I was one of the soldiers guarding the equipment at the far right end of the bleachers. It was like everything happened in slow motion, and then the plane hit the woodline and exploded. The heat was unreal. I was about 200 meters closer to the explosion than the cameraman, and as we all turned and started running away from the flames, I heard a woman scream out that her husband was on the plane. I'll never forget that day.
the plane like fucking bounced haha and then .... LADIES AND GENTLEMAN PLEASE STAY IN YOUR BLEACHRS. uhm no lets go run into a disentegrated plane XD haha
I worked on that plane less than two weeks earlier, did a wing bolt retorque on it. Trust me the wings didn't fall off the fuselage was destroyed which left nothing of what was left of the wings to attach to. I also was part of the crash recovery team that responded. Az long as it's been I'll never forged one second of it.
In this particular case, airplanes don't kill people, a bad pilot does. C-130s are not inherently disaster prone. Anyone who flew them as long as I did would know that. Props and bleed air were the only systems that needed extra caution during operation.
I was there! I was so little at the time- 5- that i just remember my mom crying and everyone running. The smoke was so thick and black that I thought we were running from the smoke. They put us on a bus and sent us to another show and i remember my mom and grandma just wanting to go home. I will never forget being there and how upsetting it was for everyone.
Amazing. I have never seen the actual footage. I was on the crew at "Green Ramp, Pope AFB" preparing that C-130 the night before. We were assigned to be "ON" the aircraft for the deployment. We got sent back to the barracks after pulling an all "night-er". I could have been on that plane! WOW!
