  • Is it Beethoven which is heard at the firt time? :))

  • Wow am i high?

  • I loved the bounce at the end. And if you hadn't told about the hair tie, I don't think anyone would have noticed.

  • Xriste mou!

Nomizw den tha ftasw pote s'auto to epipedo...

  • Dear Valentina,

    You are my hero!!!

As a pianist, I adore your touch, dynamics and perfectionism. I've never seen such a talented pianist as you. Well done.

  • very, very nice. That's a goood idea to post recording videos like that!

  • Finally another performance breakthrough after early Pogorelich. Almost thought it's not going to happen ever.

    Simply sensational!

Looking forward to listen to your playing on 28th of May in Rotterdam!

    All the best to you!

    Aleks

  • obviously great as always

  • my dream is sitting next to her while she's playing. I hope I won't get hit though..

  • nothing higher than the aspect of complexity in gods cultural creation!

  • Comment removed

  • bravo!!!!!

  • Just astonishing.

Such a talent is beyond words.

We're so lucky and grateful to watch this.

    Thank you.

  • what was the last songs name?

  • @ADUM300

It's the 3rd momvement of the "Appasionata"-Sonata by Beethoven

  • whats the name of the first music?

  • @RenanGarciaMoura

It's the 1st movement of the "Appasionata"-Sonata by Beethoven.

  • Você é a melhor pianista do mundo, Valentina!!!

Repito comentário postado em outro vídeo: você quase transcende o gênero humano!!!

E, ao final, brinda-nos com seu olhar!!!

    BRAVÍSSIMA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • where in hannover is that?

  • how is it possible that her hands can move that fast?

  • faith can move mountains

  • inspiration every time i hear her it makes me practice

  • why is the piano not catching on FIRE..i sure am..

  • This video needed a foot camera. Recording studios are like porn for sound. They're pitch black except for 1 light on the keyboard. Some musicians play completely nude in the studio. Whatever it takes to get the right sound goes.

  • huh? Oo

  • Amazing finale!!! xD Your the best pianist in the world!!!!!! I'm glad you've a youtube channel ;-)

  • best pianist from times of tori amos ive heard

  • Lol, she looks at the camera at the very end.

  • Never heard such power--what a woman!!!!! and artist !!!!!!!!

  • dont forget its a recording in one the top notch recording studios for classical music. your not listening to a clear sound of lisitsa here. still shes impressive :)

  • @TheRealDjiN Please tell me which studio. I'm in an argument right now with another youtuber who claims she can't get a recording contract and that her previous labels were crap. Thanks

  • whats the last piece called?

  • beethoven apposionata last mvmt

  • sorry...rather odd question here..but..are you wearing shoes in this video?

It looks as if you aren't :P

  • Love Her

  • This is very frustrating. Valentina is such a fantastic musician, but she tends to play too fast. Even when she plays a slower tempo piece like the Schubert impromptu 143 #3 one senses that she's in a high gear. The "Appassionata" (last piece here) is way too fast! There is a video of her playing the complete movement and the tempo is only slightly fast.. But this is crazy. What's the point of this. Oh, I wish she would slow down. There's so much to praise about her playing.

  • I prefer the appassionata faster I think it brings out the best in it. She is obviously at a level where if she plays something too quickly then she means to, it is her style. As Rubenstein said - it's important to maintain your own style. It's not for every one but I enjoy it, there is something exhilarating in speed. xXx

  • she likes playing fast... its just her style...

  • how man times must i paste in this comment before it sticks?!

  • She really makes this piano come alive! Really she does!

  • Ah ah the funny face at the end xD

Very nice vid, and by the way, what is the name of the last piece please! I can't remember

  • Liszt Totentanz

  • You are so fantastic. I have never heard any play like you. Thank you for that.

    Best regards //Peter

  • bravo! bravo! bravo!

  • Ah, this video was great! My favorite part was from 0:00 to 2:57

  • Which piece is she playing at 0:28 ?

  • Its the second movement of Beethoven's Appassionata Sonata, Op. 57

  • Thanks!

  • The first song is the 3rd movement of the Appassionata Sonata. =D

  • the first one ;)

  • The first piece is the 1st movement, the last is the 3rd movement xXx

  • The HD takes longer for me to load, but it's definitely worth the wait.

  • Dear Valentina,

Since this recording session is in Hannover, may I and the rest of your admirers conclude that Hilary finally raised a stink at DG and got you recording for them, at last?

  • Valentina Lisitsa = MY IDOL :)

she is sooooooooo amazing at piano! I can't even believe it. All her performances are so flawless

  • Valentina,you are fantastic

  • Tanz auf dem Klavier mit allen Fazetten

    *****************

    Friedhelm

  • lol ending !!!! so funny !!

  • She always seems to drive a race car...

  • Woaah, it sounds great !

Can someone please tell me what the 2nd, 4th and 5th pieces are ?

  • The second is the continue of the first piece, the 5th is the Totentanz for solo piano by Liszt

  • Thanks. Did'n realized it was the 2nd mov.

  • just the type of playing i like, sounds awesome

  • Who's knocking at the door at 2:10? That CAN'T be the piano, can it??

    Just curious. Nice clips, V.

  • amazing pianist!! bravo!!

  • Wow~~~ SHe's amazing!!!!!! Best I've seen!

  • Best part is 2:07 It sounds like she's literally tearing up the keyboard. Only she could make that sound good.

  • Listen to Andre Watts' performance of this piece with orchestra. It's even more amazing.

  • Could be Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Grieg Schumann or Ravel... I think Mrs Lisitsa can get every mood of every of these compositors, that's just incredible... You play it so faithfully and with such a sensibility that even showman like Kissin or Lang Lang can get... Have a long life, you're immortal!

  • I am DYING to hear her play live!!! I wish she'd come to Los Angeles. I just saw Kissin last week. He was amazing! But Valentina is my fave!!!

  • E 'of the greatest contemporary pianists!!!

  • Valentina, you're my instant favorite, beside Blechacz! And also recording technique gives outstanding results. Sound engineers did great job, too. :-)

  • Recorded sound is as 'state of the ar't as it gets nowadays and that is what this superb pianist deserves to better present her art to a wider public.

Congratulations to the recording engineer(s) for his or her expertise and art for this difficult and often neglected profession.

I wonder what was the recording venue?

  • Pleeeeeeeeeease come to Brazil.

  • In june 2009 she will play 2 days in Sao Paulo, 1 day in Rio, with Hilary Hahn. Read in the schedule of her official site.

  • Those guys in Hannover really know their stuff. Sound quality is nothing short of outstanding, not to mention the quality of the intrument.

  • hi, sorry if this comment is repeated, but my computer isnt working corectly:

i am studying piano very seriously and wandering what excercises/ etudes you practice to build up basic hand technique as well as wrist and alexander (released tension) technique.

    Thanks!

  • penguinshin: (1)Chopin etudes (always study them slowly and with complete relaxation before increasing tempo). (2) Brahms's 51 exercises (get an edition that includes the unpublished ones) for the entire playing mechanism. (3) Daily practice of scales in double sixths and double thirds (incl. chromatic scales). (4) Most importantly, Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier. Recall Wilhelm Backhaus, who said, "my technique [one of the best of the last 100 years] is built on scales and Bach."

  • wow. this is the first time i've seen her in casual clothes... haha

  • yeah , and it ain't pretty LOL

I did not realize the clothes had to be silent ....and no playing with hair :-) Hence the oversized shirt and an improvised hair tie from a sock - oh gosh ! i cant believe I admitted to it !!!

  • who are you recording with? this is amazing

  • stop this , Valentina, you are lovlier than ever, how can you think you are less pretty than in concert, i am so gratefull for this recording, do n o t hide your natural b e a u t y , PLEASE go on that way.

    please.....!

  • HMMM I think you look really pretty ;)

  • I think you look really pretty

  • aren't there any regular hair ties?....I have some if you need.:P lol

  • @ValentinaLisitsa don' t worry:P it does't really matter what you wear....you still look gorgeous!!

  • @ValentinaLisitsa Do you think it would be possible to get the whole Thalberg's Op 63 on youtube? I know there is one version of it, but this has such a wonderful quality...

  • @ValentinaLisitsa She has worked hard to become who she is now!! She is worthy of her success.

  • forgot to say: the very best is your face as you end the piece - that s but beautyful - this astonishment, this "wondering", t h i s expression !!!!!

  • Yes. Equally the first time I've seen her playing bare-footed or my eye has tricked me. Amazing!

  • What song is that at 1:06 ?

  • It is Thalberg's composition, which we find complete in her channel, in other place. ( Well, we found once, I couldn't localise it now ). I don't remember the name of the composition, but it Thalberg's one.

  • Thalberg's Grand Fantasy Op. 63 =)

    Valentina plays it completely, enjoy!

  • at the and was one of the first times i actualy seen her intire face lol.

  • Oh My!!!

  • Ok, She is reaaly brilliant, BUT (artistcally speaking) where is the interviews? we, 'pianomusicfans' need more and newer idols we just want hear her voice, opinions, how did she get that technic, is she human? btw, why not play some contemporary composers? is that a personal choice or.....

    Thanks

  • Valentina did give a brief (and wickedly funny) interview on BBC Radio 3 - and yes, I would like their Black & Pink DVD concept taken much further. I'd like a mix of intros with her pianist/musician husband Alexei presenting and Valentina explaining the intent of pieces and her approaches, on a set of ALL the piano music she knows. Each performance would be preceded in that way. John Lill once did that for his Chopin on TV & it was intriguing. Self & pianist wife thought it was great.

  • I saw you perform this program and very much enjoyed! I wonder if this means we can expect a new recording or DVD :)

  • Bravo , merci pour ce patchwork de morceaux (Beethoven, Liszt etc..), et merci à (aux)l'ingénieur(s) du son pour la très bonne prise de son.

    Bonne Année

Et à bientôt pour de nouveau morceau ?

  • The only piece I recognize is the Totentanz... I would like to know the name of the rest please anyone =).

  • 1st clip is the 1st mov of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No 23, Op 57

2nd clip is the 2nd mov of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No 23, Op 57

3rd clip is the final movement of Schumann's Kinderszenen, Op 15

4th clip is Thalberg's Op 63 - Fantasia on Rossini's Barber or Seville

    5th clip is the Totentanz

6th clip is the 3rd mov of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No 23, Op 57

  • well done!,... btw I like the look at the end :)

  • Valentina, Is there any possibility to see a video of you playing the moonligh sonata 3rd movement?? it would be awesome

  • You are beautiful!! I don't see CDs of you in Brazil too!

  • how many hours each day do you study? please, come to buenos aires, see your hands it is like see a wonderful ballerina dancing........wonderful

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Magnifico regalo de reyes magos...

    un cordial saludo señora Valentina.

  • GRandismo!!!

    que coincidencia de Dia!

  • Dearest Valentina,

Is there any possibility of you learning the Goldberg Variations and posting them on YouTube? One of many Admirers

  • OMG

i just hope she will come someday to chile.. is my only desire ...

a lot of greetings from chile

  • Is that for an audio CD project?

  • Yes

  • If you get that complete set of the Beethoven sonatas recorded and released without the support of a major label that would have to be a first in the history of recorded music!

  • Dear miss Valentina Lisitsa,

Why don't we see any CD's of you in Holland !

  • Fantastic technique, and passionate interpretation. Plus -- the filmography and audio recording itself is fantastic. Such great stuff coming on youtube -- this is up among the cream of the crop. Great stuff!

  • is it just me or is she getting better and better every new video!

  • *_* Fantastic! My favorite pianist! The order from the video is wonderful, you have beautiful eyes, looking very sweet, I make a strong heart beat when you listen to and a long shiver pervades my back ... I love you valentina

  • I cannot wait to see you perform. You're an inspiration!

  • Que beleza!!

  • T_T Simply I Love you

    From Italy

  • Eheh, uno dei tanti! =)

  • amazing...

  • I love the quality!

  • Simply amazing

  • amazing as always

  • wow she is actually recording barefeet!! i simply love her style

  • This quality (sound and picture) does better justice to Valentina's brilliance - it is like being in the room.

I count myself as one of the most privileged people on the planet, having sat on Valentina's left side watching her do these and other pieces as she ran through her program before the London Wigmore concert :)

  • Lol, love the ending.

  • Beautiful...

  • What an awesome privilege to see the HD quality online. I confess to listening far less to 'mere' audio recordings now that YouTube has brought brilliant artists before our eyes in every musical genre. Watching Valentina's hands surely magnifies the joy in listening.

  • I agree - this is the way forward; I would like to buy a set of DVDs from Valentina of everything she knows. They'd stay on my PC & I'd go round & round them. See my comment on another of her videos - "I just have to watch her hands", said the Polish woman in the audience .. Valentina is also visually appealing at the piano - wife Doreen describes her as like a large, graceful swan :)

  • Your talent on the piano could save the economy.

  • Hilarious!

  • inspirational!

  • Amazing! How long have you been playing for?

  • amazing as always!
