Been in my library since what the early 70's..the original print at that time..a Rebel without a cause..Love the style of Putting the point across. Love it TY <3
Everyone should read Catcher. It's the book at the library by JD Salinger and it has a red and white cover with a drawing of a mule with a spear stuck in his neck.
Yeah The Catcher in the Rye isn't that great to be honest. It's basically just a teenager who's ignorant and blows so many oppunities at a rich private school because he has wealthy parents which spoil him and he judges everyone and thinks he's superior and has a better personality than everyone he runs into. The book focuses about a girl he's interested [Jane] but he never even meets up with her. He spends 4 days getting drunk, going to clubs / bars, wasting time. And thinks about running away.
Nice job. And i think Elliott Smith would be great to play in a movie about this novel. And would like to see a movie about it, just you know.. a little production, people who care about the art and the message of this book.
The catcher in the rye should never be turned into a movie, the books great on its own, and thats the way it should be enjoyed the way J.D. Salinger wanted it. although there is a movie called Chasing Holden which is about this kid trying to contact J.D. Salinger after he reads Catcher in the Rye
the first time i saw igby goes down i knew right away it was kinda based on the catcher in the rye, but what i loved in the movie is that they didnt copy it, one by one, the general idea is like holden. FUCKIN' LOVE THIS MOVIE.
Uh, as a high school English teacher, I am inclined to say that if you are going to violate the author's copyright, you should at least stick to the story as much as possible. Holden was pre-maturely gray and was tall and lanky - too much artistic license, boys. Heads up.
if ever the rights were sold and they were to make a movie out of it i would love to see Aaron Johnson play Holden. but Hollywood would probably ruin the book anyways.
the book will never be a movie becase the author decided not to since the character holden caulfield felt real to him and thought that movies was bullshit..
name of song please? Great book btw just finished reading it today and i really loved it. Went in to wikipedia and found out that old JD died this year, sunofabitch.
too bad this is nothing like the book. in the book he gets kicked out of school and goes to new york to kill some time before chirstmas break so his parents wont find out he got kicked out.
So by the comments ive read so far - this film is based on the book right? Is it worth watching then? Still.. im thinking to both read the book and see the movie because i think i can relate to Holden in many ways but i want to know if the movie is worth watching and is it going to ruin the book for me or not
ha ha this is dreadful! and macaulay culkin as holden caulfield? hilarious. A big two fingers up to the pretentious idiots commenting here with their crap like "J. D. Salinger is my second favorite author, after Nietzche"... phoneys and people that use words like "grand" and pat kids on the head while they sleep i believe these assholes would be viewed as if they were characters in the book. Never will be a movie, closest movie that will approximate the Cather in the Rye is "into the wild"
lol this aint catcher in the rye......there is no catcher in the rye movie yet.....becuz whille J.D Salinger was still alive he refused to sell film rights....as he thought the novel should just stay a novel.....he did have good point.....but i still want a movie made about it ...stupid hollywood has f**** my mind lol
@Goran767 I think that if they made a movie, it should be so fricken "hollywoodised" i know it isn't a word but ya know :P This is my most favourite book in the whole wide world... i would like to see a movie aswell though :P just as long as they don't put loadsa famous people in it, it would be good as a modest film with new and good actors in it :D
This has no relevence to the book at all !.. Except that Holden ran off from school and then went to New York.. Where he lived.. He didn't run away.. You show many scenes of pills.. Holden never took pills.. There was no reference to Allie, or Pheobe. The book explained his mental breakdown, this shows some boy running away and becoming homeless.. If you read the book the beginning is written in such a way that the whole story is a flashback to a bad time...It refers to him gettin help. You Fail
I have that problem but a little different. I want to write a great book and I know some actors who would be great for it if it became a move. But the actors younger versions are what i want.
please , could you tell me, where I cen see that moviee... I'm dying to watch that movie.. n alsoo I wanna see RICH MAN POOR MAN mini series, but I couldn't find them anywhere...
if youve never seen this movie this is fucking stupid it has noting to do with the catcher in the rye. do some research like reading the book read the book
ok holden doesnt "GO" TO new york city he lives there and hes school is just somewhere on the outskirt of new york so basically he just went back to new york...
Did you even read the book? Holden is not an abused child nor has he ever taken pills. Before creating a video about a book, especially a classic such as this, please be aware of how ridiculous it looks when you're wrong. This was not a video about Catcher in the Rye. it was terrible.
This is not catcher in the rye. Holden was not abused nor did he take pills. If you are going to do a video for English class, please stay true to the text. This is a wonderful novel, don't ruin it.
This is not catcher in the rye. Holden is not a beaten child nor does he take pills. this is a misrepresentation of the text. If you're going to make a video for English class, please stay true to the story line.
This book is about a rite of passage, which the hero does not survive. That's the reason for the red hunting hat worn backwards, the crazy cannon, and the crazy clift he tries to keep kids from falling off of,then they are coming through the rye field.
So, what you're saying is that Igby Goes Down is basically the Director's attempt at making a film version of Catcher in the Rye, but without calling it the Catcher in the Rye, so that Salinger doesn't sue?
That's the impression I got from watching this video...
I watched this movie a few years ago and thought Igby was a totally self-obsessed brat and then my life kind of took a turn with dropping out of school and all my friends and relatives getting pissed and losing faith in me and I watched it again and it reminded me of exactly what I went through. Funny how things change.
ironically, i recently told a friend of mine that his favorite movie, which is igby goes down, reminds me a lot of catcher. he didn't believe me, now this just proves my point
I think check was making a reference to the novel. "stupid dumb phony". Sounds like Caulfield's specific style of dialog. ;) Or maybe I'm overestimating him.
They have been trying to make a movie of "The Catcher in the Rye" ever since it came out in the 1950's.The author has turned down all movie offers,he is a recluse who dosen't need the money, the book has sold millions of copies.
In the future when the author dies, his kids will sell the movie rights, the author is a senior citizen, the movie is comming soon.
Yeah, but it's also more than just that he doesnt need the money..I mean, they could never make a movie that could accurately recreate the book, it would definitely lose some, if not all, of its meaning. It's just such a great book.
i can really relate to holden. ironicly i read this book in in-school suspension. i love scotch and soda and smoking cigs.the only thing we dont have in common is a mixed style(Tight Emo pants and holister shirts.)
ok I AM PROBABLY THE BIGGEST FAN OF ELLIOTT SMITH THAT EVER LIVED!!!!!! HELL YEA ON USING "NEEDLE IN THE HAY" well i hear when jd salinger dies there will be alot of books to read and then most likely his family will sell the story to the entertainment industry since they will have the royalities. so once he passes we will have allot more of great amazing books and catcher in the rye the movie!!
oh no..i'm definitely NOT looking forward to that (movies) it always sort of destroyes the greatness of a book when it's filmed...just look at harry potter...
I've read The Catcher in the Rye but I've heard Salinger's other books aren't very good. Could anyone help me out and tell me their favorite J.D. Salinger books beside's The Catcher in the Rye? Thanks alot!
this genre is amazing yet i feel it relates to those rich teenage children who have realize the way of wealth is not thier way. I cant condemn this as i myself am a prep school grad who found himself out west. If you like this genre you might like the sun also rises hemingway or on the road i think keroac its a great cmpliment to this as it takes place in an older age but compliments teenage life

ok I AM PROBABLY THE BIGGEST FAN OF ELLIOTT SMITH THAT EVER LIVED!!!!!! HELL YEA ON USING "NEEDLE IN THE HAY" well i hear when jd salinger dies there will be alot of books to read and then most likely his family will sell the story to the entertainment industry since they will have the royalities. so once he passes we will have allot more of great amazing books and catcher in the rye the movie!!

this genre is amazing yet i feel it relates to those rich teenage children who have realize the way of wealth is not thier way. I cant condemn this as i myself am a prep school grad who found himself out west. If you like this genre you might like the sun also rises hemingway or on the road i think keroac its a great cmpliment to this as it takes place in an older age but compliments teenage life
