I think this song speaks a lot of truth about the reality of marriage sometimes. Sometimes men just lose the connection and take their wives for granted. Unfortunately this happened in my marriage and sometimes you just gotta accept that you are worth way too much to deal with it & you move on. But it still means so much to me. He did some duo's w/ Dottie West Reba & Dolly. He went on to act in movies
& do TV. Kenny has been in in the lime light for well over 50 yrs. He also never

My comments were for the lady going through a divorce, who still loves her husband, and wasnt' sure about the divorce.
I simply stated a perspective I came to after my divorce when examining what went wrong and what wasn't done right.
Evidently, I've done better as I'm celebrating 20 years today with a wonderful woman who is my best friend and treats me like hers.

This song has changed my perception on what makes a good husband. I thought I was a good husband, paying bills, doing odd jobs around the house and of course, sitting on my arse watching the local game of the week! After hearing this I decided to pay more attention to My wife, helping her around the house and garden, going for walks, talking with her much more and ....I buy her a rose each week on friday to show her how much she means to me. I have never been so happy in My life.

I love this song so much. My ex-husband never got it.... When our marriage was going downhill, I told him that these little things were all that I wanted and needed. He never got it. My new husband is a truck driver (like my ex), and he calls every night just to see how things arre going and to just talk. He also buys me little things while he's out on the road. Thank god for men who get it. It's not the big things that show how much you care.

Kenny Rogers is so powerful. I am 18 and I have always listened to him,
He never bores me nor do I turn of a song he is singing.
I went to Birmingham last June for a birthday present (2010) he was amazing, I met him too! He signed my cowboy hat and I had a photo with him! He is so lovely and he took time out to see his fans!

Not wasted. How many of those years were you both in love and had fun memories together? I'm guessing that part of you still does love him. Doesn't the song say something like, "If only she'd said, 'Buy me a rose. Call me from work...'" I would suggest telling him if he isn't getting the little hints. But most of all I would still love him and "buy him a rose, call him from work". Not necessarily that, but something that would tell him you love him.

i did all those things... i went through breast cancer twice without his support.. anyways.... whatever there may have been, any shred of anything that may have remained.. died when he left and went to Thailand one day... after 25yrs... so... yes those years were wasted... thanx for your kind reply.. :o) x

@ProudRedState Ummm. Yep. That's what i said. Compared to The Coward of the County and his other hits this song is NOTHING. The song is is sooooooo slow and boring. He sings it ok i guess but the husky voice he's known for has vanished never to return. I believe this song was an attempt of his to make a comeback if i remember right. I think it goes without saying that he failed. If you look at country singers like Dolly Parton. She can still sing and write songs as good as she always has today.

@asdfkie Ummmm. It may come as a surprise to you but Kenny Rogers has rarely written any of the songs he has sang so he doesn't deserve much credit for that.. He has had song writers write most of his songs for him over the years. I wouldn't say he makes music. I would say he sings songs mostly. Although he did write Sweet Music Man and that would have to be one of the best songs he's ever sang.
