All the caranatic musical pandits in Chennai, will not have any shortcommings & shortfall in imposters produced in each family(tambaras)...there can be one and one only L.Shankar/L.Subramanian and L.Vaidyanathan. It was great then...in 70's & 80's.
Don't equate them with yourselves and degrade them.
L =Lakshminarayanan. Better not pronounce it and let people wonder. His stage name at that time was just Shankar. European copies had an L, USA not.
Has anyone noticed the similarities to Steve Vais "For The Love of God"? Also a Zappa alumni around the same time, he must have been inspired by this song no doubt. He also included an electric sitar to give it an indian flavor.
Simon Phillips drumming is as usual - divine. Can't find a CD of this album though, anywhere it seems.

You can hear the Eastern Indian influence on Shankar's wonderful performance as well as the beautiful jazz piece to go along with it.

zappa s musical love combined with l.shankars magic ,
shall be forever lasting. it melts your soul like a bit of cheese,
put on a stick and held to the fire. like fire it will always be there.

I always loved this song! I remember learning the melody on guitar in the early 80s. It's hypnotic.
L. Shankar also recorded an album with my friend Mark Murdock and Brand X bassist Percy Jones in the early 80s.

It is truly beautiful. I have a DVD that has L Shankar playing with Mahavishnu John McLaughlin when they played as Shakti. I need to post that here.
