  • Years ago, drum shop owner Frank Ippolito gave me one of Louis' cracked K Zildjians. We cut the crack out and what a sweet sounding cymbal. Lost my head one day and sold it to drummer friend Joe Corsello.

  • I can hardly wait ! Louis hayes is coming to Jimmy Maks,PDX on April 11/11.

Alan Jones/Dan Balmer opening. It's going to be a great night !

  • ZAWINUUUUUL!

  • Louis Hayes + Sam Jones = BOUNCE

  • It's spelt Adderley, for fu*ks sake. Sorry for being an ass but you were asking for it.

  • Had the honor of meeting Mr. Hayes at Cafe Amrita in NYC last year. Brilliant drummer a very down-to-earth, funny guy.

  • yeah but it's Nat Adderly, not Charles Lloyd

  • @albo8686 yeah, but charles lloyd plays along in some other songs in the same set

  • On fire!!!!

  • I think it's Joe Zawinul and i think i can make the difference !!

  • Video is great! But the title is incorrect. It's Louis Hayes in the UK with Cannonball Adderly, Nat Adderly, Vic Feldman (great Brit piano player), and Sam Jones. Cannonball & Nat 'discovered' Wes Montgomery & brought him to the attention of Riverside Records - & maybe they also discovered Vic Feldman in England & brought him to the U.S. where he played with Louis Hayes on Wes Montgomery's great album 'Movin' Along' .

  • @adeduction You are incorrect, my friend. This IS Joe Zawinul, not Victor Feldman.

  • @tadd1 I stand corrected. I made a 'deduction' & you corrected it with a 'fact' my friend.

  • I guess they playing "Bohemia after dark" by Oscar Pettiford.

  • love it!

  • Brilliant..!!.......Amazing how drummers of those years could do so much with their relatively basic kit....nowadays, they seem to need 35 different tom-toms....and an arsenal of cymbals...many thanks..!!

  • @dixjazz

Yes, indeed . . . they put so much heart into their playing --- and while their talent was just so in YOUR FACE [and deservedly so] --- their level of humility was that much greater. It's always a pleasure, for me, to see these B/W videos --- they're simple yet so artistic. As for today's drummers --- well, like you said --- they are what they play [35 different tom toms].

  • @dixjazz Louis Hayes is still playing, that's the funny part. I saw him in October and he's still just as talented and, strangely, doesn't look too much older.

  • wow, thanks alot for this....just when i thought i was startin to sound good on the drums...ah well, back to the drawing board!!!
