  • jamaican accent is soooo nice.. And the lady in the documentary is beautiful:)

  • Great video

  • It's so sad because her parents refused to teach her Punjabi, now she lives in a Punjabi community in Canada, but feels alone and she can't even teach us her language.

  • I enjoyed this video or really taught me about my grandmother's culture. She's the last pure blooded Indian in the family.

  • Why should Hindus assimilate? Christianity is a religion forced upon the slaves by Europeans. Why would the blacks want to force their slave masters religion on Hindu people. Try that in Fiji it will not work.

  • Fiji has many Hindu temples and Hindu is one of the official languages of Fiji.

  • Maybe it was good Hindi people left instead of being mistreated by the horrible caste system of India. My grand father is a North Indian Brahmin and as a kid I never understood why he would not associate with other Indians. I did not learn until I was older why he did this, but this caste system is ingrained into the psyche of alot of Hindi people and it is practiced in every Hindu community around the world. I remember my grand father having a great hate for Pakistani.

  • 18:46 looks looks like my grand dad :)

  • Hi

I am collecting all Hindu Temple and Hindu organizations details. If you know any, please email me their details.

    Thanks and Regards

    somasekhar

  • PLEASE HINDUS DON'T CONVERT TO OTHERS, TRY TO RESPECT YOURSELF ...IF YOU DON'T SHOW RESPECT YOURSELF NO ONE WILL RESPECT YOU...OTHERS WILL TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU. BORN IN HINDU OR BEING AS TRULY HINDU IT IS DEPEND ON GOOD LUCK. DON'T ACCEPT INDIAN SOCITY, BUT YOU HAVE TO BELIVE YOUR OWN TRUTH HERITAGE WHICH IS OLDEST THAN ALL OTHERS.

  • that guy is not from guyana

  • Is the narrator speaking Hindi? Because it sounds German-ish to me.

  • Also my friend's mom told me when they left Indonesia (Java) to go to Surinam they were told they could go back, but the boats never went back so they had to stay there. I'm guessing it was the same for Indians who left India.

  • @Sood81 I usually ran into problems like that when I was in college. Alot of East Indian professors would always ask me about my name. Because it identified me as a Punjabi North Indian. Alot of mixed race people with Hindu names cannot escape this, even in the stores when they card me for I.D my Hindu name gives me away right away and than the other Hindus interrogate me about where I'm from. It gets a annoying sometimes. I just tell them I'm a Fijian/Indian dam it. My nation is Fiji.

  • @DIJV79 There isn't any cast system in the caribbean, at least not where I'm from. Your granddad probably hate pakistani's because they are muslim, it has nothing to do with the caste system.

  • @DIJV79 I know there are people who say they are from fiji but are actually from the caribbean, but don't want people to know:/

  • @Sood81 Fiji is deep in the South Pacific another world away from the Carribbean. I have never heard of this Fijians being from the Carribbean. To whole different cultures.

  • @DIJV79 I know where it is. I said they don't want people to know they are from the caribbean, so they tell people they are from Fiji because people look down on caribbeans.

  • Comment removed

  • @DIJV79 Please stop with the racists BS.

  • Are the Indians in India looking down on West-Indians or are the East-Indians who live in the West looking down on West-Indians? Because my mom went to India and no one looked down at her, they actually said she is Indian just like them. Somehow people change once they live in the West, it's just sad.

  • I am Sradhanand Ramsurrun, 58, a Hindu from the Indian Ocean island Mauritius and I would like to have contacts with other Hindus from the Carrebeans. My forefathers, as yours, came here as coolies and we are about 600,000 Hindus here. My mail address is ruchna@intnet.mu and I am on Facebook too. messages can be sent to this mobile number (230)7612701.

  • it;'s nice to see that the JA Independance Day parade is a lot more classier and geared more to the traditions and importance of the parade itself than the ones i see in the states and canada. it's not about halk naked women shaking their asses :/ i want to go back home!!

  • This video is about Jamaican Hindus. Why are Guyanese and Trini's arguing about India? Please people, focus!

  • Niceness.. Mi love see mi indian ppl enjoy themselves.. And unnuh see how we Indian Hindus nuh push we religion pon no one.. Unnuh battyman church man need fi stop push unnuh religion pon ppl.. Proud a mi Indian ppl , Jamaicans stan firm and bun out dem bad mind ppl.. One god mi sey Stop push wurd innah ppl mouth and stop knock mi bloodclawt door early a morning mi a Hindu !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of the best documentaries I have seen on the topic. It does justice to indo-caribbeans everywhere.

  • east indians dont like blacks i give it 2 more years race war will be in jamaica wake up jamaica send the new east indian home they want to take your land and to get green gard

  • @turnfootsherlock i am an east indian in jamaica n i can tell you u r wrong it is d white man wit d money n power dat want to take over d country

  • My great grandmother was one of those indentured servants who came to JA. Most intermarried and therefore are not regarded as Indian. The percentage of Jamaicans with Indian ancestry is higher than this documentary suggests, but I guess since we are not pure HIndi, we do not count!

  • proud of my indian background.

  • every jamaican consider himself as 1 ...only the upper class has this idea distinction..ask super cat what he think he is ..and he would say the Apachee..the real don dadda...jamaican first...

  • Is this a Surinamese documentary? The dutch sounds a little different than from the Netherlands.

  • I am Bangladeshi Hindu, I see my Jamaican Hindu. i am proud of it. Hindu is world oldest religion than any others. Hindu is true and survive past to future. Jhoy Hind!!!!!

  • @MsMohamed1 You mean like wealthy British people emigrating to other countries? More than 350,000 every year. Why leave their homeland eh? Your supposiitons are wanting. Yes many Indians left for promise of better living condiitons, but they were not aware that their living conditions and worse still their freedoms would be no better and probably worse than in India. It is only the subsequent generations whose life improved not the first immigrants.

  • @kumarsa108 and thank god. no way in hell i want to live in india....

  • @xplosivelilly er right thank you for your useless input. A bit like the Europeans increasingly not wanting Turks in the EU. Or for that matter in India no one would want you there anyway.

  • @kumarsa108 I'm very happy for my USELESS input. I dont relly care if they want me there or not. I'm a Trinidadian. 2/3 of India is just full of traditional backward idiots. I do recognize my Indian heritage but still I AM different from Indians. All new immigrants to the Caribbean had it hard. Even the white people somewhat even though they were treated the best. I thank god for the day my ancestors stepped on the Fatal Razak and came here.

  • @xplosivelilly well im happy that you are happy, even if I dont agree with you.

  • @kumarsa108 I don't get you...we are different from them. When i meet indians from india, it's totally different culture. They dont consider us indian anyway, they think of us as low caste peasants who deserted the motherland, even though most of us live way better than most indians in india today. I consider myself an Indo Trinidadian...not Indian.

  • @xplosivelilly ofcourse you are different, any people who lives in another place for generations will not be exactly the same just like the Quebecois and the French, they are not the same. You probably are the descendants of so-called low caste peasants, why else would better off people leave a country to work as slaves in all but name. Now your country of 1.3 million is doing ok for the time being and you can see the benefits. Yet i dont hold to your labelling of a vast population.

  • @xplosivelilly yeah i never knew that...i am black and my bf is indian and i was surprised when he told me east indians look down on west indians....i had nooo idea

  • @gtbebe east indians hate black people i went to india for my job they spit at me on the train wake up jamaica sent them home

  • @xplosivelilly so true !!!

  • @xplosivelilly Atlst I dont think in this way.I'm from India n belngs to Eastern UP region from where most of your ancestors migrated or forcibly brought to Caribbean islands.Whnevr I see such videos/news on internet,it gives me mix of feelings..some time full of joy n proud and some time causes misery, sorrow how those ppl got separated, forced to leave their motherland and how they survived of all these. It reminds me about our inability we couldn't do anything agnst brutal force.

  • @avinashchand19 some were forcibly braught to the caribbean, but most chose to leave just to seek a better life. What was the point staying in India and suffer from extreme cycle of poverty? We all love our motherland, but what i have a problem with is black people who think the caribbean belongs only to them! When i see the state of the subcontinent today, i'm very grateful my ancestors decided to come here.

  • @xplosivelilly U made ur point.its gud ur ancestors decided to cum here,at least for thr nxt genration. If u go back to ur root place n c ur parallel generation,u'll understand wat I mean.I'm in US far away from my place.I'm here for the same reason.Bt still I feel the agony n apathy being away frm motherland.I use to compare with the ppl who came to caribbean n I must admit they were brave. And same bravery is required if u want to be recognized n maintain ur identity in ur land.

  • @xplosivelilly we have the same problem in fiji wit the blks....its sad..300.000 pple left fiji from 1987 and still goin...i was a third genration over there..i feel like a gypsy...

  • @MrPrav76 Very true! I'm a Fijian/East Indian, my grandfather is a brahmin North Indian, but he was able to aquire land because he married a Fijian women. The laws in Fiji are very strict towards Hindus, but for some reason we still consider Fiji home and alot of Hindis want to return, but the Fijian govt is now a dictator ship and kick out all non-Fijians. But they will learn because Fiji cannot survive without the brain of the Indian.

  • @xplosivelilly thats soo true im from fiji is...now live in the states came here when i was real young...indians from india think that we r not indians or sumthing..they rather invite a white or russian guy in their house b4 they wud give us a chance..i really feel unwanted when im around them.. it doesnt matter to them even if i cud read and write hindi...i really try hard to be accepted from my people from the motherland but at end i feel like a gypsy...

  • @xplosivelilly its not like that, actually most of the ppl frm new gen dono about how ppl suffer 150 yrs back and now what they know abt indi-trnidad indian is through Cricket, but many are there who knows the history and care about that, infact i was always curious about indian who live there in WI, i always wanted to visit and see how indian live there, thanks to Internet now i know more aboyt u guys and i wish i i'll be there sometime .

  • it sounds racist mann..But Indian is racist in many ways. There are many people who are mean to people of other cultures within India. But not all are the same..Even in India, when people from North go South or vice versa, there is a lot of mistreatment.. I know of situations where dark skinned indians are often mistreated by the fairer skinned ones. I think its because Indian communities are very closely knit and some of us dont like change.Hope ur next visit to India is pleasant.

  • @xplosivelilly i no i went to india that place is hell on earth dont go there to drinkin water is brown and have salt just nasty plece

  • The indetured labourers in Jamaica originated from all over india they were either hindu or muslim. The majority being hindu, and the caste was dictated by the profession, whether you were a Farmer or a Doctor. No indian is better than another, and its what is in your heart that makes you a good person, not money. If any Indian believes that they are better than another, they are not a true indian.

  • barganing power typical indian have to haggle it in our blood

  • @MsMohamed1 half of the indians died from famine, hunger and disease and then was thrown overboard. Yeah i pretty shure after going trough that and still end up living i would want to take another chance and go back to india the same way only to get beaten by the british. either way you took it their lives were misery

  • @MsMohamed1 if i wasnt mistaken you started to insult me first by calling me an ASSHOLE. i never meant to offen anyone with my first comment. I have read many books about indentured servants and the west indies or may i say legal slaverey. From my understanding the british tricked our non english speaking and writing indians into going on a trip to work on a island not far off the coast of india to work for pay. Instead they were in the ocean for three months sailing to the west indies

  • @MsMohamed1 God bless you!!!!!!!!

  • Hello MsMohamed1, why are u calling me an "ASSHOLE" when i am only trying to bring peace why are u acting as if you are smarter than every one who comments on this video. its ok the greatest part of the mind is the spiritual mind and in that spiritual mind i can block ignorance as so Ram said. Say whatever you want and be as vulgar as you want after this because ur karma is determined by your positive or negative actions.

  • @MsMohamed1 Guyana: Indentured Labour and Race Relations(Despres 1967; Glasgow 1970; Green 1974 and Newman 1962)

There are many books - not only sites that demonstrate how the British deceived Indians into leaving after slavery being abolished(you are probably too dumb to read a book and obtain all information by watching videos online) Even Guyanese government site Guyana.org has articles on the subject

Stop saying you are Guyanese- you are obviously not born in my country of Guyana.

  • @MsMohamed1 Guyana: Indentured Labour and Race Relations(Despres 1967; Glasgow 1970; Green 1974 and Newman 1962)

There are many books - not only sites that demonstrate how the British re-invented slavery after being abolished in 1848 and deceived Indians into leaving( I understand you are probably too dumb to read a book and obtain all information by watching videos online)

Stop saying you are Guyanese- you are obviously not born in my country of Guyana.

  • @MsMohamed1 News Flash- Your INDIAN. Wake up? Not all Indians from India dislike West Indian people. This is like saying that all Muslims are stupid because you have the name Mohamed. The British didn't trick Indians into leaving? I didn't realize you were this dumb- there are numerous books and movies on the subject. You are unbelievably ignorant if you think Indians went to Guyana, Trinidad and Fiji by choice.

    Your a disgrace.

  • @MsMohamed1

Stop calling yourself Guyanese. You definitely were not born there.

  • @MsMohamed1 . You are being prejudice and downright racist against your own people!

Of course we identify with Trini's and Jamaicans- that has nothing do with your prejudice.

You complain about "those" people looking down on you-.aren't you doing the same thing?

I guess it makes you feel better by insulting the land of your forefathers.

Its because of degenerates like yourselves that Indian people from India look down on Guyanese. And its INDO-GUYANESE not Guyanese Indian you ignoramus.

  • @MsMohamed1 I am also 100% Guyanese when you refer to Indians as "those" people it only demonstrates your ignorance of history and degrading and insulting others is a sign of your prejudice. Do you think Indians went to Guyana by choice? They were tricked into going by the British..why don't you actually read history.

Where do you think curry comes from you fool? Yes our curry is different, but have you been to the Eastern part of India where Indians were taken from? its almost the same

  • I am also 100% Guyanese when you refer to Indians as "those" people it only demonstrates your absolute ignorance of history and degrading and insulting others is a sign of your prejudice. Do you think Indians went to Guyana by choice? They were tricked into going by the British......why don't you actually read up on history.

Where do you think curry comes from you fool? Yes our curry is different, but have you been to the Eastern part of India where Indians were taken from? its almost the same

  • @MsMohamed1

I am also an INDO-Guyanese. I am proud to be born in Guyana as well but you have to remember where you come from. You are originally from India...be proud.

  • @MsMohamed1

    INDO GUYANESE

you are originally from India...be proud.

  • WTF are these ISCKON people?, why can't they start Hindu schools over there and start educating them of what is meant to be Indian or Hindu.

  • @kallube1 i agree...peole should be allowed to keep their traditions, religious beliefs, and heritage alive.

  • i am an hindu jamaican and proud to be hindu but also very proud that i am from jamaica people just need to realize that indians are all around the world and some still follow tradition and culture to this very day but no matter what we should never diss a culture from different parts of the world because if it wasnt for culture this would have been a boring world to live in. god bless everyone !!!

  • Why is this guy so upset that Jamaicans born in Jamaica would listen to reggae music?

  • Comment removed

  • Pt 1. Dem nah get it. Di reason why many Indo/Jamaicans don't practice is because of the nasty Bombay Indians with their nasty caste. My family is Indo/Jamaican in ethnicity but we are 150% JAMAICAN. If yu wan see Hindian enfluense check Rasta. But dem uptown people nah wan deal wit Rasta. Rasta smoke Ganga(Indian word) dem smoke from a Chullum (indian word) 7 points of energy(chakras), meditation, Ital food(vegetarian) all Indian influence even name for shrimp (janga) hindi, even dreads.

  • pt2. If you come ah Jamaica yuh woulda see nuff, nuff, Indian Rasta. We mixup, mixup in Jamaica and we like dat. Jamaican culture powerful and blessed we don't need India. We're JAMAICAN. Take your nasty caste back a India.

  • Comment removed

  • @kwacou smart man i went to india they hate blacks bad spit on me on the train and call me monkey jamaica need to sent the new east indian home

  • @kwacou True!!!!!!! Boom!!!!!! Booooommmmmm!!!!!

  • Caste system is not part of the Hindu philosophy. This was a division of labour that was implemented through Indian society and violates the ultimate principles of Hindu Spiritualism. This is obvious in the Gita itself and it is ignorant to increase divisions and hatred by stating "take your nasty caste back to India". Haven't you learned anything from the Rastafarians as you rightly pointed out have taken many of the essential tenets of Hinduism and applied in their daily life? Love not hatred
