Oh man you guys see socialism everywhere. This has probably little to do with it to begin with. Regardless, socialism, fascism and "democracy" all suck.
This video is a bit much. The real message it's trying to get across is people should work together and contribute their skills for the improvement of their world, and that life isn't always about looking after only yourself.
However, I will admit that this film is definately a bit preachy at times, which was one of it's flaws...

@CajunCommie If a certain organization of work is mutually beneficial, no one has to force/regulate/insist that it be done, people will naturally gravitate toward the mutually beneficial means of doing any task. You don't need a government to tell people to do things for their own benefit.

If capitalism were taken to its greatest extent, a state would not be needed at all( which we can also agree to be bad). But fascism is when the state thinks it can can take better care of you than you can. for instance, you can own private property and trade, but if you're not using that property in the state's best interest, it can and will shut you down.

Collectivism and individualism are not wrong or unworkable. Its the violence that backs them up that proves to be problematic. Some people like the collective others do not. Lets not force anyone to do either and let people interact how they want.
Ant (and bees and termites) work together but there is no enforcers that require any ant to do any labor. They instinctively want to perform their duties. Bees acquire information and actually try to persuade other bees to follow them for food and other nesting sites. I would guess that ants do this as well.

I suggest you all read an ACTUAL work of Marx/Lenin/Trotsky and THEN criticize. If you ask me, collectivisation would cure a lot of society's ills. The difference between Marxism and Stalinism is the difference between: the STATE above the individual, or the MASSES above the individual.
The disconnect between the theory of Marxism and how it has been implemented by Stalin and others is because the theory is inherently anti-human. For Marxism to function human beings must be forced to sacrifice their hopes and desires for the Utopian fallacy called "the common good". Marxism fails to recognize cases where an individual's self-interest can also have huge benefits for everyone (think Edison creating the light bulb). The only way Marxism can work is to lobotomize every human being.
What's amazing is that ants have no central authoritarian, but rather respond to individual incentives/stimuli (like humans do to prices) which results in a brilliant cooperation. It's a messy system (just like the free market) in that sometimes ants will do things that don't seem to be as "efficient" as humans would like them to be-& yet it's perfect. The way to solve the problems around the world is simple. Bring in compromise. Compromise is where the solution lies. If pacifists believes one thing such as banning guns to end oppression and gun rights activists don't want to lose their weapons just work to find a balance. If you just ignore the other person's point of view you would just be creating more oppression because you wouldn't be giving them any say. Everyone's views matter and methods should be made to form a balance.
Individualism is a fantasic thing (goes without saying), but seriously, people need to give each other a hand now and then. I don't think this movie's message is a bad thing.
I think there is a difference between helping each other on your own, and being forced to work for equality. It's the difference between charity and socialistic. Working for eachother because you are a "One for all, and all for one" then there's a "We are the borg, come to assimilate you." Truth is, communism is a good idea . . . if you don't have selfish people. Ants aren't selfish. Humans are. There's where we hit our snag. I would prefer to have tap water to no water. But that is the wrong question. The right question is could it be provided privately? and could it be better? This question could only be answered by economists and historians and a range of experts who could determine if it could or could not.
It isn't that people are motivated by profit alone, it is that they will not be FORCED to respond against their self interest easily. People look out for themselves as well as others, this is far from wrong. To act on the profit motive is to act in self interest, and by extension in the interests of those who share your bounty (Bakers profits help those who consume bread, those who consume bread by wheat ect.)

However, read the statistics of things such as infant mortality, literacy, age, health, you will find that they all improved. Life was far from perfect, but it improved because of freedom. The conditions of pre-industrial Europe were far worse than the Industrial Revolution.

In reality people are bigger than ants because our "every man for himself" strategy let us become dominant over all other creatures on the planet. It let us form partnerships only with beings that deserved it and by pairing ourselves with the strong we could conquer larger beasts.
Meanwhile the collectivist strategy never generated large or strong creatures because there are many colonies, and they still fight. Socialism only works for ants when they all contribute, and they are easily poisoned

Ant (and bees and termites) work together but there is no enforcers that require any ant to do any labor. They instinctively want to perform their duties. Bees acquire information and actually try to persuade other bees to follow them for food and other nesting sites. I would guess that ants do this as well.

The disconnect between the theory of Marxism and how it has been implemented by Stalin and others is because the theory is inherently anti-human. For Marxism to function human beings must be forced to sacrifice their hopes and desires for the Utopian fallacy called "the common good". Marxism fails to recognize cases where an individual's self-interest can also have huge benefits for everyone (think Edison creating the light bulb). The only way Marxism can work is to lobotomize every human being.

What's amazing is that ants have no central authoritarian, but rather respond to individual incentives/stimuli (like humans do to prices) which results in a brilliant cooperation. It's a messy system (just like the free market) in that sometimes ants will do things that don't seem to be as "efficient" as humans would like them to be-& yet it's perfect. ex:
you grow wheat, I grow corn. We trade corn for wheat and wheat for corn. You obviously at the time of the transaction value the corn over the amount of wheat you agree to trade and I the reverse.
We both benefit, we both mutually profit from the exchange.

The way to solve the problems around the world is simple. Bring in compromise. Compromise is where the solution lies. If pacifists believes one thing such as banning guns to end oppression and gun rights activists don't want to lose their weapons just work to find a balance. If you just ignore the other person's point of view you would just be creating more oppression because you wouldn't be giving them any say. Everyone's views matter and methods should be made to form a balance.

I think there is a difference between helping each other on your own, and being forced to work for equality. It's the difference between charity and socialistic. Working for eachother because you are a "One for all, and all for one" then there's a "We are the borg, come to assimilate you." It isn't that people are motivated by profit alone, it is that they will not be FORCED to respond against their self interest easily. People look out for themselves as well as others, this is far from wrong. To act on the profit motive is to act in self interest, and by extension in the interests of those who share your bounty (Bakers profits help those who consume bread, those who consume bread by wheat ect.)

No offense intended, but Charles Dickens was a writer of fiction, who was more of a romantic. Not that I don't enjoy his work, he was a literary giant. However, read the statistics of things such as infant mortality, literacy, age, health, you will find that they all improved. Life was far from perfect, but it improved because of freedom. The conditions of pre-industrial Europe were far worse than the Industrial Revolution.

3: Were these deaths attributable to the free market or just the technology of the times.

Capitalism is a dog eat dog rat race,people rise up by climbing on the backs of others.The way to get really rich is indeed by hard work.But making sure its other peoples.Its is the system socialists hate, not individuals.

Capitalism is freedom, economic freedom. Every dollar spent is a vote to keep that company in business. Provide goods that people need/want at a reasonable price and people/consumers vote with their dollars to keep you in business. Make poor products and you go out of business. How much more fair and democratic can it get. There is not a single case where an economy has done well under socialism.

You hand it over in exchange for wages. You then take those wages and hand them over to a educational facility for a better education. You then take that education to find a job that allows you to be more productive, or even provide wages to others, allowing them to be more productive.
Look around, nowhere do people rise upwardly more quickly than capitalist societies.
Sounds like you just hate successful people.

Socialism is just legalized organized crime.
Is it moral to walk into your neighbors house & rob them at gunpoint? No? What about if you convince 10 other people to help you. 100? 1000?
A simple 51% of the majority vote?
That's what socialism is. It's a system that enables the government to rob its citizens at gunpoint, and then give those spoils to somebody else.
