  • Hi 1chuckell,

I have sent you a link to the foam I used in the video, it also shows the size of the block. All I do is cut a slice from it with a sharp knife which is much better than using scissors..

Have a Happy New Year and all the best for 2012...Davie

  • That looks great!

  • Spectacular

  • really good vidoe , cheers.

  • best spent gnat video on youtube

  • Hi Davie,

I was wondering, could I use deer hair to form a detached body? I've seen it in some patterns and liked how it looked. Great fly by the way!

    David (CommissarNorval)

  • Hi David (CommissarNorval),

Yes, give it a go as deer hair is very good for detached bodies, glad you liked the fly...

  • This is an excellent fly. Where did you get the badger hackle from. Can't find it anywhere in Indiana help please. Thanks Dan

  • Hi Danmaljada85,

The exact cape that you are looking for is a Metz Grade 2 Cock Saddle Silver Badger which I thought would be easy to find. I have looked for you on the internet but with no results I'm sorry to say, if I find one I'll let you know...

    All the best Davie

  • Davie where can I buy some of this badger hackle like this. None in Indiana. Help

  • Great fly, Davie. Your videos are the best and youre my best teacher, please keep those videos coming. Thank you!

  • Excelent job.I live in serbia. We have small mayfly bug. And,I'm interesting wath size of huk you chose when tying small mayfly.meny thenks.

  • Hi cigaizika,

A small hook with a wide gape like a shrimp or grub would work well as long as the wire of the hook is fine, the hook I use most here is a Kamazan B160 if you can buy them in Serbia.

    Thankyou for the kind comments...

    All the best Davie

  • Would Salmon hit this?

  • Hi TheDarzea,

I wouldn't say no as this fly is more for targeting fish that are rising but you never know as I have saw many Salmon taking the oddest fly..

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Mike,

I'm sorry I don't know of anyone that sells the Bug-Bond in Ireland but I will send you the link to the website that I bought the resin from as they are the suppliers to all the companies that sell it as far as I believe..

    All the best Davie

  • That truley is a great pattern, but I can't find ethi-foam anywhere.

  • Hi youngoutdoorsman2001,

We can buy the etha foam in blocks over here but if you can go to a craft shop you will find foamtastic which is used by kids at school. It is the right thickness and also you will find it in many useful colours..

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail

I've learned more from you watching these fly tying techniques than taking local classes for weeks on end. Thanks for the help. Do you happen to have a recipe for a Yellow Sally? I've not been capable of finding a local tyer who has a good one. Seems to me that its rather subjective as to how this fly is put together. Look forward to your next post!!!

    Michael

  • Hi Michael,(zoeycat77)

I'm sorry it's one of those flies that we don't see many of..I'm glad you like the other flies though....

    All the best Davie

  • The fly is awesome! It looks really perfect!

Is that a UV light? Does it help the glue to dry faster?

    Thanks for sharing!

    Kind regards,

    Kostis

  • Hi Kostis,

Yes it is a UV light and it sets the resin in seconds I can easily say that it's the best I've used, I have lots of ideas which will make my tying better and quicker..

I'm glad you liked the fly...

    All the best Davie

  • whot a belter of a fly davie, like the way you prepare the foam body, sits a lot better on the hook by the looks of it, will tie a few up and see what they turn out like, regards, and happy wrappings, davey, antrim.

  • Hi Davie

That is a great looking fly. Were do you get you foam that thick or what is it called?

And that is a great trick with the bug bond.

    Thanks for the Great Videos

    Chance

  • Hi Chance,

The blocks are sold by a company called Veniards who are a wholesaler and supply many of the tackle shops with their materials...

    Pablo
