  • good howto but i would rather take it to a model shop to get that garenty that it works

  • A concise, clear as crystal guide for dummies (like me !) to make conversion not only possible, but easy as well. Thank you very much you two guys - your efforts and quality video plus commentary have placed you at a 5 star rating , and the BEST video on this subject second to NONE !

  • @colliecandle WOW I better make sure we keep it up then, and that the next DCC vid is even better lol Thank u

  • Great video thanks for doing that I'm just about to hardwire a model to dcc which also happens to be a Hornby 47!

  • Would blue tack be a good thing to stick the chip down?

  • @Hornby09c it will definitely do the job but a sticky pad is probably best.

  • im a little confused. did you re-connect the the red and black wires back to the front bogie? apart from that great vid. will you be doing one on a hst as i need to convert them.

    thanks

  • @MrTrainsimfan - just watch the vid again and it will make sense. Especially if you look at your DCC chip instructions at the same time. But yes more DCC vids are on their way!

  • @zilte2

Is it made under a year old And un-modified? If so, return it to the manufacture, it's still under warrenty. They will either refund, replace or repair it for free!

  • @InterCity82

I've found this video very helpfull, I think alot of other people have found it usefull aswel.

You don't suppose you could do a video on chipping a steam loco could you? As they can be harder than normal Deisel/Eletrics

  • Whats the difference between a DCC and a noon-DCC Ready?

    And a Standard DC?

  • @Gutta5aint - DCC fitted is a loco with a chip already in it. DCC ready is a loco with a socket ready for a chip to be fitted to it. DC is a loco with no DCC provision at all but can be converted with some work.

  • @InterCity82 Alright, that cleared up somethings. I plan on getting a train set, but when i look up all these videos, it looks a little complicated. You know with all the scales and stuff.

  • Could u do video of how too dcc a small loco

  • @RABBIDmonkey1 - such a video is coming up in a matter of weeks ;)

  • Do I just need a normal 8 pin decoder

  • @Grandcentraltrainuk - it depends on the loco you are chipping. If you have a loco with a 21 pin socket inside, then obviously you need a 21pin chip.

  • Kl :)

  • If u sey up this service could u tell me

  • @hornbyguy321 - you'll know if I set it up - trust me ;)

  • K thanks

  • Could u send ur loco any where to get chipped because that looks very hard?

  • @hornbyguy321 - most model shops will do it for you for a small charge. If the demand is there I might set up a service myself!

  • how do you chip a small loco

  • @Megacoolcat2000 - with great difficulty ;)

  • Will, I doubt I would be able to do this, would it be possible to send a loco and chip to you so that you could chip one of my locos for me. I would pay of course as I can't do this myself?

  • were can i get a gap opener

  • @FunsterProductions - look around for them online, alternatively, they will be for sale on my IC82 website due to launch later this August. :)

  • How do you assign a loco a number on the controller?

  • @BlurryBeaver - it depends on the controller. With the Hornby Select you hold down Select I think.

  • Thanks a lot for this very interesting video

  • What will your next video be on

  • lol loco:NOOOOOOOO!!! DONT TAKE MY BODY OFF!!!!

  • great tutorial. I think ill have a professional do mine though cuz im so clumsy ill clip the wrong wire or something

  • Great video i have a question has anyone dcc a triang/hornby class 35 hymek with the three pole motor and would it be possible to do.

  • @hymek43 - 99.9% of locomotives can be converted to DCC - have you taken it to a local model shop to see what they think?

  • great and detaild video im buy my trains dcc fitted

  • When is your next video

  • @mrthelionbeast - in about 4 weeks time.

  • are you able to run dcc fitted engines on a non dcc layout

  • @TRAINMASTER321 - I do not ever recommend mixing the two systems. Use DC controllers for DC trains and DCC controllers for DCC trains - simple.

  • why was there no upload last night?

  • @2012Mrlego - you obviously missed the video that told everyone I was going on holiday and taking a break. New vids will commence in about 4 weeks or so.

  • I have some useful advice when removing the body from the chassis. I use some old train tickets as they slide nicely into the sides which makes prizing the body of the loco off a breeze.

  • @InterCity82 Craig is very good at the technology bits! How long have you known him?

  • @IgotPMT - about 7 years.

  • How much is the rolling road

  • @Liverpoolfcfever - about £25 to £45 - depending on where you get it.

  • hey can i have one of your spear dcc controllers i don't have enough money for train stuff ps pretty please

  • @Megacoolcat2000 - I don't have any spare controllers - sorry.

  • I really need one of those 'Gap Opener' tools for my Lima Class 47 as it is such a tight fit that I can't get the body shell off to re-wire it. Very good tutorial.. :)

  • @2002And - thanks! Search on Google for the gap opener tool.

  • Thanks again for a well presented, clear and easy to follow video guide.

Although still firmly routed in DC operation I found the guide useful and informative.

Your clear explanation and attention to detail has made this one of the best utube videos I have seen for a long time.

    Keep up the good work.

    Shaun Leonard.

  • @smleonard55 - thank you for the feedback!

  • Cheers for this useful video, ive been wondering how to DCC non DCC locos for a while and it was the only thing putting me off getting them. Nice explanation of the process and I may now even give it a go myself!!! Any chance you might attempt to DCC the Virgin Voyager? :)

  • @ApacheBravo - The 221 Voyager certainly does need a lot of attention to get her chipped - I'll do a 2 or 3 part special on that I think :)

  • This is the first video of it's kind that is clear and very helpful.

Some locomotives have no room fore a DCC 00 chip. There are DCC chips made fore N scale, that fit 00 and even Z scale locomotives. Gaugemaster have 2 in there collection DCC22 (8 pinn) and DCC 23 (6 pinn)

  • Intercity please allow your new video to be viewed on mobiles, i have no laptop and cant watch it :)

  • right so your gona now plug the dcc into joe and re wire his brain and test him on the tea duties :)

  • get a class 70

  • @ModernRailways - haha ace thanks :)

  • how can you DCC 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 locs

  • @danielpclark1 - it's not easy with 0-4-0s as they're so small but it is possible and I have done it. Slightly bigger ones like 0-6-0s are much easier as there's more room inside the body for the chip. But bear in mind that a Lima 0-6-0 from 1979 might be very different to a Hornby 0-6-0 from 2008 for instance. Every loco is different.

  • @InterCity82 - very nice video :-) this helped me a lot with my hornby class 47 in Eddie Stobart livery as I have got to re-hard wire this loco as I burnt the chip out last time I did it. Thanks to you and Craig for a very helpful video :-)

  • @Class66Rocks - oh ace! I'm sure you'll be fine with anything DCC :)

  • Hi, where did you get that green mat from and what is the size of it?

  • @ishan99b - I got given it by a friend but you can find them in most craft and hobby shops. It's roughly A3 in size.

  • @InterCity82 Ok thanks :)

  • good vidio ill be dcc by next year i think if i can raise the funds to buy chips

  • @MrJezza31 - excellent! If you need any help just let me know.

  • Great timing on the vid as I have just purchased a Bachmann Dynamis to convert my layout to DCC :)

  • @scotrail47 - if you need any help just let me know! :)

  • Also, you then could have used a blanking plug (or just pins) to switch between dcc control and dc control for running in purposes - ie: it would have been identical to any current Hornby DCC ready model.

Its just a suggestion really, however due to the new 8 pin/21 pin boards, it is much better to retain the original male connector for easy re-use in another locomotive.

  • @LateNeverEarlyR - as for your comment about switching for running-in purposes, all of our locomotives are run-in in DC mode before they're converted. Again there was no need to go to the trouble of fitting a female connector as this loco will never be un-DCCed. Your solution would be very useful for somebody working on a tight budget who cannot afford a separate chip in every locomotive.

  • At approx 17:50, you made a huge error. Rather than doing this, what you should have done was to obtain a 'female' end for an 8 pin decoder. They are readily availiable on eBay and are only cheap. Then, you should have connected your positive and negative pickups/motor return feeds to their corresponding 'pin' on the female connector, After doing this, all you needed to do was to simply 'plug' the decoder in as per usual! Furthermore, the decoder would de reuseable unlike doing it this way.

  • @LateNeverEarlyR - although I understand what you're suggesting, I'm struggling to see the point in going to the extra expense and trouble of getting hold of the sockets that you talk about. We have no intention of un-DCCing this or any locomotive once it has been converted and so I hope you can see that this solution is a neat and permanent conversion.

  • for the next chipping video might I suggest one of the old tender driven tender locos Hornby used to make, while that would be useful for older steam locomotives it would also be beneficial for some of those with a Hornby Gordon, James, Henry etc.

Thanks for this video, it was very informative.

  • @capmodesty - thank you for the comment! I shall definitely do a video featuring a tender driven loco.

  • 5 stars nice

  • @jaannetts16 - your layout is 100% DC isn't it Jaike? Are you thinking of starting DCC at any point?

  • @InterCity82 it is to much work and i cant be bothered i have so many locos

  • nice one thx will and craig nice clear video will help alot of people that dont know how to chip a loco sweet stuff

  • @pyronathanpyro - cheers matey! :)

  • where did you get the dcc chip from

  • @mickeyC811 - Trident Trains

  • how do you put a sound chip in the arriva trains wales class 150

  • @mickeyC811 - sound is a lot more complex and that will be covered much later.

  • great! :)

  • @railflyer1 - thank you! Nice Rapier vid you did too :)

  • yea i think you should next dcc the bacmann class 221, everyone thumbs up if you aggre(sorry for the bad spelling)

  • @graystrainspotter - The 221 definitely needs doing but will it will take some time!

  • @InterCity82 it would take some time, if i was you i would put the dccing the class 221, in parts like 1 then part 2 etc....

  • Very well presented and pritty much very easy to follow. Thanks you two for putting this together! :)

  • @ReyoNeutra - thank you for taking the time to comment :) I shall do more as soon as possible.

  • where can you buy a gap opener from?

  • @dgsilverman the gap opener is from the Brodit hands free car phone kits..so would imagine halfords or similar would have them

  • @JonnyKLondon thanks, i just cant manage to open my class 67 atm

  • Really helpful, mate...I've got four Hornby 47s like that that would benefit from that!!! Great vid!!!!=D

  • @37116comet - thank you for the comment! :) If you need any help, just get in touch.

  • I think I'll stick with DC!

I have 6 Loco's that would need upgrading, and I'm lost just watching this, let alone doing it myself!

Good vid though and if I ever pluck up the courage to do this to my loco shed, I'll pop back to this vid.

  • Nice video, I've been doing this by my self for about 6 months with out help and once you do it once its really easy the next go round.

    Very good video for bigginers.

  • Craigs the ed china of railway modelling:)

  • @110samec - lol

  • nice one 82!! :D

  • @CorporalKinsa - haha cheers!

  • Good job chipping that smart 47! :)

  • @BritishRailways60163 - thanks! :)

  • Very helpfull!

    Thanx

  • @Mamodman - thank you! :)

  • Great effort there very clear, I would love to see the 220 voyager be chipped aswell as I'm still uncertain.

Also, how do you disable ratings?

  • @armleyroad - The Voyager is a huge project and won't be chipped for some time. As for the useless ratings thing, it's in the video options for any particular video.

  • Thanks for making this video I I can never really understand the instructions but seeing it demonstrated makes it look at lot easer.

  • @penninefilms - ace, and you're welcome :)

  • Do you plan on doing any with steam or with the virgin trains super voyager? The voyager would be a little tougher though because of the need of three decoaders but you can get lighting only decoaders for the cab units.

  • @wtierce1 - A steam one is coming up soon but as for the Voyager, well that's a huge project so will be done much later in the year.

  • This has to be the best explained video to DCC a none DCC loco, but I want to do it on a loco that has lights and am worried I could damage the chip or the loco.

  • @CoronationClass - thank you! I'll make sure one with lights is done next.

  • another fantastic video good tutorial for people who are stuck on try to dcc an engine

  • @Whizzer1 - yup! That was the idea anyway :)

  • That seemed so easy..thank you .. hope to see more with other motors soon..Thanks again

  • @Willowfs4472 - yes, definitely... in time.

  • Great Video Intercity82 :)

  • @Frserthegreenengine - thanks for the comment :)

  • this was awsome and so helpful

  • @DLH184 - thanks :)

  • thank you so much for this guide good video

  • @callum2k89 - thank you!

  • you can get the mag nifiing glasses in lidel some times we have 2 but one broke after a hard life

  • Can you dcc chip all non dcc ready locals.

  • @jacobporrett - you mean locos? 99% of them can be chipped, yes. But some are too old or too small.

  • 30:20 YAY that looked complicated

  • Great!

  • Thank you sooooo much, this is exactly what i needed!

btw, do you have any jaffa cakes left?

    Lol

  • @A4Express - haha, I think there was 1 left lol

  • couldn't explain it better! :)

  • @MyWorldIsTech - lol cheers

  • This could prove useful after xmas!

  • @LMS16440 - haha yes

  • Thank you so much! I'm gonna DCC my next B12 and my current locomotives some time. :D

  • @crazyracer12 - them B12s are very nice - don't blame ya! :)

  • @InterCity82 Yep, I say next because mine got fried. Literally. .-.

  • very nice tutorial there.

looking forward to your next video :)

  • @ThomastheE2engine - thanks for the comment!

  • brilliant video very helpful

  • @TheWelshMarches - you're welcome! :)

  • you should of done some advert when hes was doing all the wires. lol :)

  • @graystrainspotter - lol haha - maybe I'll do a joke one next time :)
