This is abosolutely shameful. As a Hawaiian I am offended. The founder needs to change the name of the fitness program. It is NOT hula. If I'm correct the founder is Samoan. I'm sure her family would be offended if someone made a mockery of their cultural dances from Samoa. Maybe she should call it Hot Samoa and leave the Hawaiians out of it. What an embarrassment to native Polynesians.

the funny thing is, i don't know how they could pick a winner of the hula part. they all seemed to tell the same story & danced the same. LOL. they made like the last gal forgot the moves when they all looked just like she did. too funny. but i love anna-rita. ;)

this is embarrassing this is no way close to the actual Hawaiian hula. it is way more like the stereotyped hula. even the beginning is not even close to hula. this makes Hawaiian look like whores. this is horrible.
K this is a form of hula, BUT this form was created to get fit and for workout purposes only. Its not the traditional form of hula and i dont think it was meant to offend us in anyway. There are times where everything has to have some sort of evolution and change, but that doesnt mean the traditional ways will be forgotten. the model girls make it look bad, but were not the only people in the world that has a sacred dance that isnt being treated the same from all others. Get over it.
This was an awesome day of shooting...we girls are from Hawaii and we were hired to perform this style of dance /workout that Anna Rita created. It is a create style of work out..it's fun! It was not meant to be like traditional style polynesian..it's a modern interpretation that the producers wanted.
THis is just a gimmick, a way to "sell" yet another part of polynesian culture. So palagi's across america can say that they can "hula". PATHETIC. When will cultures stop whoring themselves out for a buck. Hula is sacred, and Hawaiians hold their dance form higher than most other poly cultures but you always have those who are willing to cheapen it and turn it in to this..I have seen other hula/tahitian inspired work out videos but those were a bit more respectful of the art. Hot hula is not.
I get that this is supposed to be a "fun" spin on hula dancing, but its simply sad. Opening your legs squatting and sticking ur ass out should NEVER be associated with polynesian dance, much less hula. Most of the "polynesian "inspired movement in this type of classes are more tahitian anyway. Its an insult to real tahitian dancers & to hula dancers alike. I for one do not get a kick out of doing tahitian movements to latin reggae music. I do tahitian dance bc I LOVE tahitian drums/dance.

GIVE ME A BREAK! there is NOTHING traditional about any of this... there is no mana or mana'o in any of this. makes me sick! why do these people call it hula?!?!?
Kumu hula all over the island are cringing! This IS NOT HULA! and the "hip hop interpretation" portion is disgraceful to polynesian dancing which is an ARTFORM to many real dancers. I cant watch!
