out of it...love live soul Music !!!!!

  • I heard this somewhere and could not get this out of my head. Sounds so good. I like sweet soul music!!!

  • Look at that audience they look like they came from a funeral, if I am not mistake they are German which is typical for German audiences. They should have been playing marching music then they would have been up on their feet goose stepping. This is the only type of music they are capable of clapping too. Authur you were great, unfortunately the audience was the personificatin of boredom. RIP brother, you really had the feeling.

  • @smokeyvelvet42 love it!!!

  • Nuffin german about it.

They are simply (lol) white and they were the times, sadly!

    Brilliant studio performance.

At 3mins in, is that no a moon walk?

    I'd reckon!

  • No moonwalk, but those are definitely James Brown movements. All the artist at that time were influenced by James Brown. With respect to a white audience you could very well be right.

  • i like this song a lot, not much 16 year olds say that now do they?

  • That guy was something else, BRILLIANT.

  • this is a great fucking song!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @paulnhbtx Yes, the song is GREAT, but is not fucking...

  • Is this part of the Sam and Dave concert in Germany? Great post!

  • He really feels the music and I just adore the way he moves cool bloke.

  • love that dude. Great song

  • take me right back to 66 haha

  • amazing song! you saved this fucking day!

  • Doesn't get any better from the 60's, brings back memories.

  • Terrific version!!! Arthur Conley was great.

and OTIS was the KING!!!!!!!!! :)

(so this song came from sam Cooke's "Yeah Man...)

  • OTIS REDDING GOT THE FEELIN'!!

  • Spotlight on James Brown, ya'll

He`s the king of them all, ya'll

He`s the king of 'em all, ya'll

    Oh yeah

    Oh-oh yeah..

  • Ich mag den Song! Da ist echt Party Time! Kenne ich noch als kleines Kind als meine Eltern das immer gehört haben. Die kleine LP bewahre ich gut auf - wird bestimmt mal was Wert sein :)

  • arthur ist spitze... nahezu fabulös

  • Man, Arthur works so hard and they give so little!

  • Arthur is so supi toll

  • Knowing that you always encouraged young people, Arthur, I am happy that so many young people love you!

  • Yeah, ive known the man personally before he died, through my uncle who is in the music business here in the netherlands. Even though i was only 13 when he died i remember having a lot of good laughs with him. A really great man and i miss him, but his funeral was amazing. RIP Lee ( he changed his name later in his life) / Arthur

  • I think you need to shut up mate...

  • Aws? Automatic Warning System? ...What?

  • Well you haven't actually met me, so how about you stop poluting this video's comments with your shite, learn how to type and appreciate the music, and if you don't like the music, piss off!

  • Arthur is soooo cool!!!

  • ***** WOW Man

  • Spotlight on Wilson Pickett now...WhAAAAA!

  • My mother used to call those tight pants that men wore in the sixties: "pistol legged pants"....she must have looked, she has eight kids. lol

  • Think it's in Offenbach (germany, that's where I come from), 1967 (two years before my birthday) ! ! !

It's the SAM & DAVE SHOW, Aristokleth (or so) put the whole show on yt.

One of the best shows I've ever seen ! !

  • awesome tune!!

  • i dont think there are an live act like this any more the coriography the music the pure and true enthusiasm of a man singing for his soul not his wallet

  • Viewing Arthur Conley in his younger years, as in this video makes me wish that the hands of time could really be turned back. i would love to have met Arthur. Arthur was 11 years older than me at the time of this video. He had moved to the Netherlands, a beautiful county in his early 30's. I was in my early twenties. He was such a handsome man. I cannot believe that I long, and am slightly disturbed that I had no chance of meeting him. He was deceased when I discovered him in 2008, on Youtube.

  • I Love this guy. It just sad that this song was credit to Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave and even Sam Cooke..

  • @RobertEarl20 The reason why it is credited to Sam Cooke is because "Sweet Soul Music" is based on Sam Cooke's song, "Yeah Man", so I think Mr. Cooke is well deserving of being credited. I heard Mr. Conley denied that he got it from Sam Cooke's song but later admitted that he did. It is a great song though, he changed the lyrics around a bit but it's pretty obvious he copied from "Yeah Man".

  • oooooooooooooooooooooh Yes !

    couuume ça !

    THAT is Rythm !

    A bibi ousghouy !

  • wow, i love the enthusiasm! Arthur's giving it all he's got! :) and i love the band choreography!

The audience is kinda still though! ha ha!

  • Totally Awesome I love it. That was always a great song. This is a great live version of it. Thank's for posting this

  • The horns are playing some wrong notes. I remember this song and these were NOT the inversions that were supposed to be played. Kill the arranger.

  • It's live..................musicians fuckup when they're playing live all the time, I don't know why!

  • That's true for any live band, EXCEPT James Brown's Famous Flames. From what I hear, if anyone played a bad note, he'd turn around and point at him, and no-one ever got pointed at twice.

  • @rickiedog nobody fucked up in Buddy Rich's band and lived to tell the tale.

  • @rickiedog He would also not pay them for the whole month! There is a recording of The Grunt (live), and you can hear the brass section playing wrong, and then you can hear them getting afraid; the miss a cue right after. The quickly begin playing again though, and carry on with the same energy.

  • @rickiedog James Brown used to dock his musicians' pay if they made a mistake. It wasn't just a bad look or a pointing at.

  • Great track, ive always loved this song!

  • Fantastic!!!!

  • Then it was all about the music. :-) Love the power of this song

Now it's just about he money. "You can't dance, you can't sing, but you look good" :-(

  • Yes, it´s a great shame that black people of today don´t sing but just rap. Great waste of talent.

  • you're nuts. the best singers of today are still black...

  • Sorry but that is bulshit

  • That's very stereotyped. A great performer, is a great performer. Regardless of race.

  • Magnus6207, it's not just about blacks. Everybody is sucking these days (regardless of race).

  • come on man thats nonsense. if u listen to jazz, reggae, rnb or blues. thats not rap. its just mainstream shit where its limited to rap. go underground and u will see.

  • He and a lot other Soul singers of that time were in fact AHEAD of their time with music that stired the soul... its no wonder soul music got its name because the roots of singers influeance came from baptist churches. In baptist church's you got up and you "Got the feeling" (in black churches anyway)

40 years ago young white kids (Mostly in Europe I think) liked what they heard but didn't know how to get with it.., that why the audiance looks stiff.. but you can see they were loving it.

  • I will FOREVER love this song. it always cheers me up. love it. what an amazing performer he was.

  • 4 decades on and it still rocks...gr8 track!

shame the audience were so stiff... (:

    TFP!

  • One of the best live performances i have ever seen....wish i was in the crowd watching that....would have been jumping around like mad lol! Brilliant!

  • Now that is music! Not this rap bullshit we have today.

  • LIVE

  • im 23. so this was way before my time, nut i get friggin goosebumps of this vid!

i luv it great great song!!!

  • favorite song!! Thanks for uploading this live version! Truly an unsung soul talent.

  • I'm Dutch aswell, and can tell U all one thing,I wasnt born in those days, but if there is somethin Called Music, then its this, same goes for Sam Cooke,Sam and Dave,Otis redding, and if i see the Audience it hurts me,i know that back in that day the Movement from the "whites" was pretty much nihil, but if i hear this it makes me wanna JUMP and do all kinds of crazy stuff ;-)

  • hi

am a dutchmen and i love him allot.

pitty he stop with making records like that .

and he runn away to the netherlands and live there in lonlyness .

last year he died i wil always love his song sweet soul music.

    rest in peace .

  • Wow!

  • WOW is so RIGHT! He will always be incredible!!!

  • Wow! More people need to know about Arthur, thanks for sharing him. It's funny to see how reserved the crowd was back then.

  • aaaaaaaaaaahhhhh YEAH BOY that did it for me

  • haha bad man

  • Arthur Conley. Unsung hero of soul music, what a shame. Fantastic voice and rhythm!
