Also They have watchdog for heart implants, breast implants, abortions, lap band diets, and medication and etc. but not to cochlear implants? I believe they had lawsuits but they sweep it under the rug! and keep going to earn money.
Wow, it makes sense because the selling of CI's is a "money issue" and that's why we have a second wave of oralism. Deafhood must fight for Deaf's rights! Sigh!!!! It's not easy to say it. At the beginning when they were selling heart implants, after while they got strict with law because of money issues that lead to Dr. scams. So they now are careful- but not for CI's ! since they started from 1982 to today no watchdogs and lawsuits to increase FDA's control of CI's??!!!?
Excellent presentation and review. I've read the info quite a few times but to see it presented in ASL is more powerful. Thanks fir doing this! will favorite it for future reference as it's precious.
wish someone would make a professional short ASL video about ICED Milan Congress 1880
just made a 2nd vlog with FACTS of ICED Milan. some of the quotes r just so priceless. we have many ancestors' shoulders to stand on - we just gotta keep finding them and dusting them off and putting them into the light of day. Thanks for ur note.
Good framing of the Milan declaration and its results. Unfortunately, language bigotry as public policy still occurs... not just to Deaf people, but speakers of other languages too.
Sadly true that language bigotry still exists. Some languages have completely vanished from the earth due to the annihilation of their speakers or their speakers' culture. There are some pockets of positive progress though - Gaelic which was heavily oppressed is making a comeback and the UN paid oodles of $ to have important documents printed in Gaelic
McGregor was champs - really a great man, orator, advocate etc it is amazing that Deaf folks have been living under the adverse impact of oralism (oral / aural only onslaught) since 1880 and now many say the 2nd wave is upon us
do do??
thanks for the comments - always enjoy your thoughts
Good vlog! I aware of this history and shared with my students about this. Right now, we are facing Milan 1880 movement or method due to cochlear implanted. We have to keep fighting against those who are trying to remove our nature and first language. Thanks for sharing with us. I enjoyed it!
A great presentation of facts. If you come to Vancouver, I urge you to be a presenter in one of our Deaf community's activities during the ICED week!

Thanks Patti! I enjoyed your vlogs as well.
Yeah, the second wave of oralism. I shared with my hearing students from Intro to Deaf Community class about it and they don't like it. Interesting.
