He is not in the wrong lane though he should not have cut into the white lane hatching on the roundabout. He was right to stay right on the exit as the road narrows. Vehicles must afford cyclists the same room as a car when overtaking - it's there in the highway code. He's wrong to hit/tap/touch the van - that's bloody stupid. If I were driving and heard a sudden bang I would brake too just in case I had hit and was dragging him. He didn't slam on the brakes so behave. Yes I drive and I ride.

From one experienced cyclist to another - you were completely within your rights to take the lane in this situation, anything else would've put you in danger. The road was narrow and there was no room for vehicles to overtake you safely. The impatience displayed by some motorists is utterly appalling. @sven202 Some people have no choice, our cities are far too clogged up with traffic for everyone to ditch the bike and use a car or public transport (which in the UK is ridiculously expensive)...and, other than the expletives used by this rider, a bike is emission free and thus reduces the amounts of poisonous gasses shagging the lungs of city dwellers.
From comming off the roundabout you could have easily pulled to the side of the road and let the van past you. You deliberately stayed in the middle of the road to block the van from passing you hence - you caused the road rage and deserved what you got.

Can I point out, coming off the roundabout the road narrowed to allow for car parking spaces? This will be why the cyclist remains in the middle of the lane. @FatherPatOphelia cars do not have the given right to use the roads, they have to pay insurance to drive. Bikes, horses, carriages, etc. they all have the GIVEN right to drive. Which means that they have to yield to bikers NO MATTER what.

I drive over 70000 miles a year and there are some wanker cyclists on the road, i also ride over 100 miles a week and there's some wanker drivers on the road. We live in an impolite world where everyone is in far too much of a hurry. Always get to the end of my journey chiled and relaxed whatever's happened. Never seen a video from a cyclist praising a driver or visa versa, We just all need to chil out a little

From comming off the roundabout you could have easily pulled to the side of the road and let the van past you. You deliberately stayed in the middle of the road to block the van from passing you hence - you caused the road rage and deserved what you got.
I ride a bike all day so I am not a motorist talking - I am a fellow biker. STAY OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.

Sometimes it's better just to block the road until you have a clear path. If he had done as u suggested, he would have got cut up by the van or subsequent vehicles.

1) Van reacts late and then cuts you up on narrow part of road due to oncoming trafic. Result = you are crushed to death on side of road.
2) Van overtakes you, but now car behind van attempts also. Result = you are hit or again, crushed on side of road.
Safe action = Protect your space until you are comfortable. FUCK WHITE VAN DRIVERS.

Can I point out, coming off the roundabout the road narrowed to allow for car parking spaces? This will be why the cyclist remains in the middle of the lane. Also, there's no law saying cyclists should stay to the left. That's just a common courtesy. Cyclists have all the same rights to be there as any other vehicle. The van driver is a pure idiot. And even if the cyclist did piss him off, that's no way to act. He needs to grow up.
