Cows are curious animals. The weren't chasing the Koala, they were following it. It was interesting to them, so they followed it to get a better look. Cows aren't predators, where running can trigger an attack.
They're probably all like, "Hey, hold on fella, lemme hold one o' you and feed you a leaf! Koala bears, they're so fucking cute! Why do they have to be so far away from me? We need to ship a few over and I will apprehend one and hold him - alright - and pet him on the back of his head."

i had cows do this to me up at a farm, i think they are very curious about everything,
all they do is see & eat grass all day, imagine living in a field all your life and all of sudden having a little koala walk in front you lol
