Those trains can drive up to 150mph, 240km/h. In Europe (the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and Spain) we have seperate tracks, this goes even faster, our high speed trains are able to drive up to 215mph because we have seperate tracks.
So @toontownaddict Just build a new track, only for high speed trains. This will make traveling twice as fast.
The US rail system is a first class freight network and a last place passenger network. The only problem with building highspeed rail is it will effect the US freight system and is very costly. The US freight system is easily the largest and busiest in the world but it is already stretched to its max in many ways which must be taken into account when building hih speed rail.
I think the Acela and rail travel is great but its too expensive. Most of the time its cheaper to fly. I'd rather use rail to go on a trip say from Boston to Washington DC but the price doesn't give you much incentive to use rail.
@P40BH electric is more relavant than diesel because most high speed train runs on electric because its lightweight, every passenger cars has motor that drives all the wheels, and there friendly envoroment,
@coashddjj2 its coming soon to the Wester U.s., we got the California high speed train starting the construction on 2012, we got the Desert Xpress high speed starting on the construction somethime before the end of this year, and these train will be faster and better than the Amtrak Acela.
Im proud to say im remodeling acela thru 2010 all 20 of them. Im hired by Bombardier who build acela & sold to amtrak..we finsih 7 train so far Im electrician/technician. I help built the galley & LVPS wiring & everything u can think except powers cars. well i did the battery sensor wiring.lol awesome job
@MISSEDHERSIR Completely agreed I lived the netherlands and the rail systems are perfect, but it was even better going into Germany, if you like riding trains you will love it there. The fares are lot less, and the systems are more widely connected than those here.
That is so cool! I rode on one in 2005 and its number was 2252! I took it from MET to NYC then took an NJT back. I also had a 5-car Acela trainset a few years back, before it fell apart due to rust and corrosion. -sniff- It was the best.
acela rocks! hop on and it gets you there in no time. I have to take it from baltimore- boston and\vise versa. good quality service, fast train, why fly?

@rudy27rudy Remodel the ticket price so people will take the trains instead
of driving. Like in Europe. I should send this to the Amtrak management
I know. I lived in Europe and Japan and got spoiled I guess. Nice job
you've done on the trains my friend, they are sweet.

@Baron2yahoo yes, WE NEED TO CONVINCE OUR COUNTRY TO STEP IT UP.
Henry Ford is to blame, moreover, when the highways were built up in the 60s-70s
nobody thought about int rail system, because it was once again, about the car.
Hind site is 20/20

Why can't Canada get something like this?
sega31098 2 years ago
We should have it considering it's built (or at least developed) 75% by Bombardier in Montreal
Bombardier is also the worlds largest train manufacturer yet trains in Canada suck.
PMeursault 2 years ago 2
Really? Montreal Metro trains are super high quality, even after more than 50 years.
They should extend Acela to Montreal and Toronto, and mabye a Golden Horseshoe Acela like train.
