I agree that Epica and Evanescence are both very different bands and shouldn't be compared. I do love both of them, although I admit that Epica is more complex and progressive in their music. Evanescence is commercial in the sense that they are more popular, and their hit singles are more commercialized, but when you listen to the rest of their music it is much deeper then the average commercial band.

I Agree with Simone is saying that Evanescense is a Pop-Rock band. Evanescence isn't in the same catagory as Symphonic Metal. The differect between Epica and Evanescense is like a differece between Jessie McCartney and As I Lay Dying, Evanescence being on the Jessie McCartney side.
