They did divide into 2 channels. (MTV and VH1) and then later 3. (MTV, VH1, MTV2) and now 13! In the age of on-demand music and video (Itunes, MP3 players and Youtube) MTV playing actual music all the time doesn't make sense from a marketing standpoint. The market has clearly changed and their old business model is obsolete. Sentiments aside, that's just reality.

I don't have an opinion on what they were playing, and I don't know what you mean by 'stealing the little guy's ideas', that's a fairly generalized statement. I don't know how they rate these days, but Viacom is their parent company and they are a behemoth. Anything well known is a 'big company' in this world, though, so I don't see the point in wishing they go out of business, but I have no skin in that game, so I don't really care.

I wish MTV sticked to its original roots. There is NO MORE music on it any more! I have to go to VH1 to watch the music videos. I am even surprised that MTV is not doing the same thing as VH1. Hope MTV gets a wake up call soon or else they will lose lots of there people.
I mean, David fucking Bowie was contributing to MTV commercials. Now, they get Snooki and the situation and that's the image of the 2010's. So sickening. MTV has spiraled. Not even TRL survived and TRL wasn't even that great but that was the last thing MTV ever produced for the music world.

Will about the 90s I said I hated because I was a child and just wasn't old enough so I'm not saying everything in the 90s was terrible. I liked Rugrats and Doug on Nickelodeon and the Power Ranger sort of will you know in their first season only. As far as 90s music goes the good 90s music would come mostly from the 1990-1994 period. There were some good songs in the 1995-96 period but musical quality was going downhill making the 1997-99 period a not so good time for music. I love the 80s stil

If MTV were a chick it would be like that really hot chick in high school that was way out of your league. And then you bump into her 20 years down the road and she's a 300 pound prostitute, covered in tattoos and addicted to heroin. That's the MTV of today.

everyone who knew the old mtv would certainly want it back, but sadly, the truth is, that there is a reason that mtv is showing what it is, and that is because mtv's audience is now consisted of people who like reality shows, and that's how MTV makes money
Money is more important than music to MTV now, and that is why it's dead

yo creci con tvcable en los 90's xdios ver tvcable en esa epoca era una bestia tanto buenos show en CARTOON network y nickeloden que la paso a esos canales y MTV una besta en esos tiempos y tambien mi MTV de la adolecncia 2000-2006 genial tantas buenos show para mi la mejor epoca en tv y musca 2004 pero desde el 06 todo ha cambiado no hay nada que ver en tvcable

I think we KNEW being a teenager in the 80's was great. By the way - try to change your job if you really don't like it. Not worth doing it if you really think it horrible!

lol @ heegoop the 90s was the best time to be a teenager we had money and there were jobs every where i got out of high school in 1994 and you could walk in to any place and get a job for 10.00 an hour mtv was still kick ass and music was the best and i lived out side of st.Louis in a new town that was growing so fast that the city could not get enough police to work so you could do any thing and the cops would never show up it was party time all the time

Will about the 90s I said I hated because I was a child and just wasn't old enough so I'm not saying everything in the 90s was terrible. I liked Rugrats and Doug on Nickelodeon and the Power Ranger sort of will you know in their first season only. As far as 90s music goes the good 90s music would come mostly from the 1990-1994 period. There were some good songs in the 1995-96 period but musical quality was going downhill making the 1997-99 period a not so good time for music. I love the 80s stil

@eggsammichz I was born in 1978 an d I would've love too to be 16 in that year.... but I love also being born in 78... grew up with the 80's & my teenage years with the 90's alternative & grunge..... the 90's MTV commcerial were awsome.... and liquid television..... surreal.... love them!!!!
