  • The only reason I watch this...

is not because this useless inconsequential actor...

    is the topic of conversation...

but the history that we learn from this useless

    inconsequential actor.

  • Good gracious woman! I hope had good pregnancies, and wasn't sick the whole time. Imagine being sick the whole time.

  • I really like this show, I've watched a few of them now.

  • is he using Internet Explorer?...Is David Tennant using internet explorer?!

  • I attend the same school that David Tennant went to, Paisley Grammar School and I also live in the same area that he used to live, Ralston.

  • I can imagine it now archaeologists are dusting the skull "YES DAVE COME HERE I GOT A SKIN SAMPLE" then they test it "WHY THE FUCK IS DAVID TENNANT DEAD"

  • Did anybody else half expect him to go into Hamlet's soliloquy when he picked up the skull?

  • mcloed.....holy shit the time lords related to the highlander!!!!

  • @Arachnaphillic Just what I was thinking :)

  • I am from Glasgow and my dad went to university with him!!

  • I love how he explains that he doesn't have a key anymore. It's sweet.

  • Alas, poor Yorick; I knew him well, Horatio.

  • "THERE'S PEOPLES HEEDS!" I have never heard the Tennant sound more Scottish, it's beautiful :')

  • So hes a Timlord and he has Mcleod blood so dose that make him a Highlander too? I mean this is probably the real reason "The Doctor" killed off his race. There can be only one.

  • Imagine getting paid for cutting/touching David Tennant's beard...

  • oh god!!! his hair, his accent, his whole face, his doctorness! <3 <3 <3

  • This is tennant's audition for Hamlet..

  • Ha, love how David just reaches in and takes out a skull like it's nothing. I couldn't have done it so casually.

  • I admit I'm an archaeologist and I winced. David Tennant rocks, but for god's sake don't pick something up when its in situ!

  • Is it me, or does his parents' neighborhood look astonishingly like that of the set from 'Fear Her (Season 2, Episode 11)'?

  • Dang, Homeboy's Cute :)

  • David: "I probably shouldn't be touching this, should I?"

    Me: "NO!!1!" O_O

Wow, David. I don't know if you're awesome for that or if you just lost a couple of points in my eyes.

  • I thought of hamlet when he held the scull:)

    I love you David!

  • I am straight and I'm not ashamed to say...I love David Tennant.

  • He had to touch the skull lol so Doctor-ish of him.

  • if he really wanted to find out about his great great great great great grandparents why didnt he just jump in the tardis?

  • Not a archaeologist, but I yelled, No!

  • When he answers the door he's like "I'm David" and the guy's like "I know who you are!" :L

  • they'll find his fingerprints on the skulls and be like, HE REALLY IS A TIME TRAVELER!!!

  • @Sheldor37 hahaha! that has just made my day!

  • LMAO, just picking up the skull, as you do.

  • First of all, David is SO sexy :)

Secondly, I thought it was hilarious how he was like "Am I trampling on some holy burial ground here?" AFTER he'd picked up the skull lmao. Brilliant!

  • I could look up my highlander roots Skeen family...Skene/Skeen Macsgain

  • It would have been awesome if David had held the skull and declared,

"Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio; a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy; he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. Here hung those lips that I have kissed I know not how oft. Where be your gibes now?"

I bet he said that line in his heart!

David is my favorite Shakespearean actor from Scotland by way of Gallifrey!

  • NO SURRENDER DAVIE BOY!!

  • My dad loves all this genealogy stuff. He's traced our family back to a bunch of British nobility.

  • David like his skulls. lol. Didn't he use a real one for that scene in Hamlet?

  • They say a variation of my surname at 8:43! Brilliant!

  • @parsnip23x What is your surname?

  • Comment removed

  • My ancestors are from the Island of Mull too! Very cool.

  • I wonder if he ever wishes he was the doctor to find out what happend in his family.

  • Alas poor Yorik?

  • that was insane watching him pick up the skull. insane.

  • For some reason I take extreme pleasure in the fact that David will just step into an ancient grave and pick up a skull. He's not even remotely squeamish; instead he's actually quite giddy.....it makes me happy because that is EXACTLY how I would react hahaha

  • My mouth was full open when he picked up the skull like it was nothing! What a strange but yet funny man!

  • Around 6:10 he looks beautiful 'cause his hair's looking quite red!

He looks great like that! But I do secretly love gingers... haha

  • this is probably the funniest wdytya ep i've watched so far. this guy's hillarious...

  • I love the pronunciation of "heads" as "heeds"!

  • the same 'OOH LOOK AT THAT' like in Doctor Who, yeah!!!:D

  • Oh my god. David's family are so lovely, and he is so adorable and excitable :D

  • What the hell is he talking about? He's a 900 year old timelord. He's not even human. His ancestors have 2 hearts.

  • @junkyintel made me lol ;D

  • Don't know why, but even though this show delves deep into celebrities' pasts, my favourite part in every episode is when we get to meet the parents. There's just something so sweet about watching famous people coming home and sitting round the table with their mums and dads.

  • You just know there are archaeologists out there watching that part, screaming at the screen "Don't touch it!!!!"

  • @everyonelovesdee He's a time traveller. He points and laughs at archaeologists.

  • @ToTheIceKing ha, that's EXACTLY what I thought :)

  • @everyonelovesdee He's a time traveller. He points and laughs at archaeologists.

  • @everyonelovesdee What ? Should I stop watching now ????

  • @everyonelovesdee You don't even have to be an archaeologist to be thinking, "David, ye put the poor person's head down right now!"

  • i dont want you to worry about anything

  • am i that disgusting

  • YES! HE'S A MCLEOD! SUCKED IN MACKAY AND MACKENZIE! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! WE HAVE A TIMELORD AND THE ISLE OF SKY!

  • MCLEOD!!!!! 8:55

He's utterly adorable, I couldn't help but squeal.

  • I did know there is an island by Scotland and I have never heard of that place before. This is the second show that I saw David Tenneant on, "Doctor Who" being the first.

  • everytime I see this I feel so for him, its nearly 3 years since his mum died and to see her on this and how much he obviously loved her he must miss her so much.

  • Poltergeist at 8:06.

  • McLeod...the Highlander?

  • Am I the only one who was just a little disappointed at David's failed opportunity of going "Alas, poor Yorick"? ;D

  • He looks better without a beard v.v

  • The American version airs on NBC. It is one of the only decent shows on NBC. NBC has became horrible net. Last among the Big4 networks.

  • @schs1977 do you know if i can watch the american version online because i've missed some show.is so where?

  • @luname82 You may want to check hulu.com. I am an American living in Perth, Australia. My brother makes a DVD for me, so I watch it that way

  • It is interesting that David Tenant is on this show. In The United States has Amercian Actors looking up their ancestry which started this year. I saw David Tenant growing a beard on "Doctor Who Confidental".

  • "Whether you're, gonna go bald... am I gonna go bald?" LOL thanks for putting this up.

  • I've been trying to watch this series online for nearly 3 years, the British version. But was disallowed by the station's website. Glad these are finally being uploaded on YouTube. Thanks.

  • Is there a sortof englandspeople? I'd like to go and find my own family!

  • "Whether you're gonna go bald- am I gonna go bald?" Haha...

Aww his mom! She died in 2007 of cancer. =(

"There's people's heads!" Lol! And I love how he patted the skull after putting it down.

8:54 When he shouted "McLeod!" it reminded me of the when he shouted "Maiden!" on Doctor Who. xD

  • Two years pregnant per child? HA

  • I find these shows very interesting. Thank you for posting them for us all to see. I have history in England & Ireland but have no way of figuring it all out.

  • Watching this on tv made me want to look up my family history, I even took a collage course on it and I loved every minute of doing it. If only I had the help that the celebs get, but it was worth it.

  • the fact that he was touching this skulls brought him the role of Hamlet! Which he plays as always just brilliantly

  • @nowheresland

Actually, he was a Shakespearan actor long before the Doctor role.

  • yeah I know that =). But i ve seen an interview with the director and he seen him in the church and contacted David...and said sth like..." I ve seen ur audition for the role of hamlet...u get the job"

  • A long-time admirer of Tennant's acting abilities, it was catching him on the BBC family history series Who Do You Think You Are? that prompted Doran to make the first move in the casting game.

"He happened to go to a church in Northern Ireland during an excavation, and there among the planks on the floor was a skull. David picked it up, and I thought, 'That's like an audition for Hamlet.' In fact, I texted him that night and said, 'I saw your audition for Hamlet', and later we chatted."

  • My apologies - I sit corrected!

I looked it up and you are right - I couldn't believe that lol. I have copied the quote - although the kirk was on the Isle of Mull Scotland.

  • He looks a lot like his mother, same big brown eyes!

  • Hey he knew the perfect name to choose! TENnant, like the tenth doctor! Who knows? Perhaps that was a subconscious trigger in the minds of the casting/auditioners to choose him.

  • "There's people's heeds!" Oh, how beautifully Scottish of you, David! Love this.

  • Is it just me or does anyone else think of Hamlet when you see those skulls?

  • The scenery is beathtakingly beautiful.

  • i looks better with a little stubble but he's still HOT with a beard

  • Scottish , Irish , same ethnic group , same Celtic language...cousins.

  • I can understand David's enthusiasm b/c finding out where and whom you come from is amazing

  • Does anyone know what the music is at the begginning? it's really lovely

  • It's been composed for Who Do You Think You Are, probably. It's similar to the opening theme. I love it, too :)

  • lol and now we all have his reg number haha.... only joking! So not on he's left Dr Who, he was the only reason most of us watched it lol...

  • i beleive he was filming "recovery" amazingness!!!

  • What were they filming

  • Dont know but he is lovely

  • They were "Recovery". You must see it, it's a nice one :)

  • lol the way he just picks up that skull..prob something i would do than be like woops my bad. its cute.

  • *David picks up skull*

    "No, no, don't do that"

  • I wonder whose skull that was he just fibbled with XP

Is he allowed to do that btw?!

  • not a lot anyone could do if he wasnt supposed to! lol

jeez the beard doesnt suit him. it ages him

  • I really want the background music!!

  • 2:08. SOOOOO CUTE!

  • Really saddened to hear about his mother's death she seemed like such a lovely person. What an aweful thingto happen to a family.

  • I love how he just hops into the hole and picks up a skull, he's brilliant~

  • I found that incredibly disrespectful and foolish.

  • How so.

  • Disrespectful because it's in a church and it's someone's grave, and foolish because (1) he just jumped in and disturbed an archaeological site and (2) he picked up a skull without wearing gloves, exposing it to the oils in his skin and any contaminants on his hands.

BUT - thank you for simply asking the question and not flaming me! I appreciate the courtesy.

  • Yeah, okay. I'm not religious, but I can appreciate that you are, so I'm sorry if I offended you. And I can see what you mean from an archaeological point of view.

  • Well I don't see the person whom that skull belonged to complaining

there are far more worse things that can be done

the fact that they are their and have permission doesn't really come to mind?

  • Just because they have permission to be "there" in the church does not give him permission to be jumping into and disturbing old graves. And the fact that he SAYS "I probably shouldn't be touching this" would seem to be an indication that he did not have prior permission to be jumping in and playing with someone's skull.

  • @Avenderz He's like its just a skull you know and the other guy oh yea its a skull nothing unusual. Go ahead take one home. Yeaaaaaaaaaaa right

  • @Avenderz apparently a guy in the RSC saw this episode and thats how he kinda knew Tennat would be right for Hamlet bcos of the skull thing. That is not a lie look it up

  • I nearly died when I heard his real name is McDonald. It makes him family!!

  • I love him with or without the beard. What can I say? I guess I just love him.

I feel for him about his mum, as I have lost a parent, my dad, to cancer also.

    God bless them both xx

  • aw bless. his mum died a year ago. :(. i love seeing famous people being normal lol.

  • oh no shame she seems so nice poor david

  • "THERE'S PEOPLES' HEIDS!"

I am proud to be from Glasgow.

  • I've been to Scotland (May 2009) and the island of Mull and Iona. We just drove through Mull to get to Iona. But the bit on the ferry with the Lighthouse! oh yes, I've been on the ferry and went passed that very lighthouse. Scotland really is the most gorgeous country in the world I think.

    Okay, gushing over with.

(He actually picked up the skull though!)

Can't wait to see Hamlet on dvd. Sometime soon. :)

  • I agree, Scotland is stunning, esp. Mull. I've been to loads of different parts and Mull is my favourite along with Inverness.

  • OMG I can believe he picked the f***ing scull up - David you don't do that!!!

  • He looks better without the beard...

  • he reminds me of richard hammond

  • Comment removed

  • "Am I gonna go bald?"

    "No. Certainly not today."

    LOL

  • Am I truly the only one who thinks the beard suits him?!! ! I think he looks fantastic! Which is VERY odd, as in general, I DON'T like beards and staches.... but oh... scrumminess personified!!!! :)

  • I think he definitely looks older with the scruff, he loses that baby face that makes him look 25 :P

But I'm a fan of all David's looks. I mean, how could you not be? :P

  • this is so awesome, really makes me wonder about my great great grandparents...david tennant is so awesome! I love him

  • 5:52

why does he look like Wolverine with a beard?

  • dont love the beard, but david is so awesome nothing can wreck his amazing awsomeness of sheer awesomey awesome.

  • @petebj123

    the best doctor ever!!

  • Well, I really don´t know many people except me and my friends (we´re medical students), who want to touch a human skull!:-)

  • As an Archaeology student I was horrified when jumped down an picked the skull up! But then they didn't seal it off and if he hadn't he might not have played Hamlet! lol proper welcome home, home made apple pie and a cuppa, lovely!

  • Oh, I'll just step in in here, no questions asked, and just pick up someone's skull. What the hell was that?

  • And we're very grateful for that aren't we? XD

  • @sunheartgirl It is gave us John Barrowman too

Wouldn't mind some of that apple pie!!! ;-P

  • i hadn't heard it before! "that skull moment got him the role of hamlet" ?? HOW??

  • Gregory doran who directs Hamlet at the rsc,saw this and rang David tennant and said i just saw your hamlet audition, they met for coffee, david decided to take the role and also said he fancied playing berowne in loves labours lost, and the rest as they say is history.1005 true heard it from gregory and david

  • Not keen on the beard, David!! Aww thats the skull moment when he got Hamlet!!

  • If he'd never picked up that skull, chanced are he'd never be Hamlet :)

  • They had to let us see his number plate on his car! IDIOTS! THeY COULDV'E COVERED IT OUT!
