Did you complete the 61 miles. That a hell of a distance! I've been riding nearly 6 months and the best I've achieved so far on my 36er is about 12miles. Gotta get out more ans try harder !
Lol I'm prompted to say, a journey of 61miles starts with the first rotation of the pedals :) This year I planned to ride 100 miles and was in training for this with several 50 mile rides. I know numerous unicyclists who ride much further than this - but I dont know many my age riding these distances! Just for your interest I have a Nimbus 36 with Moment cranks and a KH Freeride seat and T bar handle.
I have a KH36 with freeride seat but no handle bar. What are the benefits of a handlebar. I have only been riding for 6months and mostly on a KH20 but some on the 36. After about 1 hour of riding on the road my crutch tells, ENOUGH, time to stop.... Maybe padded bike pants would help, maybe just more time in the saddle or perhaps a handle bar helps in some way or perhaps I am just lacking the cast iron crutch that seems to be required :p
Using a handle helps to increase the leverage you can apply for balance by pulling up or pushing down on the handle. Adjustable handles allow the hands and arms to be placed further away from the seat in numerous positions for comfort.
Generally to go further for longer you should be able to ride whilst holding the seat or handle with both hands. This will enable you to relax your upper body and focus on using your lower body for cadence and mastering the unicycle ‘wobble’
Wow your dad is impressive to learn at 70. Unicycling is potentially dangerous if you fall (UPD) and injure yourself. I hope I have the ability / guts to do it when I'm 70!
Just started to learn this week, I can go about 4 meters without falling off, but I fail to mount without holding something, any advice? All the same, this video has inspired me to keep going as it is possible, just might take longer than I thought.
@Phlipification- my wife has just spent 4 weeks using a rail and last week she just road away from the rail and within a week she is doing free mounts and staying up for 100s of meters and she is addicted. . I'm 46 and it took me a week and both my teenage sons took tabout 2 hours. All I can say is keep at it and you we succeed. Its totally worth it.
