  • can you do she makes my day, i would love to hear the bassline!!

  • Very well done. One of my all time favorite songs. Our band is working this up and I can't wait until we play it.

  • Great bass line. You are correct that Bob Babbit played the original.

  • Terrific! This is a great song if you listen primarily to Robert's vocals, and then it's an equally great but different song if you focus on the bass work. Now I wish I could play bass!

  • Just so perfect, watched you time and time again. well done.

  • @richypike Thanks!

  • @subersibo

Fantastic job! I have watched this over and over and enjoy it more each time. Still learning to play bass but it inspires me to keep at it. Thanks for this awesome post.

  • Hey bro that was magical, is it in standard tuning? also please hook me up with the tab for how you play it :)

  • @PureMetalMadness Yeah, standard tuning. Sorry, didn't use tabs for this.

  • Wow! Beautiful!!!!!

  • Nice job there man!

I absolutely love this bass line. She Makes My Day (another of RP's) is great too.

  • Fantastic bassline, fantastic years and you are so brilliant...

  • Don't just play notes.

  • Pls post a vid or something I can learn from. Show me how to do it right. I'm always open to learning stuff from great players!

  • Great job with this piece, I got a Pandora Px5D for myself and a PX4D as a gift for my son on the way..

  • Great Version! Check out my singing version! Ever tried a Fender Bass before?

  • Umm, this is a Fender bass. Japanese Precision but it's long gone.

  • hello

you used as a phrase trainer?

  • I use a KORG Pandora PX4B which has a phrase trainer. You can record parts from songs and slow it down and loop it. Makes learning basslines easier.

  • Haven't heard this song before, good job I'm gonna' try to learn it today.

  • Hello.

In fact a tablature of this title? Or then made you a slow video, because I do not manage to see that you made!

    It is rès played well!

  • Sorry, I don't use tabs for the stuff I do. I do have a phrase trainer which makes learning basslines much easier.

  • Wow! That was a good job! 5 stars for you on this one!

  • Thanks! pls read my response on top of this.

  • great playing i realy would like them tabs too such a great bassline

  • do you by chance have tabs for this song

  • Hi, I don't use tabs. I have a Pandora PX4B which has a phrase trainer. It can loop a part and play it as slow as 50% w/o changing the pitch! A worthwhile investment!

  • Mate, just gorgeous effortless technique, really beautifull to watch.

Dunno about nothing beating the "P", great bass no doubt, but my Yammy TRB4 sounds bloody magnificent too!!

  • nothing beats playing on a precission bass! ;D

  • jamerson would agree!

  • Nice work. You do Babbit such justice. How do you sit still through this? This is one of my favorite basslines. It's so smooth and sexy. Kudos.

  • merci pour cette video, explicite à souhait, grand merci.

  • Sweet contribution, thanks! BOb Babbit was an ex prowrestler? Too Crazy! Glad he stuck to the bass, he's part of history in music.

  • Good job. The notes are right. But you should focus on keeping that thumb on the back of the neck and fretting with your fingertips and use less pressure. That combination will increase your sustain as well as accuracy and you will be able to fret 2-3 times as fast as you are right now.

    Again, good job.

  • Hey, thanks! I do keep my thumb at the back of the neck at all times but do not do any severe bending of the wrist to fret notes to avoid CTS. I play with low action so I don't really exert a lot of pressure fretting. I used to wear my bass really high and it was easier to fret using the fingertips but then a lot of stress was put on my right hand.

  • Very accurate. One thing I couldn't figure out on the original is that muted pop kind of sound. As if he pops the strings but then filters the high freqs. Do u hae a clue?

  • Hi, I'm not sure but maybe the bass was strung with flatwound strings & the tone control rolled off. Also, I think Babbitt plays with a heavy touch like many old school bassists like Jamerson so sometimes, depending on the attack, there's a little pop in the sound.

  • That pop tone comes from playing very hard and very accurate. Also, playing a P helps. I play a Jazz and even with the bridge pickup, I could never get that tone. It sounds awesome too, but not as authentic like this cat's.

  • Hey, do you know where I could find the tabs for this?

  • I don't know if there are tabs for this song. I use my handy dandy Korg Pandora to slow things down and loop phrases to learn basslines.

  • TheSaintHooker, All the notes are right there in your head. Listen. Feel. Rinse and repeat. Sometimes figuring it out for yourself is better because not only do you learn what to do but also what not to do. I believe in you my fellow bottom dweller. Go low and go often.

  • Who was the bassplayer on the original recording?

  • Bob Babbitt, I think. he's one of Motown's legendary Funk Bros and an ex-pro wrestler!

  • Ah, that makes sense, I was thinking it was James Jamerson but I think you are right. Thanks, that was really bugging me.

  • Great choice, this is one of my favorites also. Sounds great, keep the bass lines coming. Do you know any classic Rick James or Erykah Badu?

  • only 1 by rick james(superfreak), not that familiar with erikah badu although i listened to some of her stuff before
