F 18 drogs in om jaktförband i den s.k. Stockholmskarusellen 1974 tillsammans med F 8 Barkarby och F 2 Hägernäs. F 16 Uppsala och F1 Västerås övertog Stockholms luftförsvar efter 1974. Från 1983 hade F 16 ensamt hand om Stockholms luftförsvar fram till F 18:s definitiva nedläggning som skolförband 30:e juni 1985, två år efter F 1 Västerås. F 1 och F 16 hade en division baserad på F 18 Tullinge.

Yeah Saab Draken! Awesome plane! We had Draken in Denmark for many years, i remember that it made a hell of a noise but looked cool and flew good as well. My uncle was a draken mechanic on the f-35XD at Karup airbase. I wish that the danish airforce would buy the new Saab jet instead of the JSF from US.

No I did'nt make the video. It is made by the staff at the since 20 years decomissioned AFB, F18.

Im really not that interested in the Draken, it's just a beautiful fighter. One of many top notch creations come out of SAAB Aero

:) If you are not a SwAF pilot the only way is to whine and nag till the staff at the supply store yield. And to get access there you need to be contracted (conscript/home guard/CO).

Move to Sweden, apply for citizenship. Contact the National Service Administration and apply for military service at one of the SwAF wings. You will probably have like 1% chance to be recruited. If you get in, you may find out that the m/55 have been phased out and can no longer be found in store.

Ok ,I see. As far as I know, the m/55 has never been sold to the public, and it is not in use by the air force any more. Tests showed that the leather shrinked when exposed to fire, and thus not offering any fire protection. Thats why the m/80 was introduced, wich is made of Nomex.

There might be quite a lot of them in storage at the wings, but they are only available to contracted personel.

It's probably standard J35 Draken issue flying gloves, made for the SwAF. If they are issued it should be either Flyghandske m/55 or m/80. My guess would be m/55.

As the description says the base is F18 Tullinge wich was a base in the stockholm-area, its now closed since many years. I Guess the squadron was either callsign Adam-gul(yellow) or Adam-röd(red) which apparently was the two last squadron at F18.
