Of course, all trains depart from platform 2 at Seaford. Platform 2 is the only platform, and has been the only platform for over 10 years, since the Seaford signal box was closed and the bay platform removed. This was before the introduction of announcements here, yet all announcements call for platform 2!
Shame you didn't see the "secret" Newhaven Marine station, which is just behind the signal box at Newhaven Harbour, along with some old sidings which are still used sometimes and a GF.
There's something very special about that line! I must admit that I wondered where the turn off at Newhaven Harbour went to - looked like a dead end. Can't they slap a preservation order on the signalbox?
The signal box at Seaford was demolished in the mid-1990's. It was only part time, open in the morning and evening, in the days that there was a "depot" based at Seaford, so they could stable trains there overnight and provide more trains early and late. The bay platform was removed and now it's fully controlled from Newhaven Harbour signal box. The Marine station is a glorified siding, along with (I think) two others. There were also sidings right along the beach, but now gone.....
Yeah that is my area:-) It's good you got it now as the semaphores are on borrowed time, there was also an idea to get rid of the Town box. I can't imagine my line with out the semaphores and how terrible the town will look without the box!
Excellent video Bob, and great to see an outsiders view of the area..seen with fresh eyes...5* Bob
