I loved this song from the first time I heard it around 1973 - Chris and his band used to do the rounds in the pubs and clubs in the north east of England back then and I first heard it live when he played Philmores club in Saltburn.

The thing I never understood was that he never broke into the top 10 of the charts with this lovely song, and then Elkie Brooks released it and got to number 2 in the charts - it wasn't a bad attempt but nowhere near as good as this - weird!

It got to number two on the charts in the US in 1978, it was only in the UK where it only got to 30!

March 4th is Chris's birthday. He is on tour and will be in Belgrade, Serbia, for his birthday. I envy all of you in Europe who are able to see him on his current tour. How I wish that I could get away to see him in concert in Newcastle on April 2 or April 3!
