  • Been in my library since what the early 70's..the original print at that time..a Rebel without a cause..Love the style of Putting the point across. Love it TY <3

  • actor is cute

  • @BiodegradableHumans That pretty much describes Igby Goes Down.

  • what movie is that?????

  • Oh snap ur right goran

  • Im reading a book on dis

  • whats so emo about this movie??? i dont get it... :/

    mhh....

  • i thought it was the specials in the intro

  • Everyone should read Catcher. It's the book at the library by JD Salinger and it has a red and white cover with a drawing of a mule with a spear stuck in his neck.

  • this the book that killed John Lennon

  • Every time I'd read this novel, I'd picture Harold Chasen (Bud Cort) from Harold & Maude as Holden.

  • Yeah The Catcher in the Rye isn't that great to be honest. It's basically just a teenager who's ignorant and blows so many oppunities at a rich private school because he has wealthy parents which spoil him and he judges everyone and thinks he's superior and has a better personality than everyone he runs into. The book focuses about a girl he's interested [Jane] but he never even meets up with her. He spends 4 days getting drunk, going to clubs / bars, wasting time. And thinks about running away.

  • Red hunting hat at least...

  • this is a movie about that book?? i loove this book and heyy please pleasee help me and give me the link of this moviee.... pleaseeee soo much

  • this is a movie about that book?? i loove this book and heyy please pleasee help me and give me the link of this moviee.... pleaseeee soo much

  • Nice job. And i think Elliott Smith would be great to play in a movie about this novel. And would like to see a movie about it, just you know.. a little production, people who care about the art and the message of this book.

  • Damn you Maurice!!!

  • WTF, not the same story line. Not in the same date, nothing like the book

  • The catcher in the rye should never be turned into a movie, the books great on its own, and thats the way it should be enjoyed the way J.D. Salinger wanted it. although there is a movie called Chasing Holden which is about this kid trying to contact J.D. Salinger after he reads Catcher in the Rye

  • bullshit this is a murder.....sad,this is very sad

this asshol is not Holden Caulfield

    HOLDEN CAULFIELD FOREVER

  • I think this guy could actually play Holden...

  • the first time i saw igby goes down i knew right away it was kinda based on the catcher in the rye, but what i loved in the movie is that they didnt copy it, one by one, the general idea is like holden. FUCKIN' LOVE THIS MOVIE.

  • this had nothing to do with the book at all

  • greatest book ever. If it were a movie, i'm sure it would haver been a flop. Holden Caulfield- best book character

  • greatest book ever. If it were a movie, i'm sure it would haver been a flop. Holden Caufield=best book character ever.

  • i really don't like holden's face! I really don't imagine him like that

  • Uh, as a high school English teacher, I am inclined to say that if you are going to violate the author's copyright, you should at least stick to the story as much as possible. Holden was pre-maturely gray and was tall and lanky - too much artistic license, boys. Heads up.

  • All the sunavubitches in that goddam book are so dam phony and corny!! can't believe it costs about $1000 apiece.

  • one of the worst books i have read

  • must kill John Lennon.

  • Just for the record, it will be made into a movie. The author will never allow it.

  • the man who killed john lennon , killed him because he read this book . we learned that in english .

  • @eskarlata2010 agree with you 100%

  • This killed me. It really did.

  • great vid

  • if ever the rights were sold and they were to make a movie out of it i would love to see Aaron Johnson play Holden. but Hollywood would probably ruin the book anyways.

  • Haha, making a movie out of Catcher in the Rye would be just wrong, so, so wrong. Holden would not condone it.

  • the book will never be a movie becase the author decided not to since the character holden caulfield felt real to him and thought that movies was bullshit..

  • did you read the book or the wikipedia description?

  • what is the song at 0:45?

  • Es un libro ke cuando lo empeze a leer no lo solté asta terminarlo me gustaría ver la peli , completa

  • henrymakow (dotcom)

  • 1:51

  • i dont remember holden going to california

  • i have no patience for phonies! lawl

  • After I finished Cather in The rye, I wanted to kill myself, because that book affected on me much

  • After I finished Cather in The rye, I wanted to kill myself, because that book affected on me much

  • its good, but the music is all wrong.

  • This song is NOT Needle in the Hay!

It's Bohemian like you by the Dandy Warhols

  • This song is NOT Needle in the Hay!

It's Bohemian like you by the Dandy Warhols

  • ......... nothing whatsoever like the book wtf?

  • ......... nothing whatsoever like the book wtf?

  • hey cuando salio esta peli ??

  • I never knew books could be controversial. Haha, this world..

  • I never knew books could be controversial. Haha, this world..

  • they are gonna make a movie... later cause j.d said to make one after he died or something.!

    i hope they make it.!!

  • ..Must kill john lennon..

  • name of song please? Great book btw just finished reading it today and i really loved it. Went in to wikipedia and found out that old JD died this year, sunofabitch.

  • this book is tirroble

  • This movie is as true to the spirit of Catcher in the Rye as Judas Iscariot was to Jesus. Thumbs down.

  • i want to go to California , i need a fucking sunny day

    too

  • which is the second song?

  • where can i get the book and what is it about? heard a review on NME but didn't really follow the line up, can some one help me out?

  • too bad this is nothing like the book. in the book he gets kicked out of school and goes to new york to kill some time before chirstmas break so his parents wont find out he got kicked out.

  • So by the comments ive read so far - this film is based on the book right? Is it worth watching then? Still.. im thinking to both read the book and see the movie because i think i can relate to Holden in many ways but i want to know if the movie is worth watching and is it going to ruin the book for me or not

  • ha ha this is dreadful! and macaulay culkin as holden caulfield? hilarious. A big two fingers up to the pretentious idiots commenting here with their crap like "J. D. Salinger is my second favorite author, after Nietzche"... phoneys and people that use words like "grand" and pat kids on the head while they sleep i believe these assholes would be viewed as if they were characters in the book. Never will be a movie, closest movie that will approximate the Cather in the Rye is "into the wild"

  • lol this aint catcher in the rye......there is no catcher in the rye movie yet.....becuz whille J.D Salinger was still alive he refused to sell film rights....as he thought the novel should just stay a novel.....he did have good point.....but i still want a movie made about it ...stupid hollywood has f**** my mind lol

  • i want a catcher movie also...damn salinger

  • totaly agree, you can see that in the film industry made on the book

  • @Goran767 well they actually now made a movie called catcher in the rye but it isnt made in the united states if u u dont believe go check and see

  • @Goran767 Now what will happen since he's dead?

  • @Goran767 I think that if they made a movie, it should be so fricken "hollywoodised" i know it isn't a word but ya know :P This is my most favourite book in the whole wide world... i would like to see a movie aswell though :P just as long as they don't put loadsa famous people in it, it would be good as a modest film with new and good actors in it :D

  • @Goran767 he died this year

  • @Goran767 well JD Silinger is dead now..

  • It's really too bad that so much crumby stuff is a lot of fun sometimes.

  • the catcher in the rye is classic, salinger is great.

my favorite is Joyce Maynard though

  • music is inapropriate

  • has the film Igby Goes Down something in common with the book the catcher in the rye?

  • This has no relevence to the book at all !.. Except that Holden ran off from school and then went to New York.. Where he lived.. He didn't run away.. You show many scenes of pills.. Holden never took pills.. There was no reference to Allie, or Pheobe. The book explained his mental breakdown, this shows some boy running away and becoming homeless.. If you read the book the beginning is written in such a way that the whole story is a flashback to a bad time...It refers to him gettin help. You Fail

  • this is weird cuz he died today

  • I have that problem but a little different. I want to write a great book and I know some actors who would be great for it if it became a move. But the actors younger versions are what i want.

  • Since most people here don't get understand what's going on....

    1) Read the video description, it's a comparison.

    2) this movie was based of Catcher in the Rye.

    3) The Catcher in the Rye will never become a movie, read the book again if you don't know why.

  • @redsweaterkid for number 3) , is it because it's too out of date that it would be hard to remake it again in a more modern NYC?

  • video Cliffs Notes.

  • i love the harry potter scarf!

  • Classic book.

  • Crap.

  • Nothing compares the book......... a jewel!

  • kupila sam danas ovu knjigu danasi jedva cekam da pocnem da je citam!!!

  • J.D.Salinger is my second favorite author, Friedrich Nietzche is my favorite

  • why Nietzche?

  • please , could you tell me, where I cen see that moviee... I'm dying to watch that movie.. n alsoo I wanna see RICH MAN POOR MAN mini series, but I couldn't find them anywhere...

  • @mbolkvadze it's not a movie.

  • if youve never seen this movie this is fucking stupid it has noting to do with the catcher in the rye. do some research like reading the book read the book

  • this movie ruins Holden Caulfield for me, whom i love

  • ok holden doesnt "GO" TO new york city he lives there and hes school is just somewhere on the outskirt of new york so basically he just went back to new york...

  • The book is great

  • does this movie really excist?

  • I read the book in 2 days, I'm so proud of my self :)

  • @pieceofparadox read it in a couple of hours :)

  • Elliott smith goes great with this!

  • this is NOT the catcher in the rye

  • has anyone heard the song catcher in the rye by gnr

  • My favourite book...

  • Holden Caulfield lives.

  • why did jeff goldblum jus beat the shit outta him

  • what's the name of the actor?

  • i read this boom and i thought it was AMAZING!!!

  • this was real good

  • they made him short here, he was 6'2 in the book which as he believed got him away with doing adult stuff

  • this is one of my fav. boook.... i just love it so much :)

  • credits song: "the heart of life" by john mayer

  • i bet most you guys can't read this in school. i lol cause i can

  • great idea man, love the music as well

  • It's great!

  • This has nothing to do with Salinger's Holden, or Salinger's novel about Holden. At least for me. Read books!

  • this kind of book is not for filming, in fact - how can you make all that internal stuff? It'll suck anyway

  • when we did this book I recomended this movie to my teacher. its one of my favorite movies and catcher in the rye is one of my fav books.

  • Did you even read the book? Holden is not an abused child nor has he ever taken pills. Before creating a video about a book, especially a classic such as this, please be aware of how ridiculous it looks when you're wrong. This was not a video about Catcher in the Rye. it was terrible.

  • This is not catcher in the rye. Holden was not abused nor did he take pills. If you are going to do a video for English class, please stay true to the text. This is a wonderful novel, don't ruin it.

  • This is not catcher in the rye. Holden is not a beaten child nor does he take pills. this is a misrepresentation of the text. If you're going to make a video for English class, please stay true to the story line.

  • J.D. Salinger is my favorite author.

  • your funny

  • i go to school with his grandson.

  • This book is about a rite of passage, which the hero does not survive. That's the reason for the red hunting hat worn backwards, the crazy cannon, and the crazy clift he tries to keep kids from falling off of,then they are coming through the rye field.

  • questo montaggio fa schifo.

  • where can i find this movie onlineee???

  • catcher in the Rye? its not a real movie.

  • i hated clair danes in this i didnt like how she hurt igby and went from one brother to the next

  • @angelgurl009 Clair Danes didn't hurt anyone you dumb fuck. She was playing a character. Can't you tell the difference between reality and fiction?

  • So, what you're saying is that Igby Goes Down is basically the Director's attempt at making a film version of Catcher in the Rye, but without calling it the Catcher in the Rye, so that Salinger doesn't sue?

That's the impression I got from watching this video...

  • probably not, but there are definitely some very strong Salinger influences in this movie.

  • I watched this movie a few years ago and thought Igby was a totally self-obsessed brat and then my life kind of took a turn with dropping out of school and all my friends and relatives getting pissed and losing faith in me and I watched it again and it reminded me of exactly what I went through. Funny how things change.

  • this is igby goes down

  • dude, I read the book, and that never happens!!!

  • well done mate. keep going w/making the movie.

  • I wish they would make a movie about this book.

  • JD Salinger has said he'll only sell the rights if hes sure they'll do it right

  • That would never happen. They made a movie of one of his short stories once and it stunk. That's why he hates the movies so much.

  • ironically, i recently told a friend of mine that his favorite movie, which is igby goes down, reminds me a lot of catcher. he didn't believe me, now this just proves my point

  • if i really have a godson like igby i really do what goldblum does here

  • what?

  • Get real. -Nijiko

  • I read this book and I hated it as I read it, but in the end, I actually liked it; it is now one of my favorite books.

  • this videos nothing but a stupid dumb phoney.

  • Um..I think the person is just saying that this movie is very similar to the book itself..jeez..

  • I think check was making a reference to the novel. "stupid dumb phony". Sounds like Caulfield's specific style of dialog. ;) Or maybe I'm overestimating him.

  • hmmmm

  • What song playing in the background at the beginning?

  • "Bohemian like you" by, I believe, the dandy warhols. But I coould be very wrong about the band.

  • "Bohemian like you", by the Dandy warhols...probably there only good song.

  • "their"

  • lol gold star for you ;)

  • "Bohemian Like You" by The Dandy Warhols.

  • igby goes down is the best movie made by a culkin

  • They have been trying to make a movie of "The Catcher in the Rye" ever since it came out in the 1950's.The author has turned down all movie offers,he is a recluse who dosen't need the money, the book has sold millions of copies.

In the future when the author dies, his kids will sell the movie rights, the author is a senior citizen, the movie is comming soon.

  • Yeah, but it's also more than just that he doesnt need the money..I mean, they could never make a movie that could accurately recreate the book, it would definitely lose some, if not all, of its meaning. It's just such a great book.

  • HOW I WANT TO DIE...the Dark Disturbing Video from Mysterious CATMAN COHEN

    "I'll take a bullet from a gun

A knife wound in my chest

That's how I want to die

Just like a Catcher in the Rye."

  • that was brill!

    Loved it xD

  • so wait is there really a movie coming out for the book?

  • i can really relate to holden. ironicly i read this book in in-school suspension. i love scotch and soda and smoking cigs.the only thing we dont have in common is a mixed style(Tight Emo pants and holister shirts.)

  • u just saved my grade.. nice

  • this is really well done! im looking where to find the full movie!

  • it was never made into a movie

  • you saved my life! Im doing this book for my GCSE english exam.. now I can finally understand :D woo

  • ok I AM PROBABLY THE BIGGEST FAN OF ELLIOTT SMITH THAT EVER LIVED!!!!!! HELL YEA ON USING "NEEDLE IN THE HAY" well i hear when jd salinger dies there will be alot of books to read and then most likely his family will sell the story to the entertainment industry since they will have the royalities. so once he passes we will have allot more of great amazing books and catcher in the rye the movie!!

  • oh no..i'm definitely NOT looking forward to that (movies) it always sort of destroyes the greatness of a book when it's filmed...just look at harry potter...

  • I've read The Catcher in the Rye but I've heard Salinger's other books aren't very good. Could anyone help me out and tell me their favorite J.D. Salinger books beside's The Catcher in the Rye? Thanks alot!

  • he only wrote one novel but there's books with short stories that he wrote.

  • Two novels. Catcher in the Rye and Franny and Zooey

  • Franney and Zooey is my favorite.I liked it more than Catcher in the Rye.

  • i know i'll be bashed for this, but, how would you pronounce Salinger's name? is it sa-ling-er or sa-lin-ger?

  • Yes. very good.

  • Wtf is with the music choice?! That is not the mood of the book.. AT ALL!

  • The song's from the film.

  • Its The Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like You.

    I agree completely with you.

  • interesting. Very similar to "catcher."

  • what is the name of that first song... its pretty sick

  • bohemian like you by the dandy warhols

  • the only problem is that holden isn't a pill popper

  • Yeah, your right. He is supposed to be more like a smoker, a puffing fiend.

  • this genre is amazing yet i feel it relates to those rich teenage children who have realize the way of wealth is not thier way. I cant condemn this as i myself am a prep school grad who found himself out west. If you like this genre you might like the sun also rises hemingway or on the road i think keroac its a great cmpliment to this as it takes place in an older age but compliments teenage life
