Was that a real Rock Racing Pro with the Rock kit?
Also how long does it take to get in the Cat 1- and 2's...or atleast high enough to be able to race against domestic pro's? I ask becuase I was wondering if it was possible to reach that high an amateur level with decent genes and physiology (Vo2 and LT) but nothing too slowtwitch or exceptional and starting at age 22?
The time it takes depends on how badly you want it and commit to cycling. A few of my friends got their Cat 2 license in about 2-3 years starting at age 19... but they were very dedicated. I've raced for over 7 years and got my Cat 2 when I was 20 = 5th year.
There is a big difference between Cat 3 & 2 so you've got to be good!
There are occassional Cat 1-2-3 races so you might be able to race them with a Cat 3... but it's not very common anymore.
Overall, you can certainly reach a Cat 2 at your age... It's not an easy road, but LOTS of fun and you meet great people at the races. Make sure to set smaller goals along the way so you don't burn out before you reach your goal
The Rock Racer was probably a Pro or at least a Pro-in-training = still a Cat 2, but almost ready for the big time.
I'ts really cool to race against the big name people & teams. I've raced against Toyota United, HealthNet, Jelly Belly, a few Olympians, Sierra Nevada, Successful Living (my good friend is on that team) and a few European teams... just to name a few ^_^
Great Vid Colter. Is this the same layout that they'll be using this Sunday for the Ontario GP? I read that it's 7 corners, 1.2 miles. If so, I only count 4 corners. But I love those high speed attacks. AWESOME!
You probably already found out that this race course is not the sam as the Ontario GP. They usually host a number of races throughout the season and mix up the courses betweena few different routes.
Yeah, this course was soooo wide and smooth that people didn't need to scrunch as much. In addition, there was a much bigger race going on the same day, so there wasn't as large a competition.
Just a question, how did you get into cycling and races? I really enjoy biking around but as of now it's just a hobby. Can you give me any tips/ideas??
This is great. I can't wait for our local crits to start back up next spring. I might have to a helmet cam. The POV is awesome. Good job and keep them coming. Will
Yes I do recommend the camera. You can find the specifics on Oregon Scientific's website. It feels a little weird with the extra weight and drag on the helmet. It works the best for me on top in the center of my helmet since all the weight transfers directly downward instead of on the side - you can feel it.
I suggest looking at it in a store to get a feel for the size. (it's not a stealthy camera, everyone in the race knew I had one and could tell where I was) Great picture quality for the size and price; I was expecting it to be a lot grainier...
The battery life seems pretty good. I haven't used the camera long enough to run out of batteries yet... And since it runs on 2 AA, they're fairly inexpensive to replace (or you could get rechargeable batteries).
Feel free to add comments and let me know what you would like to see / hear (ex narration - tactics, crashes - given, etc. On the next videos I'll cut out more of the general cycling part and add what the public wants... assuming I get it on video. Personally, I think it's cool to show how the pack is an amorphous blob and even though we all ride within inches of each other there are hardly any accidents.
What is the theme music of the first one? Thanks guys..

what happened to the bozo that caused the crash? he deserves a stiff penalty like cutting off his left leg so he can't ride again.

I haven't heard offically, but I believe he got suspended for the season. Not positive though; I don't really want to spread false rumors.
