@busterbone gettysburg, it was called in by Lee not Pickett which is a common mistake people make. During the battle Pickett was asked to rally his men to make a charge in which he replied I have no men to send!
@jesusboii7 That was a really sad fact I could not imagine being Pickett at that time. Stephen Lang did an excellent job in his portrayal as Pickett in Gettysburg.
Rally men! Rally! Look... There is Jackson standing like a stonewall. Let us determine to die here today and we will conquer. Rally be hind the Virginians

Ft Monroe will be finially turn back over to the state of Virginia, I believe in 2011. Wouldn't it be a cool thing if a confederate re-enactment unit march in as the US Army leaves in their grand ceremony?
If I may chip in my two cents I think it's great what those volunteers do. I live in Korea and they only have one single living history museum for the entire country. They don't have anything like this. I think fantastic that these people take time out of their busy lives to teach people. When I return to the States with my Korean girlfriend, I'll be sure to bring her to one of these events. What a great way for her to learn about American history! Thanks so much for your hard work!
We may have lost the war but we have carried this country through every war since then. Did you know that while the north was committing acts of genocide against the indians the south actually emancipated the slaves before the north did. And that there were slaves working of the White House when the war started. If Andersonville horrifies you look up Camp Douglas in Chicago. As a decendant of a Confederate Veteran I totally and unconditionally disapprove of the KKK and them using our flag.
Those soldiers that died for us didn't want us to live the way the did. They fought so we wouldn't drink from open sewers. A reenactment is a way for someone to see the battles and experience a hint of its enormity. It is a great learning tool and experience of fighting in the past. What is wrong with the enthusiasim of those in the reenactments? They are not immature insecure, you are. Do not knock a great form of retelling history.
Reenacting is about not forgetting trials our ancestors went through to keep our nation together. Just as we watch documentaries/visit museums about the pioneers and learn of Christopher Columbus, so too do we want to touch that part of our history. Reenacting brings history to life as much as it can w/o traveling through time. I've heard of many young individuals who become truly interested in learning about our nation's bloodiest, costliest war because they attended a reenactment. Never Forget
Better yet maybe we got respect for the men that died fighting the bloodiest and most fierce war ever fought. We do it to show the significance of how many gave their lives, we do it for respect asshole.
Me and my father reenacted in this battle, You of course can't see us but we are in the distance taking on a large union force, we are part of 4th Texas Co. Have not done it in years now but I still love it.
This could be total bull shit but...I have an aunt who helps in Civil War re-enactments. Anyways she says that there have been claims by re-enactors. Who say they saw civil war ghost cheering them on and marching with them or what ever. Any one else hear of this?
but not civil war it was at this medival thing they had this big viking march during it and i saw this dude who didnt look like everyoneelse then he disappeard 15 feet away from me it was on the east coast and if you look it up the viking king lief erricson came to this continent long before columbus
I never saw a ghost and I've been in hundreds of reenactments and slept on many battlefields as a volunteer for the National Park Service. I've never seen a single ghost or suddenly found myself marching next to unidentified soldier who might have been a ghost. Those stories are all urban myths.
Hope what's fake? The whole movie? The reenactment? You think people are actually shooting bullets? No. It's real muskets, real horses, real canons, real black powder and real people.
Depends, if it's a tactical battle a judge will tell you if your dead. For most battles if your low on ammo, tired of marching, don't feel like retreating or you just feel like going down, you just take a hit. If your a good actor and you act like your hacking up a lung or something like that it add to the feeling of realism for the reenactors and for any spectators.
The crackling sound are the muskets going off in the distance. When several go off in a volley, it sounds like canvas tearing. I have been to reenactments and know this.
You see, in a war, there are these things called guns... you fire them at the people on the other side... they can seriously hurt someone, sometimes even killing them... they make a crackling noise when you pull the trigger.
geez my battalion was all the way back there. You got a nice shot of the Fire Zouves (guys in red) at the end there. my good friends the Liberty Rifles potrayed them. The reb calvery ripped them apart. That was a fun event. I got a video of it too.
Actually BillRich, I thought that the South named it after the nearest town, in this case Mannassas and the North named it after the nearest body of water, in this case Bull Run Creek,
fwade20, why was the 1st Tennessee at the 1st Manassas reenactment? They were not there in 1861. Only the 2nd Tennessee (Col William B. Bate) and the 3rd Tennessee PA (Col John C. Vaughn) were at 1st Manassas. Bate's 2nd Tennessee saw no action and the 3rd Tennessee PA lost 4 men total.

Bloodiest war ever fought???
Hardly. Most American casualties in a war, yes. Total casualties for both sides was around 620,000.
Bloodiest war? No. WWII has that disgrace. Total casualties for all combatants: approximately 70 MILLION souls.
