  • Ah, I love how this sounds! My mum loves this hymn, too, so I'll have to let her have a listen at it sometime. Even if I could figure out how to play it myself, my singing just isn't very good, haha! Lovely job! It's upbeat while still maintaining the original tune. I have to say I'm a sucker for the old hymns staying the same, but it sounds more friendly and happy this way, which I think is how the song SHOULD be sang! Thank you for sharing!

  • @CorporealPatronus Thanks for your detailed comments.

  • did not understand why the Lenin's tomb is in the backround...

  • @peligraso I thought he might enjoy being sung to.

  • @KenMiddletonUkulele well his spirit will feel the rest then :)

  • Oooh! Country Ken! Great energy, Ken! :-) X

  • @ruth7784 It's a great old hymn tune.

  • Howdy cowboy! You sound really sweet doing that swinging style of that well loved classic Jesus song! I love it very much. You look fabulous in that checked shirt too. All that's missing is a hat.

  • @idrnoel Ha. Thanks for watching, Dylan.

  • That sounds great Ken, when I am just 'noodling' as you call it I am always amazed at how many hymn tunes I know ,and can pick out straight away. I suppose its because the younger you are when you learn them the more they stick.

Green screen looks great too :)

  • @UnluckyMum Thanks Caroline. I suppose playing ukulele in a restricted area in Red Square is a bit hard to believe.

  • Great hymn, enjoyed the singing, but missed the sprightly sound of your usual tenors...... Don't know how your hands and head remember the differnt chord formations!

  • @MrEricgal I play largely by intuition. I just feel my way through the song. It's a bit like driving a car.

  • You have a country flare going on with your vocal. maybe the baritone's influence? I liked the various stylish flares you put in this. You are really fine here!

  • @waterdog226 Thanks Lynda. It's hard to sing this song without a country feel.

  • I like it very much, Ken.

    Paolo

  • @fasterthanbolt Thank you, Paolo.

  • I'm not a big fan of baritone ukes, but I like the sound of yours. Sounds very good. And as always, great performance, Ken!

  • @thesebinextdoor Hi Sebi. No, I don't usually like baritones either. This one is fun to play though.

  • " Leonid Bezhnev and his cronies are watching me from the platform above"...

If they are watching you at all, it's from the abyss below...

    Lovely playing

    Greetings from Poland

  • @Mrsdls77 Haha. Very true.

  • Lovely Ken, thanks for posting.

I've toyed with the idea of building a baritone for my grandson (who is a 13 yo guitar player with leaning difficulties) to try and interest him in ukes. Think this has made up my mind. :)

  • @TheWildlifeStudio Baritones are an acquired taste but a lot of fun. And much more portable than a guitar.

  • Nice one Ken, a sweet mix of light and shade, thanks.

  • @camsuke I try to put contrasts into everything I record. Thanks for noticing.

  • I like that Brittish Twang, your a man of many talents. Thanks for singing one of my faviorts. ... Floyd A.

  • @floydsuke One of my favourites too. Thanks for watching, Floyd.

  • Thanks for the posting, and the view of the "other" Moscow! I am glad you kept the baritone tuning. I love my Pono baritone and I am so happy I work on learning the DGBE chording, it has helped me transfer those tabs to the GCEA uke when it fits my voice and tone better. I think it has something to do with tuning in 4ths; it's just fun to have the challenge of the baritone, plus it is a beautiful ukulele.

  • @IdahoLeLe Thanks. yes, I don't really see the point of tuning a baritone differently. I agree, it sounds much better with DGBE tuning. I may at some point restring it with dGBE re-entrant tuning though.

  • I really enjoyed hearing this! That uke sounds very nice.

  • @pfrogner I believe it is one of the best baritones around.

  • Have you spent anytime in newcastle UL this last year?

I am now saving for a new toy.

Nice one ken - enjoyed that and i don't do hymns!

    S

  • @StubyStubyDoo Thanks Stew.

  • Cool Ken -- Always nice to hear you. I do a blog for the baritone ukulele called Humble Baritonics and just posted your video. I look forward to seeing and posting your review. Jeff / Humble Uker

  • @HumbleUker Hopefully I will do the review video next, just before I head out for NAMM.

I just checked out your baritone site. Superb. Really excellent and thanks for all the work you do for the uke community.

  • It looks big on you Ken, try it with the Aquila GCEA strings to n let me know what ya think, that's how I have mine set up =•}

  • @JChoneybell No, I need to keep it as a baritone, JC. I will hardly ever use it but it will be needed for displays.

  • very very nice, where are you?the wrighting in the back looks russian.

  • @rustler540 It says, "LENIN". It is on his tomb in Red Square.

  • Nice one Ken! I'm not a huge fan of baritones myself, but it sounds good.

  • @BaronK69 I don't like baritones either.

  • you're great!

  • @Koolgit Thanks for watching.

  • Great song and your usual high standard of playing, Ken. The ukulele sounds great, I am looking forward to your review!

  • @emjenic Thanks, I'll try and get it online before NAMM.
