That's right. People shouldn't be feeding wild animals like this. They carry diseases and fleas that can be passed on to our domesticated pets. People think stuff like this is cute then get all shocked when a rabid animal attacks them or their pets.

I have a Cat, And Akita sheep dog, I reside in lower Manhattan,NYC, Around the corner where my Mom resides, A raccoon, Comes at night by her Firescape window, I have no idea where would this racoon reside. Since there's no place or yard to hide.

So true. Raccoons have never made good house pets. And they probably never will. They're easy to handle when they're babies. But they become really nasty when they grow up. Some people resort to releasing them, and some people just kill them so they don't cause any trouble. I for one am a raccoon lover, but I don't underestimate what they can do. I have just spent a month of my summer break trying to get one out of my attic without hurting it or myself. I researched until there was nothing left to read, then I set a live trap on my roof. I have no mercy for these things, they caused a good amount of money damage to things that couldnt be repaired. I hate raccoons, yours will be used to eating at your yard and one of your animals could come to eat some sandwich or whatever while that beast is there and the raccoon could start a dight and will usually win...
Don't corner them, the mother may get aggressive to protect her babies. (Hey, it's instinct.) Raccoons forage at night, so you can wait until they all leave and then board up whatever hold they got in through. Or more kindly you could wait until the babies are older to do it, when the can fend for themselves. Then they can all find a new place to shelter. (Don't call wildlife trappers. They just kill them, though they claim they "relocate" them. B.S.) They won't bother you. Tie up your garbage!
Supposedly they can become agressive if you feed them regularly then do not feed them, but as long as they cannot get inside your house, I see nothing wrong with feeding them the things they eat anyway, not human food, like grapes, peanuts, sunflower seeds, corn. They eat those things anyway....so I guess, as I said before, that the reason we are advised never to feed them is only because they will hang around if we do. But that is precisely what my fiance and I DO want....
They really are adorable. Wildlife agencies advise NOT to feed them but that is only if you don't want them around, I guess. We have a mother and her four babies in a tree next to our backyard fence, so we want them to keep coming back. I put out grapes and peanuts last night and sure enough, they do like them, as the wildlife sites say.
Thanks for posting this. Raccoons are so adorable! I have a friend that lives out in the rural areas and she buys cat food and puts it out for them in the summer time every evening around dusk. She yells "hear raccoons" and they come out of the woods and gather in her back yard.

Your friend must live in one of the very few states that still allow raccoons to be kept as pets. Most states have made it illegal to keep them and they should. They're not safe animals and I'm around them every day so it's not just an opinion, but fact based on experience. It's rare to have one that doesn't get aggressive. I wish they stayed sweet and everyone could enjoy the love of a baby raccoon because there is nothing quite like it, but there is a reason they're illegal in most areas.

I'm a wildlife rehabber and there is a lot of misinformation regarding raccoons. People keep them as pets for about a year when they reach maturity and then they want to discard them because they get mean as nature intended. Those raccoons suffer for our mistakes. They can't be released because they're imprinted by humans and they can't live with humans....guess what happens to them? They get euthanized.
There is NO CURE for rabies. It is FATAL. Please don't spread misinformation. There is a vaccine to prevent rabies if you have been exposed.
It took THOUSANDS of years to "domesticate" the common dog.
Raccoons make HORRIBLE pets. For awhile they're cute and more fun than a barrel of monkeys, but then they reach sexual maturity and they become you know WILD ANIMALS and start defending their terrotory and what not as they should!!
People should not approach them in the wild. Let them be.
ever watch these guys wash their food? if you had a bowl of water there they would prolly be dipping it in and giving it a scrub! such intelligent little guys.. i really wish they would domesticate these animals.

They can be extremely vicious. I caught one in a live trap. He wasn't hurt; and I let him go. Those things turn into incredibly powerful monsters when they get trapped like that.
What doesn't? Anything can become a "monster" when in a trapped situation, even humans. Bellview still hasn't recaptured me. I took out 35 orderlies with dental floss when I made my escape.
When i went to Canada the authories warn us to be carefull not to get bitten or scratch by racoons :)) ahaha, coz they will sure kill you, because of ther venom...don't know if that's true :P..racoons are my favorite animals :) i wouldn't like to get killd by one of them :)) ahah
They don't have venom, but a lot of the time "not always" they do have rabies, and that will kill you if not treated right away. I love raccoons too, they're so smart.
They are indeed cute but not cuddly. A full grown male can turn ones hand into hamburger. Although, these guys seem pretty docile compared to the ones I knew growing up.
the kits are super cuddly. I just rescued one and transported him to a wildlife rescue. she tells me he sits in the carrier with the other orphaned kits she already had and just watches them. when the human hand at the gate appears, he's out the door and in their lap immediately. He was in my lap or sitting on my shoe for the day i had him. I did not want to let him go but do understand the best thing is to be rehabbed so he can be returned to the wild eventually. *sniff*

those raccoons look so healthy and behave as if they were raised by humans, I was a wild life rehabber for several years, these guys are way tame and look as if they had been shampood and conditiond with Pantene. (THat is how my raccoons looked too) they are so cute, the wild ones are mean as can be, more skunks carry rabies than raccoons, they are very smart and very affectionate, if they think you are thier mother. It is nice to see such pretty ones...
By the way, they look as though they eat like Cats. I mean how they utilize thier paws then take small bits off. I know it is trail mix, but it just seems more feline in eating habits if you agree.
I believe it's a combination of mixed press on raccoons. I mean even a Fox can turn on you if it needs to defend itself yet others find them the most adorable creatures on the earth. I do agree with you about how cute they can be. The main reason is because they are cunning and intelligent.

That is so awesome. I used to have raccoons that ate my cats food that I left on my back porch. They lived in my tree. I never got that close to them though.
I rehab wildlife. Mostly squirrels, but I have a raccoon. She is a none release due to siezures. She is 6 years old. I've had her sence she was a baby. Very sweet and loving, but you should never fully trust them. They really can be ferocious if they take a notion. Try marsmellows too, they love 'em.

I didn't mean to feed the raccoons. I accidentally left some food out and they discovered it. I don't want to make a habit of feeding them. If they ever do decide to make another visit I will try giving them some marshmallows. Thanks for the message and have a great Christmas.
They may visit again sence they found food. No harm in feeding them sometimes if you want to, Maybe farther away from your house, But do watch household pets and of coarse yourself. I went to Laughlin Nv a week a go with my family and we've been going there for a few years now
and every time we go there we see some new animals. This time i saw a Skunk and 3 raccoons

I'm a wildlife rehabber and there is a lot of misinformation regarding raccoons. People keep them as pets for about a year when they reach maturity and then they want to discard them because they get mean as nature intended. Those raccoons suffer for our mistakes. They can't be released because they're imprinted by humans and they can't live with humans....guess what happens to them? They get euthanized.

It a raccoon is trained right from birth and neutered they do not get mean with age. My friend has one.

There is NO CURE for rabies. It is FATAL. Please don't spread misinformation. There is a vaccine to prevent rabies if you have been exposed.
It took THOUSANDS of years to "domesticate" the common dog.
Raccoons make HORRIBLE pets. For awhile they're cute and more fun than a barrel of monkeys, but then they reach sexual maturity and they become you know WILD ANIMALS and start defending their terrotory and what not as they should!!
People should not approach them in the wild. Let them be.

ever watch these guys wash their food? if you had a bowl of water there they would prolly be dipping it in and giving it a scrub! such intelligent little guys.. i really wish they would domesticate these animals.

It's so cute how at :35, he can't pick the food out of the carpet with his mouth so he uses his hands. Raccoons are so excellent. Why is it illegal to have them as pet where I live...I'm so mad about that.

They can be extremely vicious. I caught one in a live trap. He wasn't hurt; and I let him go. Those things turn into incredibly powerful monsters when they get trapped like that.

What doesn't? Anything can become a "monster" when in a trapped situation, even humans. Bellview still hasn't recaptured me. I took out 35 orderlies with dental floss when I made my escape.

When i went to Canada the authories warn us to be carefull not to get bitten or scratch by racoons :)) ahaha, coz they will sure kill you, because of ther venom...don't know if that's true :P..racoons are my favorite animals :) i wouldn't like to get killd by one of them :)) ahah

They don't have venom, but a lot of the time "not always" they do have rabies, and that will kill you if not treated right away. I love raccoons too, they're so smart.

You're talking about rabies. I don't know what country you live in, but there is a cure for Rabies in the United States.

That's the only real disease Raccoons carry. They might have some bacteria in their mouths, but nothing they may have is incurable.

They are indeed cute but not cuddly. A full grown male can turn ones hand into hamburger. Although, these guys seem pretty docile compared to the ones I knew growing up.

the kits are super cuddly. I just rescued one and transported him to a wildlife rescue. she tells me he sits in the carrier with the other orphaned kits she already had and just watches them. when the human hand at the gate appears, he's out the door and in their lap immediately. He was in my lap or sitting on my shoe for the day i had him. I did not want to let him go but do understand the best thing is to be rehabbed so he can be returned to the wild eventually. *sniff*

uhm yeah, i have a raccoon on my deck right now as we speak, and it has babies, we fed it and were petting it....we havnt even seen it before and it's fluffly and gentle just like those oines in the video...so wildwomen222 you are def not a wildlife rehabber...lol

those raccoons look so healthy and behave as if they were raised by humans, I was a wild life rehabber for several years, these guys are way tame and look as if they had been shampood and conditiond with Pantene. (THat is how my raccoons looked too) they are so cute, the wild ones are mean as can be, more skunks carry rabies than raccoons, they are very smart and very affectionate, if they think you are thier mother. It is nice to see such pretty ones...

By the way, they look as though they eat like Cats. I mean how they utilize thier paws then take small bits off. I know it is trail mix, but it just seems more feline in eating habits if you agree.

I believe it's a combination of mixed press on raccoons. I mean even a Fox can turn on you if it needs to defend itself yet others find them the most adorable creatures on the earth. I do agree with you about how cute they can be. The main reason is because they are cunning and intelligent.

racoons are the craziest animals i have ever seen, when i was in ontario one of the little fuckers was trying to steal our food, so we chased the little guy up a tree, and the bugger kept coming back, adorable creatures might i add

That is so awesome. I used to have raccoons that ate my cats food that I left on my back porch. They lived in my tree. I never got that close to them though.

I rehab wildlife. Mostly squirrels, but I have a raccoon. She is a none release due to siezures. She is 6 years old. I've had her sence she was a baby. Very sweet and loving, but you should never fully trust them. They really can be ferocious if they take a notion. Try marsmellows too, they love 'em.

I didn't mean to feed the raccoons. I accidentally left some food out and they discovered it. I don't want to make a habit of feeding them. If they ever do decide to make another visit I will try giving them some marshmallows. Thanks for the message and have a great Christmas.

They may visit again sence they found food. No harm in feeding them sometimes if you want to, Maybe farther away from your house, But do watch household pets and of coarse yourself. I would love to see more of them if they do come back. You have a wonderful christmas as well and thanks for posting these adorable creatures.
