  • big Petey Sucliffe

  • Is actually exactly the same as Roll Deep - The Avenue

  • @domh Because they sampled it you dope.

  • @TheLagunaSunrise I was surprised on hearing the original how unaltered the sample is

  • great song

  • Nowadays they would probably have a plastic fantastic DD cup :)

  • I cant believe this is now 30 years old....still sounds great...I WANT MY 30 YEARS BACK. WHERE DID THEY GO. BOO HOO HOO

  • I've been searching for this track, checked out every single 60s and 70s CD collection for it.... and now it's from the 80s

  • does anyone know what Lol Mason is doing nowadays?

  • @supercourier73 Living in Royston Vasey?

  • @erictopp1Roy vasey only lives about 3 miles from me by the way

  • yorkshire ripper?

  • dya think the singer ever slept with those two chicks?

  • @supercourier73 Of course he did. The ugly hairy fucker fired his cock onto both pairs of willing tits. - Whats the point in joining a band otherwise?

  • 11 OUT OF 10.

  • great voice, but the video would be quite cheap without those two beautiful ladies

  • loved this song back in the day...it's got energy and memories...(reminds me of a school trip to the isle of whight when i was 11 !!) thanks for posting! xx

  • Peter Sutcliffe ? lead singer?

  • happier days :-)

  • What has happened to pop music ?

  • Man, I love these girls.

  • Is that JBS in Dudley?

  • @stevew1982 It certainly is!

  • mint tune, brings back some happy youth club memories ;- )

  • I LOVE this song. Oh to bring back the early 80s!!!

  • Lol Mason's brother played Richard Lord in Crossroads back in the day!!

  • Love the drum stick twizzle at 0:37 seconds..

  • When this was in the charts I was only interested in the backing girls!

  • Lovely, great pop catchy tune! Comes back to me everytime. Who are the girls, they were very pretty for backing vocalists....

  • love the guys name though, LOL mason. wish i had that name

  • to be perfectly honest, i like this song at the same time as hating it. i can't stand the maisonnettes or this song, but i can't get it out of my head. 1st saw it on MTV

  • the lead singer is kinda cute in bearish way..

  • @xXTempsXx hahahahaha thats a bloke

  • haha my old superviser from work on the drums, nice 1 Nick

  • America really missed the boat on this in the '80s. I read it was a hit everywhere else, even in Canada!

  • Filmed at Dudley JB's Birmingham - saw many a good band play there.

  • @brunster64

Me too. Remember it well. So sad JB's has gone.

  • sells claw hammers by the millions.

  • Clever song and yes he does bare a striking resemblance to the ripper.. although officer I have never seen this man before in my life!

  • I think this is great. Sue me.

  • my favourite of 1983

  • I think this group were from Birmingham, I don't think they exist anymore.

  • Roll Deep - The Avenue, I saw it in 2005 then I remembered this song.

  • 1982 ave it, great lol

  • This song is very similar to Turtles "Happy Together"

  • lennono you legend!!

  • what a brill place to film the video long live JBs .... great nights up there.

  • great song!!

  • sutcliffe must have been on day release from broadmoor when this was filmed. hope there are no hammers about!

  • @colavfc70 Police are looking for a man with a Geordie accent.

  • GReaTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  • sounds like a 60s record.

  • 8 dislikes = means 8 saddos. Lol. effing muppets.

  • TUNE!!!!

  • I love this song - it is so 60s pop and very out of step for its time. I remember having to order the single in specially as it was hardly climbing the charts. In fact if ABC TV hadn't played it as a filler I'd never have heard it at all.

  • @darvinion Hardly climbing the charts? I thought it reached #2!

  • @jemmabond Wiki says it got to No 97 in Australia. Should have been No 1 IMO. I love early 60s music and this song harks right back to that era.

  • @darvinion I do appologise - most of the people leaving comments here are from the UK, and I thought you were too.

  • @darvinion 60s? This is from 1982!

  • @usernameatthemoment

I know but I think it does have a 60s feel to it., especially in the backing singers. :-) One thing is for sure, you don't hear as many tuneful songs like it nowadays. More's the pity.....

  • This video was shot at JB's club in Dudley - they've had some great bands on there. Unfortunetely they went into Administration in January this year (2011).

  • Sutcliffe! Awful but damned funny... Its a great pop song!

  • @PAULLONDEN- 'one hit better than no hit' - this is true, and i've heard some of their other stuff and it's so bad it didn't deserve recorded recognition!

  • Agreed 'fuckst1cks'.........the peter sutcliffe look wasn't one of his best moves Lol.

  • I love this song in billions of ways, it is nearly thiry years old but still entertaining in every way.

  • @rojblake82. I love it too. I was 13 when it was a hit and for me it was a very 60's sounding. The lyrics were also quite bleak and at that age it helped to open my eyes about life & songs.

  • I had a German P.E. Teacher who would play this song on a tape all the time while we were running laps. I never knew who or what it was for years....till i found this by chance. Makes me think of a breakup

  • Can't help but think that they would have been more than a one-hit wonder had Peter Sutcliffe not been lead singer. Great track though.

  • love this song great vocal, alwys love hearing this song,,was used in a big hit for a uk rap band "rolldeep" a few years ago but the original is the best!!!!

  • @xXTempsXx LOL

  • The drummer now works as a team manager for Orange.

  • This one made me laugh so hard a little bit of wee came out! :-D

  • This one made me laugh so hard a little bit of wee came out! :-D

  • That man is sooo cute xxxx

  • the girls are so damn sexy!!!!

  • Lol Mason of City Boy - Top Man, great vocalist!

  • 22 yrs of age... get my thrills off this. age is just numbers. Life is just people talking.. words.. numbers .... seriously... just do what you want ... your gonna be dead in a minute... fuck everything. Oh so youve got kids to think about. BIG WHOOP. EVERY other human being will have kids to think about. Leary was right about one thing..

  • That's not Sutcliffe, it's Richard Stilgoe.

  • backing singer girls beware!! he will try to strike u with a hammer at the end of the song:)

  • Shit, I was 18 when this came out, it seems like yesterday, now i'm nearly ready to meet the undertaker, what the hell is life all about?, what i would'nt give to go back there!

  • great song brings back memories

  • Hey, ein echter Ohrwurm, gern gehört auf diversen Partys!

  • The bridge lyrics are perfect.

  • amazing song an im 22.. heard this on radio 2 just before christmas... BLEW. MY. MIND

  • i love the stern attitude

  • trying to make it sound like a northern soul record plastic still a nice record

  • so abfällig kann nur ein völliger ignorant reden über solche schönheiten!!!

  • hat man die 2 weiber aus dem puff geholt?? so schminkt sich heute keine vernünftige frau.

  • who is the singer ?

  • @gazzagamer lol mason

  • @gazzagamer That is Peter Sutcliffe

  • pmsl at the peter sutcliffe comments!he should be singing on broadmoor avenue!

  • Cute drummer . 1982 was an awesome year.

  • at frst i liked the roll deep version coz i never heard the original. once i discovered this one (the original & best), i haven't listened to that cover since!

  • The guy looks alot like Donny Osmond

  • ha ha , still, great tune. :)

  • @lennono1980 OMG shouldni laugh........hahahaha!

  • A true classic. Brilliant to hear agian.

  • to bad day have just 1 good song

  • Fucking class this. All time favourite of mine. This song can match itself with some Motown tracks. Just can't understand why they failed to follow this up.

The singers'severe case of charisma underload maybe ?

Oh well....better one hit, than no hits at all.

  • Comment removed

  • i went to school with the girl on the right ( Denise Ward ) she was hot

  • @gingerblues you lucky sod. lol

  • @gingerblues you lucky lucky dod..lol

  • i love this song

  • this song was a complete rip-off......the girls made this song, and they were on YOP courses being paid a tenner a week

  • Would like to see the actual girls who sang on the recording

  • @LonelyVagabond You don't think it's those girls that you see in the video ?

  • A nice record. I seem to remember that the lead singer appeared in 'Crossroads' at about the same time. His agent must have been working overtime.

  • @martinjp1958 It was his twin - I remember seeing them both getting interviewd on Tiswas in early 1983.

  • @harper1875 Thanks. An interesting fact.

  • @harper1875 His twin did appeared on Crossrad as Richard Lord played by Jeremy Mason

  • @harper1875 Dude, Tiswas had already ended by 1983; maybe you mean the Saturday Show with Tommy Boyd and Isla St. Clair.

  • @jemmabond i think Tiswas ended in 1983, probably not long after I saw the singer and his twin on it. I could be wrong though.

  • Singer looks like Peter Sutcliffe

  • Never realised Peter Sutcliffe was out of the nick.

  • @TheHarecat LOL I didnt see your comment until after i posted mine and only yesterday you posted yours haha

  • ... but this one's a bit of a rarity that zings round at you full on as you turn a corner in a sleeping city. You think: "Better call headquarters". You phone and suddenly you realize ...

  • Awesome song.well i think he is dead sexy!!!..:))

  • That drummer's badman :L

  • ripping yarns-seriously though top song

  • Great music, this was recorded at JB's in Dudley in the west midlands, brings back so many memories, had so many good times at JB's in my younger days.

  • Never heard about it before but this is really great !!!

  • I quite like men with beards, I wonder what he looks like now?

  • @Feisty1967 and I like you.

  • Is that Peter Sutcliffe on vocals???!!!

  • @doire1962 Haha, he does look like him!!! ;o)

  • @doire1962

    Well spotted

  • Peter Sutcliff sings well...

  • Those chicks are lip synching VERY badly.

  • @philwasgood.. He's doing a 30 stretch in Broadmoor

  • @micallmighty HAHA! that's evil!

  • is it just me or does the woman on the left (out of the two background singers) look a lot like cheryl cole.

  • @imusingit A little man, people say i look similar to Robbie Williams whilst we are talking about look a like's! check out my photo on my page!

  • Yeah she does but no relation as far as I know anyway!

  • classic !!!!!! my mam and dad use to play this loads when i was a kid .

  • 2 sexy dames!

  • Not-so-shock news: the backing vocals were supplied by good session singers, not the performers on the video.

  • Remember the song but was too young to appreciate the two girls! Nice!

  • yes, and me...that one with the long dark hair, I'd give her what for

  • I always loved this song, but had no idea who the performers were. Youtube is a great source for solving mysteries like that.

  • Fantastic - Brings back great memories of cruising around with my mates in my sweeny style ford granada - Great days but so long ago !

  • Great tune well peformed this guy had some voice anybody know what he is doing now ? This would be a good song to cover or re release

  • lol better than roll deeps version(jokes) :P

  • xD fout! but i love it o;

  • Cool tune and video. I've always liked it since i was 16 in 1982

  • two lovely ladies

  • Before The Maisonettes, Lol Mason (the Peter Sutcliffe lookalike) was in an even lesser known and more osbcure band called "City Boy"!

  • Yes!! It's the Yorkshire Ripper. I think i prefer his first hit though, 'If i had a hammer'

  • PSML!! That's just sick, ,man!

  • now correct tme if i'm wrong but this was recorded down the road from me in a studio in wolverhhmpton

  • jesus....its the yorkshire ripper!!!

  • this is great!!

  • zoppeycat, I agree. I enjoyed the 60s and 70s but this was one of those particularly good times and this song does stand out. There's a quality to it that symbolises the moment. You can't put your finger on it but some songs just do that. Glad you enjoy it too.

  • I was there! This was recorded for The Tube at JB's Dudley

  • I think The lead singer got stabbed in the face in broadmoor this week..

  • I love the girls' super backing vocal arrangement...'ticket to nowhere'!

  • was listening this song in the 80s in the GDR, we liked it so much. probably the two chicks became already wizen grandmas, bummer!

  • is that cheryl coles mum on the video?

  • Blimey....Peter Sutcliffe the Yorkshire ripper on day release from prison singing!

  • still have this single on picture cover,,,was so funny i liked so many bands back then, but this song so stays with you....anyway for anyone who might care i can share the fact that this single came off the album Maisonettes for sale!

The album as far as i know never came out,,,,i did wait for it as i loved the song so much,,,it just said on the back of the7",,from the forthcoming album Maisonettes for sale) love and peace to you all

  • An album WAS released with this track included, though when it came out in '83, I bought it in cassette format and then bought the LP in an old record store here in Toronto in the last 5 years or so, and on CD from an absolute a**hole in the UK via eBay.

  • When did the Yorkshire ripper bring out a single?
