Anarchism gets romanticized to a point where people don't take it seriously. i know its the intention of the people in this video, but whenever you see a black bloc or pics/videos of anarchist collectives its almost always predominantly young white males. i know theres anarchist people of color and anarcho-femnist for sure-
alot of us are average working class though. I think its important to tackle all sides from direct to indirect action to brains to brawn. I also think its important to start building a foundation for the after math of the revolution which doesnt seem to be very common. Black blocs are not always violent though, it is possible to have a civil disobediant black bloc but the tension we all feel only raises the cards for violent out bursts.
I have no problem with self defense..but dressing up in all black doesnt appeal to people who don;t know what anarchism is...and alot of people the only thing they do is go out and black bloc a couple times a year..we need to start focusing on unionizing more workers
We need to focus on building communities and bridging gaps between everyone and not just going in too work places and trying to unionize unless we are prepared for it and know what we are doing and have the proper training. You cannot just walk into a place and say "join the damn union" and then walk out you have to build strong relationships with workers first and gain their trust and friendship or you could lose them easily to the lies of the company about unions.
I don't need to gain the trust of the workers..I am a worker...I'm sure a good majority of the people who black bloc are workers too...Workers Self Managment is anarchism..Organize your work-place..If the EFCA passes unionizing will be come easier
No actually you do...if you don't really work hard to be their friends and get their trust, you mention the word union and they might go straight to the boss and the next words you might here from said boss is "your fired" it is illegal and immoral but they do it and in many cases they get away with it or already have a good union harassment program under way. We do need to organize workers and communities but we have to be smart about it otherwise the state will again have the upper hand!
@AnarchistCommunity im opposed to violence for the revolution. its defeating the whole point. if there can be civil ones then fine, but if its too risky its not worth it.
No, what we need to do is stop marginalizing and down talking working class folks...a lot of us act as if they hate anarchists and black blocs and direct actions when it has been WORKING CLASS people who have done a lot of the direction action in the past, Battle of Blair Mt. various IWW/union strikes, the anti port militarization stuff in the northwest, plus many events outside of the U.S. which have had many working people who were also anarchists and some who were not!
Plus it is important too realize that a lot of people would be happier without a boss and they support direct actions (the black bloc in America is not a good representation of that, they don't seem to be well organized and outreached for) and it is foolish for us as anarchists to assume they don't. We shouldn't assume anything about anyone, we should talk with them and be friends with them and support their struggles but we should act as if they would join up if they knew what was going on.
