I adore this song. Although I must say I'm a little bugged by people complaining about how they were better in the past - personally I just think they've evolved further with each album.
@WhiteStarCyanide Good question. I always like thought provoking questions. Believe it or not, only a few yrs. ago, when I was in college actually. Come to think of it, I can't really recall how I find out about the band. Even though I respect Marilyn Manson's opinions, his music did not strike me as original, esp. after he kicked Twiggy out for doing drugs when Brian did too;now he's in APC, a better group IMHO. I was looking for something different yet original, & I found it.Beats/keys !!
@Thesagga Okay "my bad" I didnt know. I just saw a good opprotunity here to be a smart ass dickhead like everybody else here on youtube. Very very sorry about that haha.
It's because the record label they were on at the time wanted a more accessible Ministry / NIN guitar heavy sound and the band were really reluctant to follow suit.
I've heard that rumor too...I'd be tempted to call The Process a classic example of "art from adversity" if it's true. The Process is a _great_ album. Not their best or second best....but I'd be very comfortable putting it in 3rd or 4th place.
Pushed by the record label or not, they managed to produce one of the best (and imho, THE best) industrial rock/metal albums of all time.
Cool video, always liked this one. Not particularly crazy about the song compared to the others on the album. Great album though, incredible and Cellar Heat is such a dark and saddening cry out at the what-was-thought-to-be end of SP.
For those uninitiated, try getting Vivisectvi or Cleanse Fold And Manipulate, best bets for starters(hmm well who the hell really knows, it depends...) Also look for other projects: Download, The Tear Garden, Plateau, Ohgr.
I think the starter album I used to really get into it, well, I think it was Too Dark Park. Actually, I was raised on Skinny Puppy, as my father found it when he was a teen, but before he was a teen father, and I think Too Dark park was his first album. Put it in his walkman, took it out to check to see if it was okay, put it back in, decided it was like nothing he'd ever heard and that he loved it
I know, my brother had it on cassete shortly after it came out, I remember it being a sort of dedication album..I have searched a lot of places, and nothing...damn! I really want this album.
sometimes I wonder how many women they have on their myspace accounts? Dam and all leave comments on their boards, hoping that something will come out of it one day, but if you wanna really get with them, give them some heroine.
Firstly Fifiinzahead, NOT cool. Secondly if you knew anything about Nivek in particular, you'd know he cleaned his life up years ago.
I have met them many times & it was a surprise to me that Dwayne died that way because he was not a herione user when i knew him.If you want to blame someone for something , look to Al Jorgenson.
das ich is as close to skinny puppy as it is appropriate to get. their song der schrei is an unabashed anus-tounging of the kevins. wumpscut is pretty close, but it's a bit too oedipal and nerdy for me to get really involved.
Well apart from Das Ich's faithful emulation of the SP sound, in case this wasn't enough to get the point across, the song "Der Schrei" begins with "bin ein magerer Koeter, willst mein Bruder sein.", "magerer Koeter" translates to "meager mutt", or "skinny puppy" even.
Flattery, like a rim job, is sometimes recieved graciously, sometimes awkwardly, not always necessarily good or bad, but I personally feel that das Ich's body of work does justice in to whatever it is that SP has started.
Download's "The Eyes of Stanley Pain" & Doubting Thomas' "The Infidel" sound close (usurprisingly, given their members). Das Ich has been mentioned; the Stigma EP is my fav, though it reminds me more of Pretty Hate Machine than SP (not that that precludes an SP influence, exactly). For a less symphonic gothic sound, try Placebo Effect's semi-demi successor Breathe (check out the-laughing-dolls . com; I recommend Dopamin & Fading Colors). Finally, Portion Control were a huge influence *on* SP.
WTF!!??! fucking youtube i cant listen this in playlist.... fuckers

I have an question for all of you Skinny Puppy fans:
What age did you start to listen to SP?
'Cause I listened to them since I was 13, and 2 years later, I still love them. :D
WhiteStarCyanide 2 years ago
i first found them and throbbing gristle at around age 15 or so in a bargain bin at a used record shop in my city.
Word was in the magazines that this was super hardcore unlistenable garbage and so i skipped it like it was dirty laundry
now it is my easy listening music
probably heard it at age 29, and have kept listening ever since, buying virtually everything available.
The music i liked previous to being a real goth was almost all made by fans of skinny puppy and bauhaus , etc.

Awesome but rather "different" for Skinny Puppy; thats a pretty metalic riff.
