I'm sorry for you, although you cannot honestly blame god for only the bad things and not give credit for the good. I promise you if your grandfather was suffering I don't think he would have had a problem with God taking him to a better place. This also could have your chance to truly connect with God, instead of blaming and pushing him away. but non-the-less I am sorry for your loss.
Study of the Therapeutic Effects of Intercessory Prayer (STEP) in cardiac bypass patients: a multicenter randomized trial of uncertainty and certainty of receiving intercessory prayer.
-Mind/Body Medical Institute, Dpt of Medicine, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Ctr, Harvard Med School, Boston, MA
Conclusions:
Intercessory prayer itself had no effect on complication-free recovery from CABG, but certainty of receiving intercessory prayer was associated with a higher incidence of complications.
Prayer only exists because it can't be falsified scientifically. Whatever you're praying for, it would be more practical and time efficient to try and do it yourself, and take the credit if you achieve it because God has no involvement.
You mean . . . Rock works in mysterious ways, just like God? Or does it work in ways that are not distinguishable from its total absence . . . just like God?
One pair of hands actually helping is worth more than a million pairs of hands clasped in prayer. Prayer is an excuse to stay comfortably at home while feeling like you are helping others. Prayer is nearly always a substitute for getting involved. Or, in the case of praying for the sick, a substitute for common sense. Prayer with fasting is often effective, if you don't cheat on the fasting and if what you are praying for is weight loss! If you want to help, unfold your hands and get involved!
I've been religious all my life. I pray to the lord Jesus to cure my sister of cancer she died. I pray lord for a promotion, I was denied. I pray the lord for protection and I got into an accident where I lost my car. I go to church every Sunday and Thursday; now by cab since I lost my car, I help the poor, give tithe to the church, participate in church activities and love the lord with my heart. What am I doing wrong?
Prayers won't do shit. I prayed for my grandfather when he had suffered a stroke and was in the hospital. He died just a few days later :,(

Did you know that if you go to the river and pick up a rock
you can bring that rock home and pray to it every day?
It's true!
And it always answers your prayers!
Mind you, sometimes the answer will be YES,
sometimes it will be NO,
and sometimes it will be WAIT,
but it will always answer your prayer.
Just like God.
Just exactly like God.

I lost my leg in an accident. I closed my eyes and prayed really, really hard and it grew back.
I have photos of my restored leg as proof.
Prayer works.
