Dragon Warrior sounds so much cooler than Dragon Quest.

This original rendition sounds a lot darker and more melancholy than subsequent remakes. Not sure if it has to do with the "plain" tone color or the slightly darker tuning; probably a bit of each.

Its weird, I've always known Dragon Warrior/Quest by the Monster games (where you raise/breed monsters). I hear almost all this music from the original Dragon Warriors in the Monsters games.
