Catholics say there are such things as Venial sins, these they say will not send a person to Hell, can you give me an example of a Venial sin, which does not fall under the 10 Commandments.

Why is there never a mention within Catholicism of the purging of the temporal punishment due to mortal sin? ~ at what point in an RCs life is the temporal punishment for mortal sin purged? & how is this effected?
