It's astonishing to think that you guys across the pond get such a fantastic turnout numerically at your events, reenactment here in the UK holds a social stigma that makes it very difficult to recruit members.
If our schools didn't preach guilt with regards to British history then perhaps we could put on such a show for the public.
@bobbannerman A social stigma? Really? We had a UK guy over here who was a proud memeber of the order of the sealed knot IIRC, an English Civil War unit--can't recall if Royalist or ROundhead :-)
no, he is an hessian fron the Hessen-Hanau "Erbprinz"Regiment. This regiment has the same Uniform as the prussian Regiment Nr. 12 (the Erbprinz was the Chief of this two Regiments)
This is my unit. The 1NJV is just one of many LOYALIST units that fought in the American War for Independence. The loyalist units ranks were comprised of Colonists that remained loyal to the crown. Not too far fetched to have "American" accents.
I don't know how many rounds were fired at Monmouth, but at Bunker Hill, the Americans (or rebels, depending on who was talking) fired 75,000 rounds before they ran out of ammo, and they killed 1,000 British. Anyway, the idea was not to kill as many people as you could; victory was determined by who was driven from the field.
This was 2008. Saturday was pretty unsatisfying (for our unit, anyway), but Sunday was awesome, except that my musket flint fell out, and I didn't have my glasses handy to fix it, so I "died" at the hands of a Hessian unit and spent most of the battle hanging out under a tree. It was fun to watch my husband and friends, though.

Really excellent work!!! Is this the Battle of Monmouth?

No Bayonets and no ramrods since a few fellows left their ramrods in the guns and fired, sending the ramrods like spears thru the air.

If they do teach guilt, it's a shame.

I'd bet, the last motion of "order firelocks" is wrong, as it did not exist in the manual of arms....

excellent video :D although, i didn't quite get the middle-eastern music. they're fighting a revolutionary war battle - not a crusade lol
TheHammar117 3 years ago
I wouldn't call that MidEastern. It's pretty legit common country-type stressful background music.
