heading toward the bridge at that timme you should be pretty good. Worst starts at noon and builds until you go crazy. Just so you know, the ciity of Chesapeake jacked the tolls on the "Chesapeake Expressway" from $2 to $6. Change your GPS to "AVOID TOLLS" and you can take 168 (Battlefield Blvd) and save $6. Enjoy your time in one of my favorite places on Earth.

I'll be in the OBX this coming saturday. Cant wait. I have a question.....If I get to this bridge at around 9am, is there usually traffic that early? It is 4th of july weekend.

The span they're on is the newer westbound span, I'm not sure when it opened. The eastbound span opened in 1966. I remember going with my family on a trip to the banks, and you still went across the original Wright Memorial Bridge, which I think was built in the teens. It was where the westbound span is now. We were in a 1963 Ford Country Sedan Station Wagon on that trip.

@Tom6093 we usually stay in Duck, been going there for years. Other obligations limited us to 1 week on the OBX this year. The hot single wome I see at Fishbones are all my daughters age so I'll hang with the hot single women I met in 1975. We enjoy cocktails by the poll then steaks on the grill.

The bridge is usually packed on the eastbound part of the bridge. I drove on there in 2006 and we were stuck in traffic for almost an hour.

that is the worst bridge when leaving the obx, i live there and i hate leaving, but its always nice when coming back to the obx

It is msotly except for the high rise part for marine traffic. The thing westbound is really humpy.

It's actually the "Wright Memorial Bridge", and is 3 miles long. Bumpy, too!

Yes, you are correct on all counts, thanks. The bridge westbound is a rather roller coaster ride. When I broke a shock off on my truck last year it was a long ride over the bridge. I amended my description to include the correct name of the bridge.
