You all are so lucky to have lived and worked during the heyday of this country. While our social fabric was still somewhat intact, when finding a job wasn't impossible, when Americans were still proud to be Americans and intelligent. You all are blessed, unlike my generation. May history remember this country for what it was, not what it is and will become.
Democrats winning in government is like a monkey driving a car: no one knows how it got it, it cant use it properly, but try taking it away and they will fight to the end ! watch my vids
@QuizGuy66 True, but in all three of those states it was pretty close. VA and NC especially are really red states...they only slightly went for Obama because Bush and the Republicans fucked up so bad, the environment was so toxic for an R to pull off the '04 map again. Even Howard Dean admits Obama is going to have a really hard time in 2012 winning those traditionally solid red states again. And FL is still GOP-leaning; currently has a GOP governor+state legis+19-6 majority House delegation
"that the Democratic party has to start to move in the same direction that the voters are moving in". "I think we've seen with regard to running on a program of increased taxes,,,,,"
Enough of the race! I had hoped that 9/11 taught us that we are ALL AMERICANS, but it seems that people have forgotten that. I wish that people had opened their eyes and taken a good look at what Obama was rather than the color of his skin. Sure, it's great to say that we now have a black president, but the price is a bit too high to pay.
I'm Sorry but that statement you made is wrong ! I'm African American and I come from a upper middle class family and the reason why we don't vote republican is because of their anti-immigrant anti-minority language especially during elections to energize their base. The comment you made is also racist because you assume that all minorities are poor when that is not the case. And the republican party gives out handouts as well but their handouts go to their corporate backers, special interests.
What antiminority language? The fact that we oppose ILLEGAL immigration? I'm republican and I have no problems with race. We're not alll racists, despite what CBS and NBC will tell you. Besides, I thought it was the Democratic South that wanted to keep slavery legal and the Republican president that set the slaves free. Oh wait, no that was a Democrat, the Republicans are evil and would never do sucj a thing. Give me a break
Also if you look at trickle down economic theory the whole premise is re-distribution of wealth to the top bracket income earners in this country. The average american household makes 50,000 dollars a year so the majority of americans are basically getting pennies from trickle down tax cuts in comparison to the top 5 percent of the country. Also though I like Reagan personally he grew the debt to the highest levels in America's history, and he grew the size of government just like Bush.
Also Reagan raised taxes on the middle class a number of times including the payroll tax in his first term and second. And he had to raise taxes because of his big tax cut plan and all the spending he approved, and for social security. If you don't believe me you can check government stats during the 80's. Reagan was a nice guy but this myth that he reduced the size of the debt and government and not giving handouts(he actually gave handouts to corporate entities and other entities) is a farce.
@jziglar I guess you shut Thefaketaco87 up. He makes an error when he compares the Republican Party of 2010 to the 1960 version. The Dixiecrats left the Democrats for the GOP due to increasing focus on civil rights by the party.
@jziglar As a former black liberal turned conservative; I was too young at the time but have studied history and politics..You are correct about Reagan raising taxes(FICA) during his term but he never raised Income taxes...the debt is explode under his two terms but you must remember Congress is in control of spending(lets be honest) so Democrats exploded the debt during the two terms under Reagan. Welfare programs did increase, so liberals could never say again Reagan starved poor people.
Its funny to see them talking about how surprising, young and new Mitch McConnell is here, now that he's a senior, well-known name in Washington, and of course the minority leader in the Senate.
@mchpm13 I don't think we will have any problem in 2012. Clinton was a moderate President who worked well with a Republican Congress, plus he had Perot. Obama is just too far left for this country and people are now waking up and seeing that(although they should of seen that in 2008, but they got too caught up in Obama mania).

And, for the record, I never incorporated the word "worthy" into any part of my commentary.
Nearly came back from a 33 point Deficit after the Democratic Convention to win. I am digressing from my initial point. Reagan was a great speaker. I think he had a great personality. I think he was a good President. But the greatest President of the 20th Century? I just don't agree with that.
I just think he gets a bit too much credit. But don't get me wrong, I admire him. The guy who I feel gets no credit is Nixon. Nixon laid the Electoral Landscape that helped pave the Republican Majority for a Generation. Jimmy Carter was an abberation. He was a Southerner who, only had to utter Watergate in every speech to win, and he nearly blew it in that scenario! Ford, who was an extremely honorable man who unfairly was tarnished by Watergate and the Economy
I never said I thought Reagan was a bad President. He had great qualities. I admire Reagan. But I greatly admire Barack Obama. I was responding to your telling me not to compare the two. That Barack isn't "worthy". You started this debate.
My friend, you can't eat your cake and have it too...
If, in your opinion, Obama's so "Reaganesque," why don't you deem Reagan a great -- seeing as you think Obama's the "most [morally] decent [President] since Ford," and "has the potential to be a better leader than...Reagan[?]"
"Not only do I have the right to compare Obama to who I want to, I even say he has the potential to be a better leader than Mr. Reagan. Morally, Obama is a decent man, and the most decent we've had in there since Ford. Reagan was a good, but not great President."
Mike: Are you as wayward as the wind? (You go from likening Obama to Reagan; then, have a change of heart, taking swipes at Reagan's character and authoritative competence -- two entirely different issues, I might add.)
Okay well according to your words we should judge the Obama Administration in 2012, not 7 weeks in. And about FDR, the UnEmployment Rate was 25 percent when he came in, and by 1938 stood at 15 percent. That sounds like Improvement to me. And the American People thought so to. He won 60.8 percent to 36.5 percent in the Popular vote and 523 to 8 in the Electoral College.
If Obama's so smart, why can't he correct our colossal federal deficit w/o spending more of American taxpayers' money. Furthermore, how in the h*ll do you know Obama has an IQ of 166?
Let's take it a step further, Mike: Num nut Carter boasted the highest IQ of any President up to Bush 43 (according to your claim), but look how well his alleged raw intelligence served him...
and increase the scope of our Presidential scrutiny to include FDR. Mind you: FDR was one of the first to openly carry on with other women while married, e.g. his extramarital relationships with Lucy Mercer and M.A. LeHand. (No doubt, FDR enjoyed much more sidebar action than the media and press let on.)
000 reported cases in '88 (Reagan's last year in office). The Reagan Administration ordered more money ($6 billion) for AIDS research than any other disease -- even diabetes, which reportedly affected nearly double the population diagnosed with AIDS...
3rd: Just because Reagan kicked off his '80 campaign in the Deep South, Reagan neither inevitably condoned nor supported racism.
MIKESOWELL: If your intention is to dredge up all the skeletons from Reagan's past, let's be nonpartisan...
MIKESOWELL's a warped sense of reality, my friends...
Let's set the record straight:
FDR's policies never worked; i.e., the Treasury was never able to compensate for what money it furiously spent from '33 on. Not only were FDR's public spending projects a complete failure, but for the 7/+ years following implementation of Roosevelt's 1st New Deal, the unemployment rate was over 20%...
MIKESOWELL: As for your harebrained notion that AIDS research was underfunded, there were an upwards of 32,
Reagan also covertly and at times openly courted racists for votes using rhetoric that played on many Southerner's resentments of the Civil Rights Movement. Do you remember the Vicksburg, Mississippi Rally?
Nawlnz84 Whether you believe FDR was a Socialist or not, his policies worked. How was FDR an Opportunist? How is a man with a 166 IQ a "Bubblehead"? Reagan went too much on his "gut". He never analyzed anything. Reagan would be disasterous now. And as far as Reagan having a "heart of gold" tell that to the early AIDS victims. He didn't even acknowlege the disease until his friend Rock Hudson died in October 1985, 6 years after the disease was first reported. He could have helped contain it.
(a backward-looking policy, when you reflect on the country's current economic crisis.) Obama's clearly got America's priorities mixed up, cf. the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act...Are you friggin' kidding me -- the President can think of no better law to pass when the U.S. is posting upwards of a $10 trillion federal deficit?
Obama was an opportunist like FDR, who instituted shameful, socialist federal programs in this evidently ignorant nation-state. Socialism is, once again, rearing its ugly head under the auspices of a reckless and vacillating Obama administration...
No, "MIKESOWELL." I believe Reagan had a heart of gold, always taking a keen interest in, and having a soft spot for the working, middle class -- unlike bubbleheaded Obama, who's caught up in redressing past inequities...
Gopconservative78 who said anything about him being black? We don't need that pointed out that's obvious. What does your comment mean? That being black lowers you in your abilities? I'm not following you.
Not only do I have the right to compare Obama to who I want to, I even say he has the potential to be a better leader than Mr. Reagan. Morally, Obama is a decent man, and the most decent we've had in there since Ford. Reagan was a good, but not great President.
"MIKESOWELL": You've no moral right to hold Pres. Obama in comparison with the late and great Ronald Reagan. The simple truth is that Pres. Obama couldn't hold a candle to Reagan. (It's disgraceful to put Pres. Obama in the same sentence with Ronnie...Obama can't be held to the same standard of caliber and integrity as was Reagan.)
morally Reagan wasn't so perfect he was against the civil rights acts of 1964 saying he was for "states rights" For the majority of the country Reagan was a leader and 1 they could trust but to people of color he didn't care about the struggles they had to endure

Obama is NOTHING like Carter, if anything he is Reaganesque. Bush is more of a Ford/Carter hybrid a disaster that has just 30 days to cause further damage.
I wish I could remember this I was 3 at the time but man it is hilarious watching Peter Jennings, David Brinkley, Bert Lance (D) Georgia just depressed out of their minds. BTW Obama's "landslide" dwarfs to this moment in history. Also Obama is another Carter so this can mean we will have another Reagan *cough* Palin/Jindal 2012 *cough*
Yes, then when the Palin/Jindal ticket takes effect, we can hear the GOP make rumors about how their own VP candidate looks like an Arab and has supported war criminals (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Condi, etc.)
This election night was so hilarious apparantly. All the Eastern seaboard states were projected for Reagan within about an hour after the polls closed. So they called the election for Reagan before the Middle state polls even closed. Everyone went to bed at about 9... Mind you yesterday was pretty quick too. Hurrah!
Gotta love the mainstream media.. all those long faces whenever a Republican wins, and Peter Jennings, with his transparent attempt to drive up Democrat turnout by mentioning liberal ballot initiatives.. right there on the air, during election night!
New Hampshire for Reagan: Yeah!! Vermont for Reagan: Yeah!! Virginia for Reagan: Yeah!! Kentucky for Reagan: Yeah!! Indianna for Reagan: Yeah!! Ohio for Reagan: Yeah!! North Carolina for Reagan: Yeah!! South Carolina for Reagan: Yeah!! Georgia for Reagan: Yeah!! Florida for Reagan: Yeah!! Alabama for Reagan: Yeah!! Mississippi for Reagan: Yeah!!
Osmobm01, you're not familiar with sarcasm and satire, are you? He obviously is poking fun at the people who you mistake him as being. Read the ending of his comments. Why the hell would he call himself a dummycrat? Lol, the world is filled with high IQ idiots!
Dude you are such a conspiratory moron. Just because you wanted Democrates to win doesn't mean they had the right to. I've studied political science and I recognize you as a dogmatistic ignorant who cannot and/or will not recognize the validity of different opinions other than your own. This country is larger than just two parties. You are asserting that 49 states were corrupt rather than looking at the faults of your own party Your inabilty to recognize this demonstrates your true ignorance.
The 1984 election was stolen. The voting machines in 49 states were broken. Old people couldn't punch holes in their ballots because Reagan took their food away and they were malnourished. Democratic voters could not make it to the polls because they did not have time to cash their welfare checks. I demand a recount! Im a liberal Barack Husseion Obama Bin Laden supporting dummycrat and I demand a recount!
No, he's infinitely more damaging; a devout Liberal American.
If you had Obama's circle of Chicago fiends as comrades, you couldn't get the security clearance necessary even to scrub toilets at a top secret facility.
No wonder he's beloved by dictators, Islamists, Democrats, and other enemies of America. They call it "vetted".
It's good to know that in the middle of a crisis, the Democrats are still liars. As long as we're fantasizing about "alternative" energy sources, what we really need is a car that runs on Democrats' lies.
Yeah, it's notable that Old Media was openly demoralized that "their" party was losing (in a landslide). And the explanations given by their "leaders" are HILARIOUS.
That's what happens when the Republican Party runs an actual Conservative, instead of a R.I.N.O.. Too bad they haven't learned anything -- choosing instead to listen to the advice of Old Media.
Brace up for President Hussein and his gospel of racism, thermal armageddon, and class warfare.
Dems in 2008 will win the house and senate and gain on their majority. McCain will win the Presidency. Obama has no business running for President. If Obama v McCain is a close one, its because the Repubs are a bunch of cowards.
I don't think mainstream Republicans are to be blamed for cowardice. I'm finding more and more that there's a certain charmless megalomania amongst Rep. Party leadership. They've been telling the grassroots types that we don't know anything about anything and that they'll do whatever they like.
Their candidate is getting trounced and the response is, "The voters aren't deciding the outcome." ROTFL, the loser lib playbook never changes! If it wasn't such a bad political climate for Republicans right now, McCain would beat Obama the same way. As a result, McCain will probably only end up winning by a 4 to 6 point margin.
LOL ! After getting trounced in elections the Democrats were always trying to figure out "how to get their message out" - what they didn't understand was they WERE getting their message out - nobody wanted to hear it.
Reagon was the BEST ! look at that election LANDSLIDE the GOP gets REAL LEADERS unlike Dem leaders who only win half the states ever. The Gop Will get this landslide again when a true lib/ like obama or hilery gets in.Remember it took a carter to get a reagon.

A fifty state sweep would have been even more beautiful. I also agree that America proudly more conservative and Republican. Democrats and liberals do deserve any political office whatsoever. Reagan loved his country, kept us safe for eight years, strenghtened our economy, helped troubled youth, and so much more. I think he was the best president we ever had, don't you?
We actually had a President who LOVED his country. Now we have one that hates his country, calling it racist, apologizibg for our so called crimes (Holding terrorists in gitmo.).
I miss Peter myself. We keep losing important people in a day and age that is increasing in the number of liberals and those who don't care about the better things of the past.
Jennings and Brinkley didn't have much chemistry together, did they? Brinkley's laid-back style makes Jennings seem almost harried in comparison.
At the very beginning of the clip, Brinkley twiddles his thumbs impatiently while Jennings talks and the exchange (or lack thereof) near the 05:00 mark is just plain uncomfortable.
Today's Democratic Party moves in a different direction than does the taxpayer, but can win because of the votes of the non tax payer.

If, in your opinion, Obama's so "Reaganesque," why don't you deem Reagan a great -- seeing as you think Obama's the "most [morally] decent [President] since Ford," and "has the potential to be a better leader than...Reagan[?]"

Mike: Are you as wayward as the wind? (You go from likening Obama to Reagan; then, have a change of heart, taking swipes at Reagan's character and authoritative competence -- two entirely different issues, I might add.)

2 months ago, "MIKESOWELL" asserted that Obama was nothing like Carter -- that if anything, Obama was more "Reaganesque."

I think how nobly a President deals with the nation's issues, especially the most pressing ones, should determine his/her caliber, don't y'all?
nawlnz84 3 years ago
If Obama's so smart, why can't he correct our colossal federal deficit w/o spending more of American taxpayers' money. Furthermore, how in the h*ll do you know Obama has an IQ of 166?
Let's take it a step further, Mike: Num nut Carter boasted the highest IQ of any President up to Bush 43 (according to your claim), but look how well his alleged raw intelligence served him...
nawlnz84 3 years ago
and increase the scope of our Presidential scrutiny to include FDR. Mind you: FDR was one of the first to openly carry on with other women while married, e.g. his extramarital relationships with Lucy Mercer and M.A. LeHand. (No doubt, FDR enjoyed much more sidebar action than the media and press let on.)
FDR was true to form, wouldn't you say, Mike?

000 reported cases in '88 (Reagan's last year in office). The Reagan Administration ordered more money ($6 billion) for AIDS research than any other disease -- even diabetes, which reportedly affected nearly double the population diagnosed with AIDS...
3rd: Just because Reagan kicked off his '80 campaign in the Deep South, Reagan neither inevitably condoned nor supported racism.
MIKESOWELL: If your intention is to dredge up all the skeletons from Reagan's past, let's be nonpartisan...
nawlnz84 3 years ago

MIKESOWELL 3 years ago
Nawlnz84 Whether you believe FDR was a Socialist or not, his policies worked. How was FDR an Opportunist? How is a man with a 166 IQ a "Bubblehead"? Reagan went too much on his "gut". He never analyzed anything. Reagan would be disasterous now. And as far as Reagan having a "heart of gold" tell that to the early AIDS victims. He didn't even acknowlege the disease until his friend Rock Hudson died in October 1985, 6 years after the disease was first reported. He could have helped contain it.
MIKESOWELL 3 years ago
(a backward-looking policy, when you reflect on the country's current economic crisis.) Obama's clearly got America's priorities mixed up, cf. the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act...Are you friggin' kidding me -- the President can think of no better law to pass when the U.S. is posting upwards of a $10 trillion federal deficit?
Reagan will best B.O. any day!
nawlnz84 3 years ago
Obama was an opportunist like FDR, who instituted shameful, socialist federal programs in this evidently ignorant nation-state. Socialism is, once again, rearing its ugly head under the auspices of a reckless and vacillating Obama administration...
No, "MIKESOWELL." I believe Reagan had a heart of gold, always taking a keen interest in, and having a soft spot for the working, middle class -- unlike bubbleheaded Obama, who's caught up in redressing past inequities...

President Reagan is, was, and will be the best (period).
And you're right, "jrc99us." Obama's victory pales in comparison to that of Reagan.
nawlnz84 3 years ago
"MIKESOWELL": You've no moral right to hold Pres. Obama in comparison with the late and great Ronald Reagan. The simple truth is that Pres. Obama couldn't hold a candle to Reagan. (It's disgraceful to put Pres. Obama in the same sentence with Ronnie...Obama can't be held to the same standard of caliber and integrity as was Reagan.)
nawlnz84 3 years ago
morally Reagan wasn't so perfect he was against the civil rights acts of 1964 saying he was for "states rights" For the majority of the country Reagan was a leader and 1 they could trust but to people of color he didn't care about the struggles they had to endure

Yes, then when the Palin/Jindal ticket takes effect, we can hear the GOP make rumors about how their own VP candidate looks like an Arab and has supported war criminals (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Condi, etc.)

So they called the election for Reagan before the Middle state polls even closed. Everyone went to bed at about 9... Mind you yesterday was pretty quick too. Hurrah!

I've studied political science and I recognize you as a dogmatistic ignorant who cannot and/or will not recognize the validity of different opinions other than your own. This country is larger than just two parties. You are asserting that 49 states were corrupt rather than looking at the faults of your own party Your inabilty to recognize this demonstrates your true ignorance.
osmobm01 3 years ago
The 1984 election was stolen. The voting machines in 49 states were broken. Old people couldn't punch holes in their ballots because Reagan took their food away and they were malnourished. Democratic voters could not make it to the polls because they did not have time to cash their welfare checks. I demand a recount! Im a liberal Barack Husseion Obama Bin Laden supporting dummycrat and I demand a recount!

Hey FrankCastlez, you should get a bumper sticker that says "Fossil Fuels Forever". Maybe Sean "Slanthead" Hannity can make it for you.
As for the 1984 election, Mondale was a bad candidate, but I don't think anyone could have beat Reagan that year.

Robertoroboto 3 years ago 3
I don't think mainstream Republicans are to be blamed for cowardice. I'm finding more and more that there's a certain charmless megalomania amongst Rep. Party leadership. They've been telling the grassroots types that we don't know anything about anything and that they'll do whatever they like.
Now we're going to let them lose.
Its what needs to happen.
Death to the Republican party!
idespiseall 3 years ago
Mondale Loosing by a landslide has nothing to do with Ferraro being his running mate. He just was a terrible candidate.
gurney50 3 years ago 5
Their candidate is getting trounced and the response is, "The voters aren't deciding the outcome." ROTFL, the loser lib playbook never changes! If it wasn't such a bad political climate for Republicans right now, McCain would beat Obama the same way. As a result, McCain will probably only end up winning by a 4 to 6 point margin.
thunderstruck665 3 years ago 4

A fifty state sweep would have been even more beautiful. I also agree that America proudly more conservative and Republican. Democrats and liberals do deserve any political office whatsoever.
