How to record your screen on a Mac

can some one tell me how to record part of the screen? or more specifically how to capture the camtwist effects to upload to youtube, i found a tone of programs screenFlow that records all the desktop not just some of it final cut pro i cant even work out how to use it lol wste of money untiil i learn how to use it.. but i cant find on google i leave comments here no one can or wants to tell me how to do it. pls some one?? tell me how to??
