usually at a range shooting clays, you only load one shell (and not until immediately before you're going to shoot.

Thats strange. When I go to the range, people are loading and shooting both barrels. I usually load and use both barrles aswell. If I miss on the first shot, I fire my second. I love my Mossberg.

Are they shooting skeet or clays? I live around Kansas City and we go to a few ranges around here. It may just be local rule around here, but when we shoot clays, the gun is broken open and unloaded until you are going to take a turn. Then load one shell and shoot. Seems to be extremely save.

You have a moving target about three inches in diameter. Your gun is pretty heavy. You have never shot a shotgun before, so you don't know how much to lead your shot. Also, the recoil hurts like bitch the first time.
