  • Two people live on Tobacco Road

  • @SatanicScience is that ga.?

  • My mom played this for me at 4 yrs old. I still remember the lyrics "Tobacco Road"

  • shout out to my moms who put me onto Lou Rawls!!

  • another one great classic songs

  • The band playing on this song sounds similar to the one that played on Nancy Wilson's version of Ode to Billie Joe

  • No other voice like Lou Rawls. Never will be. I saw him a month before he passed. He was practacing for an evening concert. I waved to him from across the street, he smiled and waved back. That made my yr. See you later Lou.

  • @srvinfinity another timeless classic from the soul brother.

    big thank's for posting .

  • So many folks are unaware of Lou Rawls rendition of this song. There are countless covers, but none so soulful as this.

  • @m8roth

I agree. So many people have tried to sing this. But when Lou sings it you actually believe that he did grow up there. No one can sing this song like him.

  • great song

  • Great song, but this is actually from 1966 not 63

  • R u still alive?

  • grew up in a nasty shack

  • I will never trust the self-righteous Germans to show such footage about America and its problems without an ulterior motive of trying to make themselves feel better for what they've done. Even as times change and the German state advances environmentally and technologically, it will always be a place with no soul. Vergesst nicht, was Ihr gerichtet habt! Das werde ich jedenfalls nie koennen.

  • @piejrcom The North Americans do the same with Latin America. So Americans should be the last to complain!

  • Bobbie Gentry's version is fab too...

  • That's someplace, but it ain't Tobacco Road.

  • Wer den Text dadrunter gemacht hat, dem oder der würd ich gern einen ausgeben.

  • Allah hu akbar! Fatwas to the infidels!

  • cool tune,,,

  • A favorite of my family!

  • Si te crees que eres un pureta estás jodido

  • This is a good version of Tobacco road.

  • Smooth velvet soul.....my favorite artist as a teenager.

  • wow* amazing Footage + man does that ever reprezent the Struggle of coming from 1963 to Barack Obama in The White House Today!! Only in AMERICA Folks!!******** ;)) Peace*

    OBAMA SEXY TIME!!!

  • Why not just enjoy the music and leave the politics out of it?

  • U may wanna ask Lou Rawls that*

  • Yeah, what does Obama have to do with Lou Rawls?

  • hahahahhah

  • This man is just so smooth he moves from jazz to blues but I think I prefer his blues style.

  • I am pleasantly surprised by this version (is it the original one?). I have always hated Lou Rawls for his fucking awful crooning ("If I Only Had Time", "The Girl From Ipanema"...) but I admit here he rocks. I always thought that the Nashville Teens recorded this first. The early Lou Rawls is probably more interesting that the late one.

  • I agree w/you about the early Lou Rawls. I lost respect for him because of his crooning crap. This version of Tobacco Road is really good. He also did 2 other really great songs "Dead End Street," and "Love is a Hurting Thing" I wish I could find them to upload

  • Check out Dead End Street which i just found. Like this song it is Lou Rawls at his best-not the easy listening crooner he became

  • Danke für den Up ! echt super!

  • What a great clip; a collage of scenes to fit the song. Deutsche subtitles is a blast too. Learning language, and I didn't even "drop out of High School" (formally).

Lou Rawls is a great voice and I'm so glad this was posted.

  • Classic! shame about the hate messages!

  • Heres an idea flatgone. Move out of your moms apartment, find a women, stop the chronic masturbation. Then you won't have to be bitter at those who are still in their prime.lol P.S you would use a cell phone to text, but its obvious you dont have anyone to text too. By the way, does your mom know your using her internet for these purposes? Yours truly GET FUCKED.

  • yo whatzz up I lisen my hole life 2 hiphop and today 4 the frist time I lisen this AND I LIKE IT YEA its the basic know what I mean

  • Maybe you should have listened during your "hole" English class. What High School did you drop out of?

  • Man fack off stupit Im from Holland soo yea I write it a littel bit wrong boo facking hoo

  • You smoke too much weed in Holland. Suck my ass motherfucker.

  • u should calm down, its called msn slang, and also when im typing, especially when im doing it really fast, i sumtimes type the wrong word, and u see how i spelled you, and sometimes....thats the slang spelling for the way its spelled.....so you should calm it

  • thn i gs u shld gt fkd f u cn rd ths. u kn sug muh dig 2 u dm mthrfkr. hw mch $ u mk ls yr n ur jnitr jb swpng up?

  • wow, its hard 2 belive ur 53, im 15, and ive never been cursed out by and old man online....shows how horrible, and how the moral values of our country has dwindled down to nothing....yes i could read the 1st sentence of what u wrote, ut the rest was unreadable. im srry if u got offended all i was saying is that its just slang. its the internet, and you shouldnt be so condeming of it, cuz u dont know his age or if he's just playing around. u really shouldnt be so judge mental!

  • Another 15 year old Einstein. Judgemental is not two words you mallet. Even with your low IQ you may make 18 with any degree of luck. Try to avoid text messaging your friends while driving when you receive your learner's permit. A good percentage of kids your age get their guts mopped up off the highway because they have to constantly be fiddle fucking around with their cell phones. Beware of evolution. The dumb ones really do get weeded out early.

  • wow, i c u really get a high out of trying to make teenagers feel like crap. all the guy was saying is that is whole life he listened to hip hop, and for the 1st time in his life he actually stepped out of his zone and listened to another style of music, and liked it, i would think u (being how you are) would be accepting of sumthing like that.

  • Excellent...

I prefer this version over the original.

    The footage screams the lyrics-

    Thanks for posting.

  • WILD!

  • "all i owned was hangin on my back"...tsss ..speak it brutha..this man is beyond awesome

  • beautiful and heart tugging and just grate to get into

  • I like this one ! Five stars without hesitation for Lou Rawls and his beautiful voice.

  • Awesome!!! Never heard this before by Lou Rawls, thanks for posting.

  • same here...i've always heard the Nashville Teens version which is so much faster than this.

  • Wow! The best vesion of this John Louderback tune.

  • Sorry phillydog, you obviously have never heard The Twisters' version. I taped them doing it 2 days ago at their final concert ever. I'll post it in a few weeks after it's edited. Michael Wainwright has a much better voice than Lou Rawls!

  • Sheldon, Thanks for the tip on The Twisters version.

I don't remember posting this comment on Lou Rawl's version. I think that my favorite version of Tobbacco Road was done by Loudermilk himself.

  • sooo deep!!

  • Lou we miss you much. Thanx for all the great music and memories!

  • I meant 1966.

  • If all you ever heard by Lou was stuff like "You are gonna miss my love" I can understand not liking Lou. But If you check his pre commercial work you find classics like St James Infirmary and Street Corner Hustlers Blues, among others. Try to find his live recording from around 1866 and you'll see what I mean.

  • even i didn t like much of his songs

this is best tobacco road r.i.p.

  • Grew up with it. Live it, breath it!

  • This is my shit,R.I.P.
