say what you want about steroids, but Sosa and McGwire saved baseball, after labor disputes, and general disinterest threatened to kill the game, the epic home run chase those two put on drew people back to the stadiums. and as always, the cardinals beat the cubs.
Well, St. Louis is the 3rd smallest baseball city in MLB and they rank in the top 5 to 10 in attendance every year. Last year they outdrew the Cubs, Red Sox, and Giants in attendance( all of whose cities' have much greater populations than St. Louis) If you ever get a chance to see a game in St. Louis do it. It's amazing. I'm a Mets fan but have been to St. Louis 4 times and it's just an awesome place to watch a game.
I drove my son, who was 8, from Kansas City that morning and back home from St Louis late that night. I bought tickets from a broker several days before hoping McGwire would be going for #62 that game, but I think he didn't get any the game before so we settled for tying the record.
i remember that game, my parents took me i was 5 and half, to get in my dad carried me i scrunched up in his arms and pretended to be 3 so i could get in for free and bc it was sold out. Yes he did steroids which was wrong but he provided memoires for thousands of people
i was pumped when he did this,, i grew up as a lil leaguer when he was in his early days with the a's.. im a redsox fan but i loved the bash brothers till they swept us in 1990, lol, but man,, hes so BIG here,, so not the same guy who hit 40 + in his second year.... so obvious, haha,,, still love BIG MAC! way better than that bonds douchebag but not even close to ken griffey jr
