@Glamausaurs You actually need to use your back muscles by your spine to push the upper torso forward (but don't clench your shoulders). This is where the posture where she said to keep the pelvis tucked is very important. You never want your butt sticking out like a duck. You should pivot your pelvis, so it's almost like your trying to tuck your butt under yourself. It will feel awkward, but it's correct and you need this posture to dance correctly.

Also, a good bellyroll is done without moving the spine and chest at all. Wich is hard when rolling, but not so hard when you're just pulling in and out one part of your belly.

i find belly rolls ridiculously DIFFICULT, lol!! If i think about moving the air from the bottom of my belly to the top and back again, all i get is dizzy by doing it Yasmin's way. This gorgeous woman makes it look like the most NATURAL thing in the world... Guess i need to find a local teacher because i am not learning enough from videos. :(
guys, belly dancing moves are something that can take years of practice to master... so don't be so hard on yourselves. Some people catch on quickly... some don't. If you keep practicing, you WILL get it.
@HeatherBice thanks for your inspiring words...my instructor goes too fast and in a group of 10 it is rather difficult . video like this is good it is like a personal tutor.
i almost want to give up but since i have been telling myself that i just want to have fun i dont feel so bad.
@tropicalgirl74 I would suggest shopping around for your instructor - find one that fits your learning needs. Someone who can explain the moves, and slow it down for you so you see and feel exactly what you are doing. Belly dancing is all about muscle control. If you instructor doesn't recognize that and use that understanding to teach you, then you are better off with a new one. :) Just don't give up and have fun with it!
