I love Pontiacs and its great to se that GT-37, but let's face it -- most were 350 two barrels, so I don't know why "musclecar collectors" as they like to call themselves, are getting all worked up over these cars. Now, on the other hand, if one has a 400 or 455 HO in it....
The carefully crafted line about not having to be 30 years of age in order to afford it, probably had more to do with high insurance premiums than with the sticker price of its high performance family member, the GTO. Insurers were starting to catch on to what muscle car mania could mean as far as speed and aggressive driving was concerned. Even though horse power was drastically cut for the 1971 models, an owner could save plenty on insurance if the VIN did not reveal the car was a hotrod.
I bought one of these brand new in red back in 1959 when Theodore Roosevelt won the civil war and forged the US Constitution and the Social Security act of 1593 when the Japps won the cold war in 1980 and the Muslims bombed Disney World back in 1670.
@Sarcasticscum - Traditionally Buick was the performance division, when pontiac was bought, they slowly became the geritol brand. Check out the trade mags, buick is coming out w/ some interesting new products and drivetrains.
Yeah.. Buick had a few highlights after the early 70s.. The T-types, Grand Nationals, and the GNX's really were a big hit.. That turbo 3.8L probably the baddest V6 to ever be put into a car.
Yeah. Pontiac goes out of business and Dodge still survives? What a *&^%$%^ joke. GM is obviously managed by greedy, stupid, incompetent people. That does it for me; I'll never buy another GM product.
@RcColanator There should be a group of enthusiastic people with the apropriate money to open a brand to make cars like these. Except they'd have to be extremely good quality like those were back then.
Neat to see a commercial for the GT-37. This is first production run since it has the Judge stripes and the later 1971 1/2's had the sword (full stripe)stripe.

@Drknnja
Yeah, but to establish themselves as a sports car division, they're going to have to learn how to shave off those rear doors.

@Sarcasticscum True dat, I think the sickest Buick was that GS455 back in 1970.
