It always amazes me how different this style of belly dance is from tribal fusion. It's hard to believe tribal fusion derived from this. (I don't mean it in a bad way, it's just the way everything is executed is so different.)
You are an Amazing Teacher! Im so excited to get in a Belly Dance class sometime in the future. Till then Im going to keep on practicing your awesome vids!
Try doing this shimmy on one leg... put all your weight on your left leg, lift and drop the right hip, repeat for 16 counts then repeat on the right leg. This will help your hips become familiar with the move and create some muscle memory. Let me know your progress! Have fun!
Your videos are awesome, Cassiopeia! Thank you so much, I already learned a lot from you, but I just can't do this one :( It makes me go crazy, but I just don't understand how what you're doing. It looks so stupid when I try..
oh thank you so much for all your videos! i just started a few months ago with a college belly dance club, and i love it, but we don't really work on technique and there is not studio nearby. so, these have been very helpful. thank you! :)
i love u...i just adore u...and ur previous comment was so funny...do u create all these variations or are they really from belly dance...its so creative...so smart...so beautiful...i wish u wld come and perform in singapore
You get em Cassiopeia! LOL This totally made me laugh because I know my dance instructor would be the same way and me and her are not related! You are an inspiration! Your videos help me get a visual on some moves I'm not getting when I can't see my teacher. This is not one I've learned yet but it looks like fun!
thanx so much for posting this!! and all of your vids,, also the music is beautiful ,,watching these has taught me alot, please do not take the vids away!!!
Hips go back and forth in the washing machine shimmy. The movement comes from the side of the hips. Change all your weight to one leg while doing the shimmy, you will feel where the movement comes from.
I have always loved belly dancing, but i have no rythmn whatsoever. maybe someday, i will say that your videos are very easy to follow for someone who's never danced a day in her life!
The hips are moving both up and down. You can move your hips either up or down on the beat for this video. However, for the weight changes, you will see that I am dropping the unweighted hip. When I do the locks, the hips are locking up. HTH!
Love the song! Sidi Mansour by Saber Al Rubai!

How much are we supposed to bend our knees??
VAMPIRICROCKSTAR 2 years ago
Enough to keep the knees unlocked but not so much that there is too much stress on your quads and knees.

How is this shimmy different form the Turkish shimmy? o.O I was just wondering.
otherwheregirl 4 years ago
They could be the same. I am not familiar with a Turkish shimmy.

They are really bellydance moves. I create some of the moves, but I am sure they are not original. I would love to come to Singapore!

i think ur hips do go up and down, right? i heard u saying "back and forth"... are you saying hips should or should not go back and forth?
Also, where do the movement come? from the bottom of the butts or from the legs?
thanks a lot for posting and answering~~~

How are you moving your hips? up? I didn't quite catch what came before the word "hips", right after the obligatory basic stance spiel.
