The first is about, Max, a cop, who was given the last of the v8 engines to help the police, not much is given in light if nuclear war took place, but from the 2nd and 3rd movies, it is clear that they are living in a time after nuclear war destroys Australia.

The first one was really just right around when the Oil crisis started happening. It looks like most people were probably out of the job and took to the roads to rob towns and things like that hence the hinted anarchy thats taking place in the first movie. The second shows that it pretty much became a blood war between 1 side against the other over fuel and other strategic materials.

Personally, I did like the Thunderdome / Bartertown bits all right. But yeah, the whole bit with the kids? Didn't quite fit. The concept was okay, sorta the inverse of Peter Pan's Lost Boys, but it just wasn't suited for the Mad Max series.

Still, I think Mad Max 4 (Manga Max) is gonna make this look like Citizen-freakin'-Kane. D:

Yeah, Bartertown wasn't too bad in the beginning. I actually enjoyed Beyond Thunder dome for a brief bit until they did the whole bit with Blaster being a mongoloid, and Master suddenly turning into a nice old man. It wasn't good compared to the rest of the series, but it had a little bit of Road Warrior flavor. Then the film went to hell in a hand basket with the kids and the captain Walker stuff.

I actually thought the Tomorrowmorrowland kids were pretty cool too. It was when the two story lines collided that everything fell apart. The train chase sequence is just painful to watch. I mean, a frying pan? Really?
