You just lack the perceptive qualities to appreciate the music. In my opinion they are one of the best bands of all time. I don't think it's bad or innovating. He was a passionate writer and a passionate musician in general. Passion often comes across as sloppy and bad by people who only understand pretty music.

I, for one, love beautiful musical and talented singers. I can't stand hipster bands that are only good because they're obscure and different sounding. However, if they're sloppy AND passionate, I like them even more than the ones with pretty music.
