...what was black's last move? Not with any of the queens. Nor either of the black pawns. Nor could the black King have just moved, as it would have been in check by the unmoved white g2 pawn. Curious. Also, Black must have started the game with 55 pawns, promoting each to a queen.

@TheGabrielwest Actually, you're wrong. There are a lot of solutions with 57 or even 58 Queens. One with 57 was given by l2pokfe below. There exist also solutions with 58 Queens where white has only King and pawn and in either solution he promotes the pawn into Q, R, B or N.

PS: If you add a 65th square Black can have even 60 Queens.
