  • lol i love this, The Andrew Sisters arent too bad singing The Supremes hits, and the Supremes, it was all Flo on this one

  • The Andrews Sisters sound a mess covering the Supremes songs.

  • The Supremes simply outclass the Andrews Sisters who look and perform like circus clowns in this clip.

  • Florence is BEASTIN it! She BALLIN!

  • FLORENCE HAD A BETTER VOICE THAN DIANA!

  • Is anyone actually watching the video. Diana didn't jump in front of Flo. That was part of the act. Watch Flo as she stepped back before Diana even stepped up. Mary was smiling throughout the entire act, not just when Diana stepped in front. Sheesh, some people just try to look for what's not even there. This is a classic act of two eras. One of the WWII era, and the other of the Vietnam era. Enjoy the music without the bickering.

  • @terrybigteekemp No she did jump in front of her Florence stepped back to get out of the way and Mary did turn to the side to laught! Are you actually wating the video? Watch carefully please!

  • which year was this?

  • Why do you people don't stop with these stupid comments on who's outshining who. Enjoy the music and the performance: this hate-and-love comments are a sign of immaturity. Nobody can exactly know what was thei relationship and what happened is non of our business. What's important is their legacy and their music. Anyway, thank you so very much for posting this incredible document, a great moment of television!

  • @patroch

I totally agree but people are always going to be judgmental because that is their short coming.

  • that was fun!

    pattie's still alive! yay!

    this was Flo's moment. :)

  • Spectacular video. No words can describe it. Thanks.

  • omg, the supremes AND the andrews sisters together? youtube is heaven :*)

  • You don't understand. Whoever posted this video, thank you! Thank you so much! This made my heart so happy :)

  • Oooh. The Andrews Sisters on "Where did our love go?".

THAT was fun. Especially when they did Sammy's song.

  • If you look closly it looks like diane is pushin flo but sence flo isnt doin anything diane is doin it harder

  • Exactly!...it just bothers me because i remember when i was in a male singing group. I was not the lead singer...but I remember looking at the others every now and again..just out of plain chemistry and if someone was just sounding so good helping me flow with the harmonies...id look at them with a smile.

  • did you see the looks maxine was giving her sisters. did you see maxine push her sisters. she was trying to hog the limelight. did you see that nasty look sammy gave the andrew sisters. did you see one of the andrew sisters miss her cue. sound pathetic?? well that's what florence's fans are starting to sound like.

  • @wonderboyjoy THE SUPREMES WOULD HAVE BEEN ONE BORING GROUP IF DIANA ROSS WAS NOT THAT SPUNKY THEATRICAL SKINNY GIRL SHE WAS.

  • @JustRudo

KUDOS TO YOU! MUCH LOVE TO YOU FOR HAVING GREAT SENSE. I WISH OTHERS WERE AS PERCEPTIVE.

  • @wonderboyjoy

YOU ARE WONDERFUL WONDERBOY FOR BRINGING UP THAT EXAMPLE.

  • Would yall shut up..Diana is looking at Flo because she is having fun. It's healthy competition when you are harmonizing with someone..and Diana was eating it up and was having so much fun. Diana is naturally giddy like that..it's just who she is, take it or leave it. -- THE LEGENDARY ANDREW SISTERS WERE SO CUTE! THE SUPREMES SOUNDED AMAZING!

  • @JustRudo i agree. how florence's fans try to make something out of nothing. maybe diana was trying to reassure florence who might have chucked a wobbly or held them up as she often did before they went on. the looks diana gave could have meant anything. having fun is definitely likely.

  • @wonderboyjoy

WONDERFUL POST WONDERBOY! KEEP IT COMING, TEACH!

  • It look like flos in lead and and I could olny notice Diana

  • @nicholasstiles12

TRUE, THEIR SHARED LEADS WHEN PERFORMING OR RECORDING BUT IT WAS EVIDENT THAT DIANA WAS THE OVERALL LEAD SINGER OF THE GROUP.

  • I wish this was clearer so I could get a better look at the gorgeous dresses the Supremes are wearing

  • So nice to see Flo sing lead for once. You can tell Diana didn't like it, she was lunging at that microphone like a largemouth bass going for a worm on a hook!

  • The Andrews, in my opinion, sang the best, no matter how old, or how long they had been performing, because they really didn't have to try that hard to sing, it just came as easy as speaking for them.

  • @andrewssisterfan

IT'S NOT A MATTER OF WHO SANG BEST. THEY BOTH HAVE TWO DISTINCT STYLES. THE SUPREMES WERE A YOUNGER GROUP AND MORE ENERGETIC THEN THE ANDREW SISTER'S WHO WERE OLDER AND MORE SETTLED IN THEIR PERFORMANCE.

  • I love Maxene's facial expressions. She's like "I got this "

  • who care who was trying to outdo who all that matters is that they were all perfect together...i loved it its a one of a kind right here...thank you StuartLou!!

  • sang flo...lol

  • GOOOOOOOOOO FLOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Diana didn't upstage you in this one, baby (though she tried her DAMNEDEST!!!) The voice said it all....

  • @OrmondTheMagnificent

ITS PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO MAKE FRIENDS LOOK LIKE THEY ARE ENEMIES. NO ONE WAS TRYING TO OUT DO ANYONE ELSE. AND IF SHE WAS, THEN THAT IS WHAT BEING A LEADER IS ALL ABOUT. GETTING YOUR POINT ACROSS. DIANA WAS AND REMAINED THE ALL TRUE LEAD SINGER OF THE GROUP.

  • They had so much fun back n the days auh man I wish I could see this in color

  • when was this?

  • The Andrews sisters were too"boogie woogie"not bad but sort of out of touch.

  • I love this because you can REALLY hear Florence.

  • Also, I would like to add; that The Supremes "Changed" an ENTIRE GENERATION!!! In 1959 when the Supremes formed;"Negroes" weren't even considered "Citizens"(They couldn't stay at White Hotels or eat at White Restaurants etc.)And "very few" Blacks were allowed on Television. The Supremes changed that and "Kicked" down Doors for other Black People in Entertainment. A Jewish woman once told Mary Wilson of the Supremes: I don't let my children watch Negroes on T.V.- except for the Supremes..."

  • Dude this was a great moment in music. I mean it was about 20 years difference between the two groups? Or maybe more. I love music and I am adding this to my favorites. This is music history. They both were amazing.

  • This is hilarious... It seems both the Andrews Sisters' hits and the Supremes' hits would be popular in ANY time...

  • Flo was a star who whose light was just not meant to shine; Diana was the entertainer; Flo was the real STAR! RIP Flo.

  • Well, The Andrews Sisters, as I previously stated, were not at the Prime of Life, nor the pinnacle of their careers in 1965- which why ONLY a MORON would dare compare them with The Supremes! And you weren't exactly "Color Blind" when mentioning The Old Girls competitors from the 1940s? AND as far as knowledge about HOLLYWOODS GOLDEN YEARS 1929-1949? I HAVE FORGOTTEN MORE THAN YOUR PEA BRAIN WILL EVER KNOW! Finally:YOU can talk about Whatever you WISH-BUT NOT WITH ME!!!

  • @zodiolestes In my opinion the Andrew Sisters did very well when singing with the Supremes. I mean, The andrew sisters looked more relaxed then the Supremes. To me this is music history. Both were talented.

  • @tommy2chips I understand what you are saying and I AGREE! If you will read further back you will find that I am "The Sole Champion of the Andrews Sisters' while "Everyone" else was putting them down! It was only "after" the illustrious @mkrobinson Hijacked my comments and washed my face with them that I got defensive. Where was @mkrobinson when The Andrews Sisters were "on the pan"? Where was all of his INSIGHTFUL INFORMATION then? I'm the one that opened the barn door and he STAMPEDED ME!!!

  • @tommy2chips

THEY WERE OLDER AND MORE EXPERIENCED THEN THE SUPREMES. THE SUPREMES WERE A YOUNGER GROUP USED TO SINGING A DIFFERENT STYLE OF MUSIC. GIVE THEM CREDIT.

  • Its REALLY No Contest; The Supremes were in their Prime, while the Andrews Sisters were about 15 years past theirs... They hadn't had a Hit since 1948! And Yes the Andrews Girls DID Ham It UP singing their rendition of the Supremes songs-But was there ANY other way for them to play it? Even though they DID keep a straight face during "Stop! In the Name of Love" but it went downhill from there... PLus Rock-n-Roll was still in its infancy; being ten years old in 1965-NO ADULT TOOK IT SERIOUS!

  • @zodiolestes - Actually, the Andrews Sisters last #1 hit was in 1950, not 1948 (they had NINE #1s in all). In all, they had just under 50 top 10 hits during their almost 20 year career.

  • @mkrobinson95 Thanx for the correction! I'll have to brush up on my "Hit Parade" knowledge. But it was MUCH Easier for The Andrews Sisters because they REALLY had NO COMPETTITION in the 1940s with their Movie contract(1940-1947) and all. (The Boswell Sisters came alot earlier, around 1930 and The McGuire Sisters were ushered in during the advent of Rock-n-Roll in the mid-1950s.) I'm just responding to an interview with Maxine:" By 1948, everything seemed to catch up with us at once!"...

  • @zodiolestes - For competition, are you only comparing them to other female *groups*? They weren't in competition with groups only ... there were many popular female singers during that time ... Betty Hutton, Marion Hutton, Doris Day, Judy Garland, Peggy Lee, Dinah Shore, Jo Stafford, Rosemary Clooney, Helen O'Connell, Vera Lynn, Margaret Whiting, Kay Starr, Deanna Durbin, Helen Forrest, Kate Smith, Frances Langford, Jane Powell ... to name a few!

  • @mkrobinson95 Oh my, yes, I was referring to Groups! Yes, I am familiar with all of those Nostalgic Names from the Golden Era of Jazz. But you DID Leave out IMPORTANT TRAILBLAZERS such as Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Ethel Waters, Valaida Snow, and THE GREAT BILLIE HOLIDAY! But since my Forte is in Rock-n-Roll/ R&B Music, AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE SUPREMES? Lets stick to the subject at hand and lay off THE DINOSAUR MUSIC of the 1930s&1940s???

  • 1st – This video is not only featuring the Supremes, but the Andrews Sisters as well. 2nd - I didn’t leave out anyone; I named several & said they were only a "few" of top performers from that era (which was the era of Big Band/Popular music, not Jazz necessarily as far as the names I mentioned, which were to compare to the Andrews Sisters "competition" during that time). 3rd - I am commenting here as a guest same as you - please don't dictate what I can talk about - you didn't post this video.

  • @mkrobinson95 Was the Andrews Sisters' last #1 "I Can Dream, Can't I"?

  • @shmuli9 - "I Wanna Be Loved" was their last #1 hit in 1950 ... "I Can Dream, Can't I?" was their 2nd to last #1 (1949)

  • @mkrobinson95 I'll have to search YouTube for that; I've never even heard of 'I Wanna Be Loved'...

  • The Andrew Sisters sound like their mocking the Supremes' songs.

  • @behdoc Patty Andrews:" Eww Eww Eww Ewww Eww Baby Love!" Lol Hell Naw!

  • @behdoc- they're not. They're just singing them more closely in their own style, which belonged to another era.

  • THE SUPREMES SOUND REALLY GOOD

  • They ALL sound Good. The Supremes sound good, as Flo is in the middle (clsoer to the mich) you can hear her a little more on certain parts & she is taking advantage of it too. U can tell those girls had rivalry for Flo did not let Mary in closer & she did not edge in c;loser; yet Diana did a little when she was too far away at certain times, & that's when Flo got purposely louder. If Diana would do that & took the middle, then she would be called a BITCH BY BLACK FOLKS. HMMM, BUT Flo..u go girl

  • Wow , the Andrew sisters shoulda just stopped in the '40s , they can't touch Florence & The Supremes

  • wouuuu!

  • admittedly saying .. the supremes have the better voices

without diminishing the value of the andrews'

  • once again Flo over powered dian.

  • They sure had a lot of fun! =)

This footage is such a rarity! Thank you so much for posting!

  • Oh, good damn grief!!!! Diana Ross was, is, and ALWAYS WILL BE THE TALENTED ONE OF THE SUPREMES!!!! Without her God given, natural-born talent, The Supremes would have gone NOWHERE!! Diana made The Supremes the most famous and successful female group of all time!! You people keep making these dumb statements about Florence Ballard's(and Mary's) significance relative to the success of The Supremes. Everything then and since proves you wrong!!DIANA ROSS IS THE SUPREMES!!!!!

  • @crut5 Florence was amazing

  • @dmustard11 FINE!!!!

  • Look at that jump at 5:03, especially Diana Ross. This is a wonderful piece of footage, with both the Supremes and the Andrews Sisters. Florence really stands out here.

  • The Supremes could not have possibly done the Andrews sister's harmonies without Florence's soprano...seriously

  • @19MenACE14

The Supremes could not have done the Andrew Sister's harmonies without any two members of the Supremes it is 3 part harmony. What's the big deal about Florence Ballard? She was replaceable and that is why Cindy Birdsong took her place.

  • I think they all sound great--I think, vocally, the Supremes were way better than have ever been given credit for. I especially like the warmth in Mary's voice--it really blends Diana and Flos voices together nicely.

  • Diana looks ridiculous working overtime trying to outshine Flo, but you can tell she is desperate knowing that this time she can't. See how repeatedly keeps looking at Flo. But FLO looks regal and so dignified. This is the type of music that suited her voice to a T. This is FLO's moment sorry.

  • @kingnando SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kingnando

Notice how she jumps right in front of Flo.. even Mary starts laughing. LOL!

  • @kingnando I thought I was the only one who noticed her trying to outshine Flo... it is so silly because all of them bought something special to the group. You could clearly see Diana struggling to outsing Flo when they did Bier Mir Bist Du Shoen

  • @tummielvr

Diana wasn't trying to outshine Flo. She was trying to make sure that her voice was projecting in the microphone. If you have ever sung in a trio with one microphone, then you would understand positioning. And what is wrong with a little competition? It takes place in any group, whether it be music or three friends trying to outshine each other. It is natural. Diana is the tops and still is. Accept it! You have no other choice.

  • @kingnando

Remember, at this time, Diana had led the group into stardom having already recorded a string of hits, so I don't know what you are talking about. Florence Ballard was dysfunctional and Diana wasn't trying to compete with that. She had already won and that is why she was the lead singer of the group.

  • @kingnando

Look at 1:28 when Diana jumps in front of Flo. Mary turns to the side to hide her laughter. LOL!

  • WOW! This is so good! What a great find - thanks so MUCH for posting this! :)

  • I'm THE Andrews fan...however, my favorite part is that the microphone picked up Florence's voice so well. What a great voice Flo had. Many thanks for posting!

  • @LaVerne37 Yeah, this is Flo's moment and Diana cannot take it away from her, go Flo you sing it girl. Lol

Flo is totally shining here and rightly so! xx

  • Literally the most AWESOME video on youtube! Thanks so much for posting!

  • wow, they really knew how to entertain back then! Awesome!

  • Thanks for posting!the supremes sound great and wonderful.love Flo's voice .

  • That was great, but what the hell was wrong with Sammy's teeth?

  • This is an old Kinescope. Makes people's teeth look like that. That's why!!

  • The Supremes & The Andrew Sisters were the best female vocal groups in history.

  • Maybe a Kennedy Center Honors producer gets this original film and incorporates it in a Supremes award segment... I know they gave the award to Diana Ross, but I think the legacy of her Supremes hits has been ignored, no?

  • Wow, thanks for posting! Great to hear the songs interpreted in their special styles.

  • okay so it appears that the big Supreme voice here WAS Florence! I Love Diana's voice mind you but the lead voice on these songs was Flo! They sound AWESOME!
