  • You pussies...this has James Murphy get your facts straight...

  • I keep hearing hatreds rise in this. Nonethless still gr8.

  • WOW. This is great. I know the Scorps rocked it first but man this is so fucking evil sounding and great. The vocals on this are not your typical reguritated bullshit that sounds the same in many today's jock rock cock rock fake metal bands.

  • I like the original, and also this version! Original brings back memories, and testament version sounds heavier! BOTH ARE GREAT!!

  • I cannot ever give a thumbs-down to Testament, who I love dearly, but they butchered the hell out of this Uli Roth/Scorpions classic. I couldn't bring myself to listen objectively to the rest of it...sorry Alex...this sux.

  • Love the original and love this version. Testament fuckin rocks.

  • the sound is egyptian to my ears.

  • i seen them with judas moterhead and the 1 and only ronnie james verizon in san antonio!

  • This kicks ass! Scorpions will always do it better, but this version is KILLER! Reminds me of when Evildead covered "He's A Woman, She's A Man".

  • boo

  • much better malmsteen

  • sounds like they've taken a masterpiece of a song and, well, tightened it up. I prefer this version without a doubt. I'm not a fan of metal, well not till now. Extremely professional cover.

  • Testament Fucking Rocks!!! Thumbs up if you agree!!!

  • nice one...I like Klaus' voice's much better anyway! :D <33

  • Great cover of one of my favorite songs by my favorite band. Scorpions rule. Tip of the hat to Testament.

  • Would love to hear Alex perform this. Murphy's good, but Alex is a fucking natural.

  • Really good, until he started "singing"

  • @stratboy1000 No way, fucking great voice

  • @stratboy1000 lmao agreed

  • @stratboy1000 sounds alot better than the faggot sounding klaus!

  • I was a fool to think the awesomeness of this song couldn't be doubled

  • @what13521 hahahha. Nice comm. :D

  • EXCELLENT COVER!

only a great band can cover another great band without runing songs.

  • The set list at 1:17... :horns:

  • Fucking good.

  • HELL YA ULI ROTH TOTAL BAD ASS!! TESTAMENT DID THIS ONE BEST! WHERES MY BRO JOE ? WE PLAY THIS LIKE THIS AND IT KICKS ASS!!

  • Most covers suck. This rocks, this is as good as Pantera-cat scratch fever.

  • i would like to see testament yungwie malmsteen and the scorpions all play this togeather

  • i love testament but the version with Yngwie Malmsteen is better ;)

  • @ZorGrinder and the original is even better :)

  • Malmsteens version is good, but i think he over did it on guitar

  • Testament is metal and the scorps aren't

  • @HaohmaruOfTheWind Are you fucking kidding me? The scorpions are like the "Fore Fathers" of Metal bro! \m/

  • @HaohmaruOfTheWind lol Scorpions are one of the bands that created metal

  • @HaohmaruOfTheWind lol, not a smart comment.

  • best version

  • Oh, my! Cover after cover i realize how amazing that Uli's piece is!

The instrumental parts are absolutely magnificent here!

Once again thank you Uli for that incredible song!

  • i like this version, better than malmsteens who sounds unfocused

  • this is bad ass i like the original too but leave ti testimate for this awesomeness

  • --I just saw Uli J Roth last nite 1-21-11 ((in a small club in Huntington beach Cali

of course he played this .....

    NICE COVER!!!

  • Still one of the coolest songs ever written! I freakin love this song, always will.

  • great cover the introduction with two guitars is very nice.the guy played perfectlyvthe solo except for the bends the tricks of Uli wich i guess are very hard to reproduce just the vocals...total crap ,sorry

  • @beroth77

I think instead of "the vocals... total crap," you meant in your meager opinion, the vocals weren't your cup of tea.

  • @poopymcdoopy of course is in my opinion not to ofend actually kistening for the second time vicals are not bad.vocals are not my cup of tea?lol oh if i understand the meaning of that...you are so wrong

  • @beroth77

"The" vocals were not your cup of tea, as in refererring to this particular song. Not vocals in general.

  • I NEEDED TO HEAR THIS SONG IN A HARDER VERSION

  • This song is my favourite ever... Of course the original is better. but this still amazing

  • wish Louie was with them still.

  • Get ready for a surge in views from Gran Turismo 5 players. This song is in the game.

  • Much better than expected! This is great!!!

  • Testament was brave and bold to cover this song. Its impossible to get the Uli Roth tone for this song. I think Testament did a awesome cover unlike a so-called virtuoso shredder which I won't even name, that is how much he pisses me off, who butchered the song. This is a great cover. Thanks for posting it.

  • The very first 1:25 minutes of that song is one of the most exciting experiences that life could provide....I´m not a fan of Testament but this version is by all means pretty good!

  • Scorpions forever!!! great cover!

  • Vocals don't cut it. Guitar, however, is GREAT!

  • The prodrucer on this song needs to stop working in the music business.

    The mix is awful.

  • Cool, Testament made it sound like their own. That's the kind of covers that are remembered the most.

  • i prefer the original

  • We shouldent be discussing who is better SCORPIONS or TESAMENT b/c we all kno the original is the always the best and even TESTAMENT kno this,,, when a band pays tribute to your song it is b/c they admire and love your music,,,

TESTAMNET cover this amazing classic and do an excellent job they should be credited for having excellent taste in classic music,,

  • better than original imo

  • @bonuzround

The best is by Yngwie, however James Murphy goes well in this song.

  • Scorpions yeah!!! Testament do a fucking great covers.

  • Great cover, Listen to Hatred's rise by them, and you can tell it was influenced by this song

  • @TYLERBECKER94 I just realized that....it sounds almost exactly the same, in fact. Funny how that's never occurred to me until I saw your comment.

  • fuck yea

  • FYI the guitar that Alex Skolnick is playing is a The Heritage Les Paul copy

they were built by former Gibson luthiers after the company was bought by

Norlin in the 70's, very collectible!

  • good version !!!:P

  • This version is great, Testament is a great band, who ever dosen't like them has different taste or is jealous of thier skills

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • @666slink Cheers!!

  • Comment removed

  • @uburei it's not about the notes, it's about the soul, and Testament have LOADS of it! And, after all, this is a cover.

  • @Ajowerty yup best cover of this so far

  • a cover doesnt have to be note for note . also i dont know what the hell you are talking about a cover in an interpretation

  • @uburei This sure kick Yngwie Malmsteen's version's ass. But the Scorpions' original is of course the best.

  • @uburei suck a dick this version beats yngwie's total show off version

  • @uburei Alex is spot on with the Uli solo

  • @uburei Deliberately "wrong" is not "wrong", but a cover arrangement, asshole.

  • Absolutley the best cover version of this song...True TESTAMENT fan for LIFE!

  • Sorry guys but it's nowhere as good as the scorpions version! i know skolnick is a huge fan of ulrich roth though!!!

  • at first i am thinking this songs intro has a cool premise, but this song is horrible. and then at the end it clicks. this song is rad. its seedy and lurking. i like it. simple and not skolnick and not murphy (at least it doesnt sound like murphy, but i prefer cause of death or spiritual healing maybe even cancer), but what do i know, i dont even have this album. Testament has stood the Test of time.

  • como dije ,como el de scorpions no hay

  • if this is from signs of chaos...Why the fuck does it say new

  • the guitars are good, but...

I think Homer FUKN Simpson could have done a better job on the vocals. I have to agree with a previous comment somewhere saying he had to leave after 2 minutes. As soon as this fukn mope opened his mouth, I thought a couple alley cats were fighting over a dead fish, or something.

Nobody can whup fukn Klaus Meine!

  • Chuck is the best Thrash vocalist of all time, your out of your FUKN Mind! Mope!

  • No cover will ever be good as the original... Still good though

  • That's definitely James Murphy on guitar and i'm guessing Greg Christian on bass. Drums could be either Johnny Tempesta, or more likely John Dette or Chris Kontos depending when these covers were recorded. They had to have been recorded somewhere between 1994 and 1996 before Testament disbanded temporarily.

  • Thanx for sharing, cheers!

  • @wyldemw The line-up for that song was:

    Chuck Billy - Vocals

    Eric Peterson - Guitars

    James Murphy - Guitars

    Greg Christian - Bass

    John Tempesta - Drums

  • @evilshoebox Cool, thanks for clearing that up, I was never sure about it

  • @wyldemw No problem, dude. It needs to be known that this wasn't Skolnick.

  • @wyldemw And this was released on the "Dog Faced Gods" single of 1994.

  • @wyldemw the drums on this were done by John Tempesta.

  • @wyldemw Actually, I just looked up the credits for the album and neither Alex nor James are given credit for the lead guitar on Sails of Charon. Was Eric capable of playing it I wonder. Ill have to Email Alex and ask him. May take a while for him to get back to me. He's a very busy guy.

  • Sucks arse compared to the majesty of The Scorpions! Uli was, and is the best by far!

  • @torkrench: someday, when you pass the age of 12, you'll understand.

  • big hairy balls

  • Scorpions version is better

  • Good tribute to the best hard rock band and to one of the greatest guitarist of all time, uli john roth

  • I enjoyed the vocals, I think the song is great! These dudes were influenced by the original, I'm sure, and they took it to another level. It shows how heavy music has changed over the years. The different styles, especially drums. Nobody was playing drums like they do now, back in the seventies. lml

  • i totally agree with you. But i think that the guitar is playing is becoming worse (more technical though) as do the vocals. There is really not one person that sings in a rock n roll way anymore

  • @skinengine read another way, it shows how little has changed musically-speaking since the late 70s. this version is somewhat less-technical than the original. also the vocals are from the Paul Baloff School of Yelling, whereas Klaus Meine matched Uli's neoclassical/Gothism with Gregorian scales. if slightly more complicated drum licks are the only change, that's not really saying a whole lot. plus John Bonham, Cozy Powell and Andy Parker were doing this back then too.

  • yeah this singer sux pretty much all the way, mark boals takes the notes better than the original singer tbh, and his voice is fawking xtreme ;D

  • I love that V

  • Great cover. Testament took the song and made it its own, though no cover by any band can top Uli Jon's original...but then again we all know that.

  • @bes25 wait so uli is the one who originaly made this song? thx :P

  • @JulianTheGuitarist It was originally recorded when Uli was in Scorpions and is on their album "Taken By force"... however, it was written by Uli alone and he still performs it I believe.

  • @bes25 FACT!

  • mmmmm bueno pero el de scorpions es inigualable

  • nothing compares to the original but this is pretty damn good!

  • Hmm, of course I like the origional better, who wouldn't, but I give this a lot of respect, it sounds great, testament is one sick band!

  • this KILLS Yngwies cover.

    i fuckin love this.

  • @nathantim you're right. yngwie kinda wanks off too much. this one is a fitting homage to the original with a bit more heaviness. the vocals are kinda weak, though.

  • What was the lineup that recorded this? Sounds like James Murphy playing the leads, Tempesta on drums........and I'm gonna guess DiGiorgio on bass?

  • I've been trying to figure out who the guitarist is on the cover tracks... James Murphy was my first throught, but I think it's just Eric Peterson. I believe this was recorded around Demonic where Eric was the only guitarist in the band. Eric is certainly a good enough guitairst -- he hardly plays leads but he's more than capable...

  • The reason I thought of James was the tone on the leads sounds like his signature sound. No one else's lead tone I can think of sounds like James' tone does. Eric can play some basic fills and some blues-type solos, but I'm sure he's not up to Uli's standard. Funny you mentioned "Demonic".......this could be Glen Alvelais on lead guitar if this WAS recorded around that time.

  • I agree that it does sound like his signature sound. I had initially thought it was James, but trying to figure out when it was recorded, I'm thinking it might just be Eric. It does sound like an older recording, but I think it may have been recorded for the compilation too.

And yes Alex would be excellent on this.

  • I'm going to buy "Signs Of Chaos" to find out.

  • Hmmm...I always thought it WAS Alex Skolnik that played on this cover. I know it was on their Signs of Chaos (best of) album when Alex rejoined for a while and they recorded this song for the album. I guess I was wrong? But James Murphy was my second guess.

  • I'm fairly certain Alex joined 2-3 years after the Signs of Chaos album came out. I remember reading about Alex rejoining the band when it was hot off the press but I had Signs of Chaos for a while.

I know he remained friends with the band after leaving so it would be possible that he joined up with the band for a recording.

    It sounds like James Murphy...

Logically it's Eric doing all guitars on this...

The song selection fits Alex's taste...

Too bad they don't post credits.

  • This was recorded during the sound rehearsals for "Low". Draw the Line , the other cover (Aerosmith) on Signs of Chaos. was done before the temporary hiatas in 95-96 James Murphy was the leadman on here, And to anybody who says Chuck Billy isn't a rock vocalist can go get bent, Check out their other Aerosmith cover, Nobody's Fault, And Blessed in Contempt for starters.

  • Okay so it was James then. It's his tone so that makes sense....

Where did you get that from?

  • yeah, heavier distortion, but doesn't deviate from the original. i like yngwie's improv better

  • I love Yngwie Malmsteens Version of this song.

  • Much heavier but not better imo.

The atmosphere and style of the original still surpasses either covers.

Not to say that the covers are bad at all.

    I liked them both.

    Long live Uli Roth!

  • this is good but I like the more 70's feel but this is good for sure

  • Better than Malms version!

  • good jobs...but Uli rules owns Charon

  • Nothing beats the original, but this is pretty good :D

  • this one is the best in my opinion

  • Dude. The Scorpians are sure to be proud =]

  • The best cover of this song, period....

  • I prefer the Malmsteen one, but this one is really good too.

  • I love their approach on sails. Τhe purpose of covering is not to replicate the original piece neither in atmosphere nor in anything else characteristic of it. Not an easily covered song and they didn't butcher it aswell. 10/10 as a cover and fine on itself aswell!

  • I' d love to hear Testament's cover of this song with Alex Skolnick on guitar...

  • Alex would be perfect for this. He was influenced by UFO and the like, so this would be right up his alley.

  • great cover!! even if scorpion's one remains better!

  • Kick the fuck ass cover

  • that red neckthru Bich looks bad as shit with widow headstock

  • i actually cringed when he started singing lol. only 2 minutes in and i have to leave this vid

  • Ok the original in untouchable, I mean Uli Jon Roth as a guitar player is almost untouchable at everything he does, but I will say I like this cover of the song over Yngwie's. Malmsteen tried to show off too much and butchered it. I appreciate how these guys pretty much stuck to the original sound but with a bit of a heavier twist on it. Uli is the man overall though.

  • This song does not lend its self to being covered. Hard to top the 1977 original. Even mighty Yngwie's cover of this song sucked.

  • Андрей25RUS Конечно scorpions -это классика,но даже классика в обработке иногда звучит очень даже неплохо.Например:ACCEPT-Metal Heart или что-нибудь в обработке R.Blackmore.

  • Sorry to say it loses a lot of things the original offers - the tone, the smoothness, the atmosphere, the vocals.

I didn't enjoy this cover half as much as the original.

  • SUCH a great tune!!

this and STARGAZER by Rainbow have gotta be faves ... they're not all out metal, but not hat blues based classic rock ... somewhere amazingly in between

    GREAT SONGS!

  • This cover smashes malmsteens cover in the ground, his cover sucked. This cover is better than the orignal

  • Better than the original. Your fucking crazy. The Scorps then were a much more melodic hard rock band than their contemporaries and just happened to rock real hard on this one. Almost every song they made in the 70's were just out of this world. Check out their 70's stuff here on youtube with Uli and you'll know why so many guitarist of the 80's until now give them props. They were a guitar players band and Schenker/Roth were a guitar players, guitar player. With no airplay in the 70's. Legends!

  • I understand were your coming from man, I'm just a big Testament fan and I think they did this song a little better than the scorps, I like the scorps and I understand there place in History.

  • Not better than the original. Check the emotion in Uli Roths playing. Not quite here as much. This is good though.

  • this ones good but not as good as malmsteens cover

  • Malmsteens was too shreddy, and not really the right sound tbh.

  • 20 yrs ago, nobody was doing dat kind of stuff as li did,so it was ahead of its time,,,

  • 1977. 32 years ago.

  • i just love dis song...its way ahead of its tym...

  • It was written by The Scorpions 20+ Years ago.

It isn't ahead of it's time at all.

  • Believe me, it STILL is.

Just open your local Mtv Channel. ;-)

  • You must live in a country where Mtv actually plays music.

  • Written in 1977. 32 years ago. Way ahead of its time.

Check the original. Anyone else doing stuff like that?

  • No one is doing anything like it now, because they wouldn't dare try to top it. THAT is how good it is.

  • 32 years ago. 1977. You guys obviously haven't heard the 70's Scorps with Uli Roth.

  • nice tribute to the Scorps

  • Killer cover! Testament rules! So does Uli Jon Roth!

  • excellent cover of scorpions. way better then malmsteens. I still love scorpions original though

  • the best cover!!!...yngwie don't even come close

  • Testament>Yngwie

  • Let's see you do a better job then.

  • a better homage to Uli i'd say...better than Yngwie's by far.

  • you have a pritty fucking shit music taste then

  • and this is coming from a testament fan

  • You're a Testament fan but you don't like their music? Are you confused?

  • I am not a Testament fan.

    Guess who is confused.

  • Why are you commenting on a song when you don't like either band?

  • When did I say I didn't like Scorpions?

  • "sorry testament, but even scorpions wrote better music than you"

In English this means you prefer Scorpions but only to Testament.
